Week of Sept 26, 2007 Super Short Reviews ^.^

Hi again! XD

I'm tired ;-;

This week had many comics. :O Many many o_o

I thought of picking up JLA now that Meltzer isn't on it nemore, but I decided not to. >_>

However I still managed to get 7 books. :O If it was less I might have gotten JLA XD

Neways so I got:

American Virgin - #19
Batman - #669
Blue Beetle - #19
Green Arrow: Year One - #5 (of 6)
JLA Classified - #43
Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes- #34
Teen Titans - #51

Many o_o

I dun rly have much to say cuz my head hurts right now, so here are my super short reviews :)

American Virgin - #19 - Good :) I'm still rly enjoying AV, and I like that the chars, esp Adam are evolving. I still think he's picked the wrong girl tho, but I guess we'll see. XD The ending is prolly a red herring >_> 4/5

Batman - #669 - The end of the club of heroes arc! :D Sadly the big reveals aren't as exciting as they seemed, and actually were a bit predictable. :\ It does seem to be playing into something larger however and that should be interesting to see :D But for the potential of the set up, this was a bit dissapointing. :( 3/5

Blue Beetle - #19 - Another excellent issue that showcases why Blue Beetle is such a great book. :D All parts of his life are involved here and the fact that he has his own town, his own cast of characters, his own villains and allies, rly shows and it's what makes the book so great :) And again, Jaime uses his brain :3 It seems to be more common now and it's great to see heroes who still do :3 5/5

Green Arrow: Year One - #5 (of 6) - Originally this mini was supposed to be 4 issues, and I can see why. :\ The whole story should have been done in 4 issues, instead we get a long drawn out issue with explosions and stuff but nothing rly happening and no character development. :\ Everybody is still a 1 dimensional cardboard cutout, the villains still have no real menace to them or depth and the victims are still just generic omgoppressed faceless chars. :( I was rly hoping for more with this series :( 1.5/5

JLA Classified - #43 - The story jumps around a lot which is confusing. It seems that it's jumping on the Black Canaray/Green Arrow wedding bandwagon even tho it's set way before. :o But just that b/c their relationship is so in the forefront now, it seems like this book is riding that. XD Regardless, it's still an interesting story and it's fun to see J'onn's earlier years as a hero on Earth and meeting the other heroes and stuff. :) 3/5

Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes- #34 - A lot is happening, and it's a bit confusing. :( Much of the fun of this series seems to have vanished and things are taking more of a darker tone. :\ Also confusing, b/c I'm not that well versed in the LoS mythos and they appear to be referencing past chars and stuff. :o The plot isn't rly all that interesting to me either right now. :( 2/5

Teen Titans - #51 - The future Titans are back! :D I like that XD They are so interesting XDDD The story however is a little flat at times. It's unclear what the villains are trying to accomplish, esp since they know that pushing their old selves to be evil will only cause them to rebel and be good. >_> The ending is good tho and it's something I've always wondered why heroes dun do MORE of. But the plotline seems like an interesting one :3 I'd rly like to see a less action packed plot for the first arc tho just so we get to know the chars better, esp Miss Martian and Supergirl who honestly, still have no character at all. :\ 3/5

Kk, so those are the short reviews :)

I hope I get longer ones up soon! I just feel so crappy lately XD But that's not excuse! I'll get them up! Promise :3

Catwoman - #71 Review

Catwoman - #71

Synopsis:

Selina wakes up from a dream where her daughter was surrounded by villains (including the Joker) wanting to hurt her. :\

She calls Batman who comes over and she tells him how she can't continue on like this with her daughter always being in danger. >_>

The next day, Selina (as her alias Irena Dubronova) buys toys at a toy store for her daughter, making sure to use a credit card and show her ID. When she leaves, a new supervillain calling himself the Revolutionary shows up and he threatens to blow up innocent ppl unless the prisoners in Arkham are freed. :O He grabs Selina and her daughter as hostages, but something goes wrong with the bomb on his chest and he explodes killing them both! :O

