Red Robin - #1



Synopsis: In Spain, bad guys have kidnapped the daughter of an outspoken Spanish politician. They get their ransom demand but have no intention of returning the daughter. :o Red Robin follows them to their hideout and beats everybody up except for a guy with flamey hands who punches him. Red Robin catches the punch and headbutts him and escapes with the girl :o

In his apartment, Red Robin, who is Tim Wayne, takes off his costume and holds his burnt hand under cold water wondering how his life got to this point.

The next day he motorcycles around showing off a picture to ppl, asking if they have seen somebody but they haven't. He insists he knows he's "right" about something.

Flashback time! Tim is yelling at Nightwing who is now Batman, in the batcave. Dick says that Damien is his responsibility and it's his job to take care of him or he'll become a killer. Damien who is now Robin shows up and mocks Tim and refuses to acknowledge his last name as being Wayne. Tim punches Damien and stalks off.

In Prague, somebody kills a businessman who was trying to blackmail the wrong people. But then he himself is killed by a mysterious person who cuts him in half or something :O

We're now in Paris where Red Robin is racing along in his Robincycle being chased by gangsters in a car shooting at him. He jumps on the car and causes it to flip :O

Flashback again to mopey Tim after his fight with Dick and Damien. He mopes until he realizes that Batman is still alive and he will find him.

Back in the present, half naked Tim is being spied on by a bald girl and her compatriots who call somebody and tells them that they've found Tim.

Review: Blah. That's.. like my review. xD The entire thing just made me feel blah.. or meh.. like.. w/e... I dunno.. it's more mopey Tim and I HATE mopey Tim... esp the wannabe Miller monologues. I'm so tired of it. I'm so tired of the running narration of a superhero's actions. It's like sports commentators in North America, they just can't stop talking.. xD But more than that it's just.. I dunno.. not even creative monologuing.. it's like they ran his thoughts thru a batmonologue computer or something. xD

Neways... I haven't rly been following Battle for the Cowl much, so maybe I just missed stuff, but why IS Tim not Robin or given ANY sort of other role by Bat!Dick? Like, Dick says it's cuz they're equals or something, but I thought Dick and Tim were always close, like brothers... why would he just be like... shrugging him aside. Yeah he wants to take care of Damien (why is he taking care of Damien btw? o_O I know Zhinxy has a theory that Talia's going to be revealed to have died, so maybe that's it? ) but if Tim is having issues too, wouldn't it be important to try to include him more also, or try harder to work things out? It seems like Dick doesn't even rly care what's going on, esp with his surrogate little brother.. and that's... I dunno... it just seems like he's being rly blase about Tim having clear emotional issues >.>;;

So is Tim killing now or just being rly rough? :o Is that the line he's crossing? o_O I know he flipped the car but in comics, that's hardly any inference to killing xD Maybe it's just that he doesn't care how rough he is anymore or if it leads to death?

*shrug* I dunno, as I said, I just feel blah about it so it's like "oh well car flipped.." xD And Ra's is back! Oh yay >.>;; I guess he'll finally have his apprentice or w/e? Maybe we'll find out if Zhinxy was right about Talia :]

Um.. I guess that's it. I just feel like... a lot happened but at the same time nothing rly happened. It just felt like background noise as Tim brooded and brooded more xD

Oh and apparently we dun have Red Robins in Ontario xD Just FYI >.>;; Or I would ttlly go to one every week that Red Robin came out and read it there xD And ppl would stare >.>;;; XDDD Maybe I should go to Timothy's or Tim Horton's to read it though :O

Recommendation: Unless you rly like current Tim Drake or are into what happens to every single Bat family char during this Batman: Reborn period, I dun recommend this issue at all :\

Green Lantern Corps - #37

Green Lantern Corps - #37



Synopsis: Inside the red sun of Daxam, Sodom Yat uses his Ion power to turn it yellow :O Mongol watches while being told by his minions that the Daxamites are now super powerful.

On Daxam, the Daxamites who were with Sodom and Arisia are going out of control with their new powers and Arisia has to encase them in bubbles. Sodom's father tells her that they need to take their revenge on the Yellow Lanterns but she says they have to be patient and train first and then they will retake the planet! :D

In space, inside the boot of the Anti-Monitor (xD), Ash, the vampire slaying Green Lantern, is slaying vampires when Saarek, the GL who speaks to dead ppl, shows up. :O Saarek tells Ash that Ash's wife does not want him running around killing vampires to avenge her death and wants him to stop. Ash tells Saarek to shut up and doesn't believe he's actually talking to his wife. :o They then ask what the other is here for and discover that they both have been sent by the sekritly!ebil!Guardian to find the Anti-Monitor's corpse :O Saarek senses the dead calling from a black desolate place and they go off together...

On Oa, the sciencell riot rages on as GLs try to contain the rampaging Yellow and Red Lanterns :O Guy Gardner is saved from a YL by a RL carrying a giant axe. He then saves the RL from a YL. RL, in Klingon like fashion, declares that he still hates Guy and will kill him later. xD

Kyle Rayner convinces Kanjar Ro to help the GL contain the riot in exchange for Kyle asking for leniency on Kanjar's sentence from the Guardians. :]

In the chaos the Sinestro Corps Bookkeeping Girl gets her ring to find the book of the Sinestro Corps. :o It leads her into Oa where she finds the Big Black Book Of Evil Doom :O She starts to read it but then sekritly!ebil!Guardian shows up behind her and shoves her INSIDE one of the pages, trapping her... :O

