Hi :D
Okay finally I actually had comics to buy this week! :] So life is good :D
I think I'm mostly recovered now from my wisdom teeth being removed and being rly sick for a few days (which was bizarre xD) and stuff tho :) And I have comics! So hopefully I'll be back to regularly reviewing stuff :D
Neways so this is what I got today :D
Action Comics - #864
Batman - #675
Blue Beetle - #26
DC Universe 0 - #1 (0?) (One-Shot)
Green Lantern - #30
Legion of Superheroes - #41
Teen Titans - #58
Rawr.. I wasn't originally going to get Titans, but Miss Martian was in it, and I luff her, so I got it and I'm SO not sorry I did! :D Miss Martian is GREAT!!!! :D And I relate to her on many levels which I'll get into later :] Also it gave me the MOST HILARIOUS TIM CHARACTERIZATION EVAR xDDDD
So here are the Super Short Reviews™! :D
Action Comics - #864 - This is a set up issue for Legion of Three Worlds but I found it RLY interesting. :] Actually now that Countdown is finally DONE, it seems like things are finally picking up again! :D I rly liked this issue b/c it had lots of Batman/Superman interaction and was just rly interesting in general and had good characterization :D 4.5/5
Batman - #675 - I originally skipped this b/c I haven't rly been enjoying Morrison's writing in this title lately, but Zhinxy told me that it was decent, so I checked it out, and it IS decent :D Batman is still angry!Batman but I liked the plot mostly and Jezebel Jet is still wicked cool and stuff :D The ending doesn't bode well for her tho :( I still thought this was a decent issue tho :D 3/5
Blue Beetle - #26 - Okay this will be a tricky score. :o I rly DO like the story and stuff, and the ending was rly sweet. :] I had some problems with the scarab characterization b/c it seems to go against what was recently established :\ But I guess that's kinda expected with a new writer XD My bigger issue comes from the issue being billed as the special Spanish issue, when rly it's just an issue translated into Spanish, then the English is given at the end so it comes off as a gimmick. Also ppl who actually speak and read Spanish have told me the translation isn't even good and regardless, there's a lot that wouldn't translate well and there's just a huge difference between writing something for a particular language and writing something in another language and translating it. :\ So it just seems rly gimmicky and annoying to me. I mean if you're going to do a story in the language of the superhero and bill it as this awesome authentic thing, and that the English is only a "bonus" (which btw you shouldn't have to PAY extra for "bonus material") you should have somebody fluent in the language write it IN that language and then you can translate it to English. >:| Neways... so ultimately I give it a 2/5 b/c while I enjoyed it, making the special Spanish language issue which is supposed to be respecting Jaime and his family in the comic into just an English issue with a gimmick doesn't sit well with me :(
DC Universe 0 - #1 (0?) (One-Shot) - For a 50 cent comic this was rly enjoyable :D I rly liked all the little previews and the overall narration which turns out to be from a surprise person! :D It also finally has me interested in Final Crisis and the little arcs coming in the DCU for each char :D 4/5
Green Lantern - #30 - We continue our origin story revamp of Green Lantern and I'm enjoying it :) Esp the parts with Abin Sur :D The characterization seems solid to me and it's just sort of relaxing and fun :D 4/5
Legion of Superheroes - #41 - The story continues to be interesting and the characters continue to be neat, fun and cute :D LoS is a book I've been enjoying a lot of lately and I still like it just cuz it's fun and I like the dialogue and stuff and I just... like it :D 5/5
Teen Titans - #58 - Normally I would take off points for bad Robin characterization, but this one was SO HILARIOUS that I think it GETS points. xD It's just.. OMGWTFBBQOUTOFLEFTFIELD XD Also M'gann is awesome and.. just awesome :) We find out more about her history and.. I just rly identify with her and her struggles and her past. :] <3 The plot is okay, I'm not fond of the Terror Titans AT ALL, but M'gann more than makes up for that. :D 4/5
:D
K so that's it! :] Sry about the long BB SSR, but it's a sore spot for me :\ Also my sister's fluent in Spanish and she's none too happy about it either, so I guess I'm sorta expressing for both of us. xD
Detailed reviews coming! :D (hopefully xD) Tomorrow's my birthday tho so, so I may take it off for blogging :D
<3