Or so it seems XD Predictably, they end up in a sewer where it's revealed to be a plan to fake Selina's death and Batman takes off the mask to reveal himself as the Revolutionary. XD She reunites with her daughter who was in the care of Alfred. :) Later she calls Batman and asks for one more favour. >_>

Review:

I generally liked this issue just cuz it was fun and it showed a lot of great Bruce/Selina interaction :) I always rly luff it when Batman takes off the mask and is just Bruce Wayne and not Teh Skary Dark Knight™. XD

And the Catwoman/Batman relationship is always one of my favourites, esp when the two of them are just good friends and stuff. :)

Plus Batman got to play the supervillain XD And even tho he denies it I bet he was having fun! :D

My favourite Batman line btw was when Selina asked him if he thinks the public bought her fake death and he said:

Of course they did. It was sudden, shocking, violent and tragic. The fact that it barely makes sense only adds to its authenticity.

:D

Oh Batman! XD You are SO meta. :D

That totally applies to comics and entertainment in general too XDDD

I wonder what the ending is about tho :( It appears that Catwoman is having her memory wiped and turning back into a thief b/c of Zatanna? :O

I HOPE NOT! Are you saying that "for the good of her daughter" she's going to take away the memory of her daughter and stuff? That's dumb >:|

And who's going to raise her daughter?

I hope that's not it... but I dunno... it seems like DC is just messing up chars for fun now before Final Crisis >:O

*sighs*

The build up to Infinite Crisis was fun, the build up to Final Crisis is dumb right now. :\

But aside from that foreboding ending, everything else about this issue was rly great and the dialogue was just so sweet and nice and it was rly awesome to see Batman act nice and caring for once :)

<3 Batman XD

Angelwings Rating: 3 out of 5 happy Batmen :D
Recommendation: It's more or less a standalone, and it's worth it just to see Bruce and Selina together :) Plus Batman gets to play a supervillain! :D Definitely recommended!

Superman: Doomsday mini review

I just watched the Superman: Doomsday DVD. :\

I'm too tired for an actual review but I have some quick thoughts.

W.T.F.

As my friend put it after I told her about it "so they took the Death of Superman, ripped everything cool out of it, tossed in some uncanon stuff, packaged and sold it?"

Yus.. basically >.>;;;

I guess I should list what I DID like about it first XD It's not long >.>

- The opening was rly cool cuz the music was smexy and I liked how they went into space with the shots and stuff :3

- Jimmy looks great

- So does Metropolis

- Kevin Smith is in it as himself XD

- They dun hold back on deaths.

Um... I think that's about it >.>;;;

What bothered me can go on forevar >.>;;

First the non specific non spoilery stuff:

- The music was repetitive. Basically they had the opening theme and just.. played it OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!! >:|

- Lois Lane and almost all the women in the film look like large headed teenage Bratz dolls

- Superman's face has too many lines on it

- The fight scenes were erratic and had no soul. Lots of blood and violence... but so hollow. :(

- The movie is SHORT. 70 minutes short. The lack of time is evident since the plot is SO rushed and nobody gets time to rly develop as a character. :\

Kk.... onto the spoilery stuff!

--------- WARNING SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!! ----------

- In what continuity would Superman date and sleep with Lois Lane and take her to the Fortress but NOT reveal his sekrit identity to her and in fact REFUSE to do so!? Esp modern Superman, who wants her to like him as him and not just as "omgSuperman".

- In what continuity would Lex Luthor SHOOT MERCY IN THE HEAD IN COLD BLOOD!?!?!?!? W T F He would NEVAR do that! Not just so callously. W/e >.>

- They should not have done this without being able to get the other heroes. Doomsday beating up other heroes easily is part of what makes him so scary! Esp since it's such a short movie, they need something like that to establish how powerful he is.