Back outside, the GL recruits demand to be allowed to fight in the riot and with their collective willpower are able to break through the bubble encasing them and they rush in only to be met by bloodthirsty Sinestro Corps members! :O Before the YLs can do nething tho, they are killed by the Alpha Lanterns who have shown up! O_O;;

They instruct all the GLs to initiate Phalanx Directive which apparently is to encase all the escapees in a giant green shell xD

Inside Oa, sekritly!ebil!Guardian says it's time and the door needs to be open :o Black stuff flows out of her and the giant Lantern thingie that encases Oa starts to crack and explode! :OOOOO

Review: That sounded pretty silly actually now that I've wrote it out. xD But it's pretty fun and I think they did a rly good job with the riot and making it look rly chaotic and action packed! :D Plus I ALWAYS love it when bad guys help good guys in these situations xD Esp with Klingon Red Lantern guy xD I just have such a soft spot for those types of chars >.>;;;

I'm confused about what happened to bookkeeping girl tho :o She got put in the book... I didn't know ppl could do that.. is she dead now or just trapped or like.. coming back as a Black Lantern? o_O;; I guess we'll see! I kinda WANT to like her, I guess cuz she kept being pushed as a fairly major char in the SC War plot, but we never actually did rly find out much about her, but I find her intriguing so I hope she returns :) I guess I kinda want to like her... or.. hate her.. or whatever it is I'm supposed to feel for villains... XD

I rly enjoyed the story tho, and I think part of that is cuz they showed so little of the Daxam plot and so much of what's going on in Oa :D I dunno, I just find Sodom and Arisia boring in general, or at least I'm not interested in their chars as much as I am with like Guy or Kyle or even vampire hunting guy and dead speaking man >.>;; Plus I just found the whole Daxam plotline kinda blah :\ I guess cuz of everything else going on with Blackest Night and the scarred Guardian and all the build up, that it just seems like Sodom and Arisia vs Mongol for the fate of Daxam is like the European Title match on a Royal Rumble card or something (I might be dating myself, does the ET even exist nemore? XD) But it's just like, it doesn't feel like it rly matters... or that it's just kinda filler until Sinestro shows up and tosses Mongol into a black hole xD (I dun find kid Mongol intriguing either >.>)

On the flipside, I did rly enjoy the interaction between Ash and Saarek (tho I would have enjoyed it more if it was Pokemon Ash and Spock's dad XD and an extra A floating around >.>;;; ) XD We haven't rly gotten to know these two chars very well since they were introduced.. at least *I* haven't, I have no idea if they had a ton of characterization before I got into comics xD and it was rly nice to have a quiet moment (esp in between all the chaos on Daxam and on Oa) to have these two chars talk a bit and get some nice character moments. :] I like that they are both kinda loners but are now going to be journeying together on the same quest :D I can't wait to see more of them :)

And yus, the ending was nifty... like, yeah it's the generic kinda cliffhanger, and I dun rly know the significance of the giant outer shell of Oa cracking apart, but I still can't wait to find out what happens b/c I know this is Blackest Night finally starting and even tho yeah, it's another super mega crossover, at least I understand what's going on and it's silly but fun in a summer blockbuster kinda way (which I think it was basically advertised as one) so I can't wait for the funness chaos! :D At least I hope that's what's coming xD After Final Crisis I could use some simple fun action in my Super Mega Crossovers :D

Um... yus.. so that's it I guess... yay! :] As I said, it's a bit silly when I actually write it out and look at it, but it was also fun to read and I thought the riot scenes esp were fun and laid out well :D

Recommendation: If you're alrdy following the plot, definitely get this :] If not but you want to get into GL and GLC before Blackest Night starts, this is a fun issue to start and also it appears to be the issue that kicks things off big time :D

Week of June 10, 2009 Super Short Reviews of DOOOOM the return of the revenge of ultimate super cat ami :o

I know it's been a while... I've been dealing with lots (ppl who read my rants blog know what I mean xD) but today I had a good day and felt a little more like my old self for the first time since... a while >.>;; Neways, I was in the comic store and looking at JSA vs Kobra and considering getting it thinking that "well if it sucks at least I can review it xD" but I'm between jobs right now (stupid economy) so I decided I prolly didn't want to put in $18 for the whole mini series :|

Mind you, I got Red Robin #1 so what do I know about smart investments? xD

Neways so yus, besides RR#1 I also got Green Lantern Corps #37 :] Yus, only two :\ My pull list is small lately (some weeks I dun get nething at all) cuz of the money thing and just cuz my enthusiasm for DC and Marvel comics has rly dropped off sharply from where it was like 2 years ago :\

But meow! Still reading some :)

So on to the super short reviews :D Let's hope I still remember how to do these things xD

Green Lantern Corps - #37 - I enjoyed this issue a lot :) It was fun and action packed and had good charater moments :) Also the build up to Blackest Night is apparently ending and the good stuff is starting now and we see a little in this issue! :D So that was good too! :] I can't wait xDDD 4/5

Red Robin - #1 - >.>;; I didn't expect a whole lot from this issue, as the whole Battle for the Cowl thing in general has been rly blah and nonsensical to me in general, but I thought at least more would happen :\ There's way too much angry monologuing for me I guess xD It's the first issue though so I understand the need to set everything up, esp when you're starting in media res :\ But.. I dunno, the flow seemed a bit off and I just didn't rly enjoy it nor did I rly feel revved up for what's to come or nething. :| 1.5/5

Mrow... hrm.. that was short... xD But fun! I kinda miss this.. it's amazing what eating a little will do for your energy levels and wanting to write! xD Neways.. I hope I wasn't TOO rusty >.>;;