Edit: apparently my brain blocked out the first couple pages of TT and I forgot they existed :( for personal reasons i dun think i can review it right now :( hopefully later tho, b/c I rly like the other parts :) it's just right now i'm crying :(

Week of April 9, 2008 Super Short Reviews! *koffkoff* :(
Hi :)
I think I'm a bit sick right now so I'll make this fast :( This is what I got this week :D
Booster Gold - #8
Green Lantern Corps - #23
Justice Society of America - #14
Wonder Woman - #19
:)
Neways here are the SSRs! :D (sry sick :( I just wanna hop into bed :\ )
Booster Gold - #8 - As much as I've loved this series, this book is just rly boring cuz the plot is just.. so generic :\ I'm actually getting tired of the "worst case scenario" alternate present/future story where tons of ppl die b/c we know it's all gonna be undone. :( Plus the ending is a theme that's been pushed heavily since the build up to Infinite Crisis :\ I just want this arc to end and to get back to the unpredictable fun that was going on before :) 2/5
Green Lantern Corps - #23 - Interesting! :D Now that GL is taking a break from the Sinestro Corps aftermath, it's nice to see the storyline being picked up in GLC! :D I rly like how events are moving towards something and also just to see the chars I'd gotten used to seeing during the Sinestro Corps War plotline show up again :D 4/5
Justice Society of America - #14 - This issues bored me. Mostly b/c I didn't rly care about the chars and Gog has never rly been a villain I was impressed by or wanted to see more of. :( Also a brief Countdown plug *yawn* The opening I found rly neat but everything else kinda descended into a big fight and I didn't rly like it very much :( 2/5
Wonder Woman - #19 - Given how much I didn't like last issue, this issue wasn't bad at all :) There are some things that didn't feel rly right to me, and stuff seemed to move rly fast towards the end, like there wasn't enuf pages to cram everything in, but otherwise it was decent :) 3/5
Neways, that's it :) Now off to bed!
Good night :D

Blue Beetle - #25 Review (the real one this time, I promise xD)
Blue Beetle - #25