- There is no cross country fight between Superman and Doomsday. :(

- The fight between them is so quiet that it's almost eerie. :\ The music doesn't fill it in so well, and it's just not the same without Superman's inner monologue about how powerful Doomsday is. :( At least they should show more of how he feels on his face and stuff :(

- THERE IS NO DOUBLE PUNCH!!!!!!! I FIND THIS ALMOST UNFORGIVABLE! XDD The replacement is cool (where Superman brings Doomsday down from space and they crash in the middle of Metropolis) but they should have had Doomsday get back up and then DOUBLE PUNCH. HOW CAN YOU NOT HAVE THE DOUBLE PUNCH!!!???? It's so iconic. :(

- Superman is awfully callous about innocent lives. :\ They show that Doomsday is horrible cuz he's all killing ppl and stuff, but Superman throws Doomsday into like buildings and then when they CRASH FROM SPACE, there's this GIANT CRATER. It seems like several buildings are just GONE. Would Superman rly do this? He might have killed hundreds of ppl! O_O A real impact at that speed from space would prolly wipe out the city.

- No Cyborg, no Superboy, no Eradicator, no Steel. This was RLY RLY RLY dissapointing, cuz they could have fit them into a longer movie and made it make sense. :\ For example, Cyborg could be a Lex Luthor thing (since Lex is bad here and not Lex Luthor Jr.) that goes out of control in Lex's attempt to make an ebil Superman to defeat and be a hero. Superboy can be a government clone (instead of Cadmus), Eradicator could be the product of the fortress trying to keep alive the El legacy, and Steel is a guy who wants to keep Superman's spirit alive. :\ It's just not FUN without the FUN CHARACTERS! ;-;

- Cuz the movie is so short there's no good reason why clone Superman turned ebil. As far as I can figure out it's cuz he had all of Superman's personality and caring about humanity, but lacked the upbringing of his parents, and so he went totalitarian. I wish they EXPLAINED that better tho. :(

- In the comic book, Jimmy punches a guy in the face for wanting to buy his death of Superman photos to publish in a tabloid. Here he QUITS THE PLANET and happily joins the tabloid and becomes a paparazzi. :(

- Apparently Jonathan Kent is dead. :\ They never say it and just assume we should know that Superman has only one parent. I guess they're making this for movie fans. >.>;;

- So everything cool is gone but they kept the black resurrection suit and mullet. >:| No jet boots tho or Kryptonian warsuit. ;-;

- The fortress robot rescuing Superman is wayyy too convenient (and poorly explained, esp since there was a mystery as to how his body vanished from Lexcorp in the first place). :\

- The fights rly are boring. :\ Cuz there's so little development. It's just like... fights for fights sake. :( They're very hollow and it's hard to care about this Superman cuz we know nothing about him and he acts like SUCH a jerk to Lois (refusing to tell her his sekrit identity while sleeping with her and stuffs)

Oh

For spoilery stuff there was stuff I liked tho. :o Clone Superman killing Toyman was rly good and looked very scary (even tho Toyman was kinda a dumb incarnation and was very skeezy).

When clone Superman goes bad and stuffs, there's a scene where he rescues a cat from a tree for an old woman and is petting it while talking about how he hates doing the small stuff cuz it prevents him from doing the big stuff, and his hand stiffens and I was SO SURE he was going to kill the cat. And it was SOOOOOO creepy! And that's rly good cuz they set it up for you to believe that cuz he killed Toyman!

I just wish they had more development so we knew more about Superclone's reasons for being bad outside of "I wanna protect the city". :(

I DID like Superclone. I wish that he didn't know Luthor made him and stuff tho. The idea of him thinking that he's Superman but just not having the Clark Kent life to balance him is rly cool :D But he's still no Cyborg. :(

I rly hated that Lex killed Mercy in cold blood tho, or Jimmy being a jerk, or how Superman's all "Imma be Superman and be all cool yo and get me some chickies and like, not tell them about Clark Kent so I get no attachments, I am teh awesome!" or how Lois is seemingly okay with this (tho to her credit she figures out that he's Clark even tho he refuses to tell her).