Synopsis: Blue Beetle says Dan Garrett's magic word and the Scarab wakes up and flies towards him and he becomes Blue Beetle again!
On Earth, Guy Gardner, Ice and Fire show up to help the Beetle Allies in their fight agains the Reach ground troops! YAY ^___^
Back on the ship, Blue Beetle explains to the Negotiator that the algorithm he put in the Reach Ship just consisted of random numbers to distract the Reach while the Scarab that was hooked up to the main computer downloaded their plans and transmitted them to Oracle and Batman to send to the world! He explains that the reason the Reach (who have been monitoring every electronic transmission Jaime has been making) didn't realize that Jaime had been in contact with Batman was b/c Jaime sent an old fashioned pen and pepper letter to Batman! :DDDDDDdd
The negotiator, in anger orders that the Reach world rippers prepare to destroy Earth! D:
On the surface again, Brenda wakes up and she and Paco kiss. Paco is attacked by Dawur and Brenda attacks him back and together they defeat him! :O
Jaime uses his own body to interrupt the Reach ship energies causing it to self destruct and prevent it from destroying Earth :o B/c he has to stay on the ship until the last minute for it to work, he and the Scarab accept that they have to die. Suddenly Booster Gold appears in a time rift, grabs Jaime (who tries to save the Negotiator too) and they escape. :DDD
A BBQ is held in the Reyes home (that was rebuilt by WayneTech of course) and a good time is had by all (tho Brenda and Paco pretend nothing happened on the battlefield :( ). :D
Review: Yay! :D This is pretty much as perfect an ending to this arc, and Beetle's growth into a full blown hero, as you could get! :D
I liked everything about this! Well almost everything xD I thought the Brenda/Paco stuff was a little too cliched.. just with the "oh we're gonna drag this out". Considering BB has been all about avoiding this type of plot stuff like Jaime NOT hiding it from his family and friends, Jaime not being obsessively sekritive about his identity, Jaime NOT have a problem asking for help, his family NOT freaking out or nething, it just kinda stood out to me. xD I know it kinda makes sense but it would have been rly cool if they just admitted things and went out :D So far BB has never been about beating around the bush or arbitrary drama and I've rly liked that :D Like Jaime and Traci just going out once they hit it off and no weird love triangles or nething! :)
But I also understand why there would be this twist b/c Rogers is leaving and Pfieffer needs SOMETHING to work with. xD Hopefully it doesn't turn into overdone dramuh :(
I rly like how everybody jumped in to save Jaime tho :) I rly like the old JLI showing up. :D THIS is how to handle a legacy character, you show him having his own cast and still be faithful TO the legacy. Ted's friends showing up, Dan's daughter and magic word, etc... Jaime is his own person and hero but he's also tied to his legacy too, they BOTH are part of him :D
Oh and it rly shows how much respect he's earned that all these ppl will show up to help him not cuz he's Ted but b/c he embodies the best traits of Ted, his heroism, his ingenuity, his determination and his intelligence :) And also b/c they respect and like Ted, it's about both of them not just 1 :) And ultimately, Jaime EARNED this. Which is the bottomline message that I luff SO MUCH about this conclusion. The previous 24 issues have been setting this up, that when it's on the line, Jaime has earned all this respect from everybody that he can confidently enact plans that involve others, and that others will show up without him asking to help :D
He even earned Batman's respect on the several times he's worked with him and Robin. :) And sending the letter to him was BRILLIANT :D Also him using Oracle even tho they had a bit of a crappy beginning when Oracle freaked him out. :)
I KNEW that the magic words was calling to the Scarab to reactivate it (as I stated in the previous review) but I didn't know it was it's name! :O That's cool! :D I like how we can understand the Scarab now, tho I think it's great writing that even BEFORE we kinda knew what it was talking about too :D And that thruout Rogers' run the Scarab's speech has become slowly more like English. :O
Everything Jaime did on the mothership was awesome tho :D How he had it all planned out, how including the previous issues leading up to this, his entire attack on the Reach has been one big well thought out plan that was both simple AND hard for the Reach to predict b/c he got to know how they think :D It's like that old "know your enemy and know yourself" thing :D The algorithm being a random bunch of numbers to distract them while the Scarab did stuff was great too :D
The ending was PERFECT. Jaime rdy to sacrifice himself and asking the Scarab if it would too and the Scarab ttlly agreeing! :D Yay heroic Scarab! I like how the Scarab is good and heroic too! I like how despite all his doubts and insecurities, when the time comes, Jaime ACTS without hestitation, without thinking about himself, he just does what he has to to save ppl and I rly rly like that about him :D And of course Booster's last minute deus ex machina rescue which WORKED SO WELL b/c a) it rly was unexpected b) it made SENSE b/c Booster's a time travelling hero now and it's not like this is out of his character :D Too bad Jaime doesn't remember his time with Booster in the Booster Gold series tho :(
And Jaime wanting to save Neggy at the end was so touching D: Poor Neggy! I felt so bad for him as he realized that this wasn't a fluke, it wasn't bad luck. Jaime had qualities the Reach didn't pay attention to, and that even HE didn't realize: his heroism, his compassion, his leadership, the way ppl respect and like him and will go out of their way to help him when he needs it :) And his intelligence, determination, perserverance and inner strength :D Neggy is right the Reach never had a chance :(
The ending was a rly nice end to this run tho. It was a nice wrap up with everybody having fun at the BBQ at Jaime's house. Of COURSE Batman had Wayne Enterprises rebuild his house XD Batman is behind EVERYTHING since he's so f-ing rich! xD He's always rebuilding ppl's houses or giving ppl jobs and stuff :O But it was a nice touch b/c it's perfectly Batman. He wun show up to the party but he'll send a gift :) Just cuz you're anti-social doesn't mean you're not a nice guy! xD
I think the only big problem I had is that La Dama VANISHED! She wasn't at the party at the end, and we didn't get the closure of her and Brenda's storyline :( Did they make up? Is Brenda moving back? Is she giving up crime for good now? Brenda became all about the Paco thing and La Dama kinda just never showed up again :( That's the only thing that rly bothered me :( She's a HUGE part of the Beetleverse, both as Brenda's aunt and as Jaime's supposed arch villain (even tho rly they're not xD) XD And.. just.. she should have been there and her relationship with Brenda should have gotten a little play :( That makes me sad D:
The 4 JLI heroes making excuses as to why they're there is weird. Jaime implies there's more. Is it that they wun admit that Ted's memory ties them together stronger than they would admit? :D It's very very sweet :)
And Jaime is comfortable with being a superhero now :) I like that b/c it makes SENSE! Over 25 issues, he's been slowly growing, learning things about himself, becoming a hero, both when he has power and when he doesn't, and also in many ways he's always BEEN a hero. :) He's always had the strength and compassion and determination inside him, he just had to find it :)
THAT'S how a teenage superhero who needs to grow into the role and find not just their inner hero but their inner strength and maturity should be written! Supergirl is at TWENTY EIGHT ISSUES and she's only now sorta getting some personality and figuring out how to be a hero! That's what I was complaining about before, and ppl kept saying "oh no it's just teenagers are selfish and stuff and she needs time to grow.. etc etc"
But the problem was she WASN'T GROWING. Jaime grew :) From issue to issue he learned stuff and became a better person. SLOWLY yes, but the movement was there. It wasn't for Kara :( Also teenagers AREN'T selfish and mean and materialistic. That's a stereotype. Teenagers are young, inexperienced, sometimes immature, but those things change as they gain experiences, as they mature, as they grow and find out who they are, it's not some immutable part of who they are. :) Kara never got to grow, they just played her as a stereotype :( She has more issues than Jaime and less characterization :\ It says a lot for Rogers and his writing (and a lot about Kelly too >.>) :D
I esp like how Jaime WANTS to be with the Scarab now! Remember how at the beginning he kept trying to find a way to take it out? Now they're FRIENDS and PARTNERS and he's glad to be reunited with the Scarab and they have conversations and stuff! :D
Oh! And the Scarab having a talk with his fellow Scarabs (presumably about being good, heroic, having free will, etc) is awesome too :D Maybe they'll make friends with the ppl they bond with too and then the Blue Beetles will be like another GL corps! xDDDD
Maybe not >.>
But it was another nice touch to wrap things up :)
Neways the entire issue was just so great and so wonderful and so.. BLUE BEETLE :D I'm gonna miss Rogers now :( I dunno if Pfieffer can take over adequately but no matter what this 25 issue run (tho I know there's been a couple fillers that Rogers wasn't on) is something special and to me, the definitive Blue Beetle story arc :D They should collect them all into one big TPB :D It's rly like "Season 1" of Blue Beetle :D I just hope the next "season" will be an adequate follow up :D
Angelwings Rating: 5 happy Scarabs out of 5 happy Jaimes :D
Recommendation: DEFINITELY BUY IT!!!! >:D

Week of April 2, 2008 Super Short Reviews! :D
Rawr :o
Ami here again! xD I'll get the REAL Blue Beetle review up soon k? :D
I've just been busy and hectic lately :\ Haven't had a lot of time for comic reading, comic buying or comic writing abouts :( I'm sry :\
Neways here's what I got today :D
Action Comics - #863
The All New Atom - #22
Checkmate - #24
Detective Comics - #843
Secret Invasion - #1 (of 8)
Supergirl - #28
Yus :)
I was pleasently surprised by some of the ones I didn't expect much from :] So here are the Super Short Reviews! :D
Action Comics - #863 - Awesome :D I rly liked this plot in general and the conclusion was rly well done with cliched moments that fit well and felt right :D And just.. YAY SUPERMAN! :D 5/5
The All New Atom - #22 - WAY more interesting than the first one but STILL ppl are acting out of character :( And the Atom is still monologuing like Batman :( Still, while I still find everything kinda off and Ryan's characterization to be like.. a total 180 from regular Ryan, at least stuff happened in this issue and it was somewhat interesting to read. :) 3/5
Checkmate - #24 - This issue felt both dragged out AND rushed, like things happened very quickly WHEN they happened, but then slowed down when things weren't happening :( I still am rly enjoying this plot, but some of the rushed parts kinda bothered me :( Also the cliffhanger was kinda out of the blue. I dun think it was even on my mind that it was something that needed addressing but in retrospect it was! xDDD It still seems random tho since there was no build up or set up o.o;; Still a decent issue to continue an interesting plot :D 2.5/5
Detective Comics - #843 - Rly neat! The new ventriloquist gets more layers added to her and stuff :D Also more Zatanna and building on previous issues and her appearances and I rly like that aspect of intra-series continuity. :) Plus there's stuff hinted that I would just SO BADLY WANT TO SEE, even if it's only for a short arc or something! :D Very enjoyable :) 5/5
Secret Invasion - #1 (of 8) - Bwuh? I admit to not knowing as much about Marvel as DC so maybe this doesn't have the gravity it might to a serious Marvel fan, but still... bwuh? xD I understand what's going on and it's entertaining and stuff.. sort of. xD But I fear DRAGGINESS. This first issue didn't drag or nething b/c it was just setting up all sorts of stuff which I find neat. But 8 issues over 8 months (barring delays of which there always seem to be a couple for either of hte big 2's big events)? That's a long time to drag out a plot. :( Is there RLY 8 months of plot in this concept? o.O I dunno.. but for now, this first issue was decent and mysterious enuf that I picked it up after flipping thru it. xD I hope that the payoff matches the setup. 3/5
Supergirl - #28 - Great! :D I rly liked this issue. I know the plot is still silly and there was some random Wonder Woman stuff that just seemed incorrect to me. >.> But... STILL.. Supergirl actually seemed heroic (if a little naive in the cute way xD) and determined and NOT selfish and hateful and stuff. She actually cares and stuff! And even tho the plot isn't great or nething, it's just that characterization of her and her goodness and stuff that has just been missing for so long and it's so great to see it! :D Now if only Superman would stop showing up :( Let her stand in her own book for once! >:O 4/5
:D
Kk! :D So that's it for now! Longer reviews coming! :D