But ultimately the movie lacked soul. :( Without the other heroes fighting Doomsday, without Superman putting it all on the line in a full day, cross country fight with Doomsday, without the double punch, without all the heroes walking with his body, without the huge ceremony, without Lana and Lois sharing a private moment with Clark's parents about his death, and without Clark Kent in general, the movie is just.. very empty. :(

Things happen, ppl die, there's fighting, and that's it. :(

A lot of chars dun act properly, there's little explanation for nething and it's a one hour and 10 minute movie. Less if you take out the opening and ending credits. :(

As a HUGE fan of the Death of Superman, I was rly dissapointed that the movie was such a pale imitation of it and that they didn't rly seem to put a lot of thought or depth into it. :\

;-;

I'll put a more in depth review of the plot and stuff up later :)

Take cares :)

Week of September 19, 2007 Super Short Reviews >.>

Hi :D

My reviews are slowly getting back on track. XD I still have a large stack of comics lying on my table tho. :( It's very annoying XD But it'll slowly be removed >:|

SLOWLY :(

NEWAYS this week I got:

Birds of Prey - #110
Catwoman - #71
Checkmate - #18
Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Parallax - #1
World War Hulk - #4 (of 5)

I'm not sure what the official numbering is? :o Is Tales of the Sinestro Corps considered a series of One-Shots (i.e. every issue is #1) or are all the tales going to be in a numbered series? :O

I just wanna know what to label it as. XD

I'm weird that way >.>

Kk, so in general I enjoyed this week, esp since 2 books that haven't been so great lately (BoP and Catwoman) turned out to be quite good :D

So here are the super short reviews!

Birds of Prey - #110 - An excellent one shot story that's entertaining, fun, and fills in some details about Oracle's other recruiting efforts for the BoP. :) The art is fantastic as usual and Huntress is just always teh awesome. XD 4/5

Catwoman - #71 - This is good just for the Bruce/Selina moments which are real and in character. :) There's one very fourth wall scene, and we see a side of Batman I wish we'd see more often (not the side you might expect XD). :D The only problem is I fear the ending is gonna just end up screwing up Catwoman more. :( 3/5

Checkmate - #18 - YAY POLITICAL INTRIGUE! Finally the heroes go after Amanda Waller, and it's shaping up to be a very interesting battle of wits. :) The ending was given away a long time ago tho which is bad. :( But the beginning of this plot is still interesting and we FINALLY FINALLY might get to know August General in Irons a little better! XD 3.5/5

Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Parallax - #1 - The title lies. :\ This is more a story about Kyle Rayner than nething else. It's kinda boring and it seems weird to be given an entire issue for itself just cuz it should be spread out among several issues of GL or something. >.> But still, it's interesting, and it's nice to see Kyle again at his best :) This brings hope for Kyle fans :3 2.5/5

World War Hulk - #4 (of 5) - I didn't like this issue just cuz... it's so predictable, and I'm tired of the Hulk and his band of Mary Sue's and their "we'll pwn everybody cuz we can"ness. :\ Also the heroes are, as usual, acting not very heroically, which I guess is normal these days. XD At least it's building up to an end. And at this point I just want an end that will not suck. XD 1.5/5

Neways, so that's it :3

I'm all evented out. I hope the big 2 will not put out another event for the next 500 years after Final Crisis and whatever thing Marvel has in store. =_= But I'm not holding my breath ;-;

I'm actually thinking about skipping Final Crisis all together just cuz... I dunno... I rly liked Countdown to Infinite Crisis, I thought it was well handled and it rly made the DCU this place that you felt, things could rly go in any direction and stuffs... at least when I was reading it... even if ultimately a lot of that potential never came to be... but Countdown (now renamed Countdown to Final Crisis) is just NOT interesting AT ALL. Worse yet, it's bad. :( So... :\

I dunno :(

I hope Countdown sales are sucking btw so Didio doesn't follow thru on his threat plan to unleash another 52 week series on us in 2008. :(

Kk, so I'll put up longer reviews soon! Take cares!

Green Arrow: Year One - #4 (of 6) Review

Green Arrow: Year One - #4 (of 6)

Synopsis: Ollie awakens to find himself being tended to by Taiana, the pregnant Asian girl who he met earlier. >.>;; She uses opium to dull his senses and allow her to set his bone (which is sticking right out of his arm ><).

Meanwhile, China White yells at Hackett for not killing Ollie and threatens to throw him in a pit with rats. Hackett promises to find Ollie.