Teh Ami

Blue Beetle - #25 Review
Blue Beetle - #25

Synopsis: Blue Beetle says Dan Garrett's magic word and the Scarab wakes up and flies towards him and he becomes Blue Beetle again!
On Earth, Guy Gardner, Ice and Fire show up to help the Beetle Allies in their fight agains the Reach ground troops!
The negotiator, in anger orders that the Reach world rippers prepare to destroy Earth!
On the surface again, Brenda wakes up and she and Paco kiss. Paco is attacked by Dawur and Brenda attacks him back and together they defeat him!
A BBQ is held in the Reyes home (that was rebuilt by WayneTech of course) and a good time is had by all (tho Brenda and Paco pretend nothing happened on the battlefield).
Review: Well that SUCKED! Srsly! What a crappy ending to this arc! Come on! It was FULL OF CLICHES! Last minute saves? Deus ex Machina EVERYWHERE? Stupid love scenes? I'm tired of strong girls falling for stupid goofy guys! Brenda is WAY better than Paco! They should just make her like girls cuz she's way beyond any stupid idiotic men period!
And those gimmicky guest appearances? Guy? Fire? Ice? Booster? SRSLY. What the fuck was that? More deus ex machina! Plus Jaime offering to save the villain is just LAME and SO OVERDONE!
The scarab talking was STUPID, we shouldn't know what he says! He's supposed to be mysterious, exotic, loyal and helpful, not understood and an individual!
I was expecting SO MUCH MORE, but instead I get fed this overdone CRAP. It's just UGH! And of course Jaime has to look so great. I was hoping for Traci 13 to save him at the end, but he just comes off as SUCH a Gary Stu! Everything is so perfect, he's so compassionate, so smart, so heroic, so EVERYTHING!
UGH
Fucking male heroes!
You know what? I'm actually GLAD now that Rogers is off this book! Now if only they can get rid of weirdethnicguyname too and his stupid art! Bring on Pfieffer! Hopefully he'll fix up this crap!
All the convenient plot twists, the overdone cliches, guest star after guest star, weak-kneed girls and macho male heroism sickens me!
I actually had so much hopes for this conclusion and instead it's just this crap. Plus the Reach are made to look so weak and whiny. OMG WE HAVE NO HOPE AGAINST THE ALL POWERFUL MALE HERO!
BULL FUCKING SHIT
I'm done here.

Recommendation: Burn it, the comic store that sells it, and nuke the town the store is in! What a crap book!