Ollie slowly heals while being given opium every day to take away the pain, eventually he gets addicted. Finally one day Taiana shows up and tells him his arm is healed but Ollie stills wants opium b/c he's hooked and he grabs a necklace off her in anger before realizing what's happening to him. Then they exposit, and she reveals that her husband was killed trying to steal a boat to help them escape. She also tells Ollie that she knows who he is b/c he talks in his sleep but that she hasn't told the other villagers and to them he's known as the "Green Arrow".

She tells Ollie to escape and tell the world. Suddenly guards appear and Ollie shoots them with his bow allowing her to escape. However he breaks his makeshift bow in the process and is forced to flee.

He finds that his luxury boat has washed onto the same island he did, and he collapses inside it, fighting opium withdrawl for days until he finally succeeds and wakes up. :O

He showers and shaves in the boat, takes the bow that he won at auction and then leaves, burning the boat to attract the bad guys so he can defeat them. :O

Review: Altho it IS interesting, Green Arrow: Year One is filled with tropes galore AND so many problems that it hurts my head just thinking about them. XD

First it's the stereotypes, esp with the young pregnant girl whose husband was killed by the ebil ppl and nurses the strong hero back to health before being captured (presumably, since Ollie didn't kill any of the guards send to find her) and now the hero has to free her and her ppl. XD

Also there's the whole nice geisha Asian girl contrasted with the evil dragon lady who throws ppl into pits. >.>;;

There's also Hackett, the bad guy who is slowly reconsidering his ways and can't bring himself to kill Ollie. >.>;;

XD

But also a LOT of stuff makes NO sense.

Like if China White is so ruthless why would she tolerate so many mistakes from Hackett? Esp since he lied about killing Oliver in the first place when she SPECIFICALLY instructed him to put 2 bullets in his head. And then in the forest after Ollie broke his arm and blacked out. Altho a tree fell on Hackett, he clearly survived, so unless Taiana has super speed or invisibility or something, Hackett would have had a chance to kill Oliver, and again passed.

It should be pretty clear to China by now that Hackett grew to like Ollie after working for him for so long, and refuses to kill his friend.

And since she has tons of guards, wouldn't it make sense to send them all looking for Ollie and not just Hackett?

And then there's the injury. XD My sister claims it's impossible for him to heal from it b/c the bone is like.. gone.. just ripping out of his arm. >.>;; It's gross. XD But assuming it is possible, it would take months to heal wouldn't it? :\

Exactly how pregnant *IS* Taiana? She was VERY pregnant when Ollie met her and according to the story after she was pregnant, her husband tried to steal a boat and was caught. According to China White who has been holding him all along, that was over 7 months ago. >.>;; Taiana appears about 8-9 months pregnant, so... why is she still pregnant after Ollie's healed?

Unless Ollie has like SUPER HEALING POWERS OR SOMETHING.

That type of injury doesn't heal quickly, ESP since he's not rly being fed nething and he's lying in the middle of a jungle.

Tho I guess there's enuf wiggle room to claim that Ollie just healed fast (in a month or so) and Taiana gives birth like.. at the end of the story. >.>;;

Where does Taiana get so much opium (enuf to give him daily for several weeks)? Surely somebody will notice it's going missing!

How is it that Hackett has been searching the forest for all this time and not found a stationary Ollie Queen? Obviously he must not rly care to find him!

What about the guards? They conveniently show up when Ollie is healed. All this time on this tiny little island they didn't run into him?

Esp since Taiana says that he talks in his sleep. That should draw guards to him shouldn't it? What kind of crappy supervillain outfit is China running!?

XDDD

How famous *IS* Ollie Queen? This island's native population appear to have nothing more than huts. It's unlikely they'd know much about America, much less know who Ollie Queen is.

I have no idea how listening to Ollie talk in his sleep would tell her that he's a billionaire either! Does he talk in the third person? Does he mention being super rich all the time? How does she know that he's not just imagining it? He *IS* dreaming after all!

Where does Taiana get the time to hang around Ollie so much that she can listen to him dream (he can't talk in his sleep ALL the time or dream ALL the time can he, clearly the chances of her being around to hear all the relevent information about him is pretty slim)?

And we're still ignoring the fact that Taiana speaks and understands perfect english. XD

Why do the villagers know who Green Arrow is if they've never seen him and he's never seen them? Does Taiana just tell stories about him? XD How do they know that Ollie brought down the pirate plane with a bow and arrow or that he wears green? Again, unless Taiana's been telling stories to them. XD But she described it to appear that they know of him as a myth and she's the only one who just found out the truth. But.. Ollie didn't even KNOW of the volcano plantation until recently. And they're not allowed to go out of it, so how do they know NETHING about him?

Also Taiana didn't meet Ollie until AFTER he found the volcano so how does she know he shot the plane down or nething else he did?

>.>;;

His ship being on the same island is very convenient. XD Ollie guessed that Hackett tried to scuttle her but failed and it washed ashore just like Ollie. >.>;; WELL HACKETT JUST SUCKS DOESN'T HE!?

What ARE the chances tho that everything would just wash ashore to this particular island?

And why wouldn't Hackett just pilot the boat to China White? If he scuttled it, did he have another boat? Maybe he pilotted it to the island and forgot ALL about it? XD He DOES suck after all.

But you're telling me that they have this sekrit base on this island for so long with PLANES flying over it and they didn't see a functioning boat sitting on the shore!?

O_O

And burning it makes no sense either. :\

Honestly, Ollie thinks he has a better chance now just cuz he's determined? THEY HAVE GUNS!

If bows and arrows could defeat guns so easily, America would still be controlled by the Natives. :(

Wouldn't it be better to take the boat out, get help and come back and destroy the operation once and for all? What if Ollie dies? Then nobody finds out about this place and everybody is still enslaved! Congratulations!

>:|

Apparently Taiana's husband is still alive.. after 7 months in a rat pit. :o Lazy rats. >.>;; Or does he EAT the rats to survive?

How does he survive SEVEN MONTHS in what's basically a death pit?

China says that he's slowly being eaten by them. But he's still alive. How? >.>; I know that the writer is trying to impart upon us how ebil China is and how she uses such horrible torture but... unless she feeds him, he would have died from starvation long ago.

Unless he eats rats.

But she says they're eating him. >.>;;

=_=;;

NOTHING ABOUT THIS MAKES SENSE!

So I propose a new theory!

Ollie Queen has just been punk'd! And ALL of this is just one big show and at the very end Ashton Kutcher will show up and let him in on the big joke and he'll shoot Ashton in the face with an arrow, and everybody will cheer, and THAT'S how he became a big hero! XDDD

Kk so that was a lot of inconsistancies. XD Moving on... >.>;; This was a very slow issue and the exposition was annoying, esp since a lot of it was just making illogical jumps in order to get the chars from point A to point B. :\

And for all that talking nothing was rly learned about the chars and instead we just get a lot of illogical jumps. :(

This story sort of relies on being generic, that we've all heard and seen this story before elsewhere and we know where it's going and what roles every char should play, so our brains fill in the blanks and it makes sense cuz it's a cliche and familiar to us. :o

And I DID like this story mostly before this issue, even tho it was very stereotypey but this issue was like a big reveal issue, but all the reveals made no sense, and the inconsistancies (esp in relation to time) is just rly glaring. XD

Neways, I hope the last 2 are rly something :)

Angelwings Rating: 1.5 out of 5 drugged up Ollie Queens
Recommendation: Not rly worth it unless you're alrdy following the story, but definitely not a reason to start :(

Detective Comics - #836 Review

Detective Comics - #836

Synopsis: Batman and Robin watch over Kay's apartment while Batman worries that Kay might be in danger. As Bruce Wayne he installed as many security devices in her home as he could, and as Batman he installed more. :O

However, he can't protect ALL of the homes in Gotham City from the Scarecrow!

Meanwhile, Scarecrow is torturing the ppl he captured, subjecting them to various stimuli to scare them before killing them in front of the other captives! :O

Commissioner Gordon talks to Batman about the situation and how ppl are afraid to come out during the night now and that the economy of Gotham is starting to be affected. :o Nobody has any idea how Scarecrow is finding a way to put scarecrows all over the place or nething and it's freaking everybody out. :o

However, Batman says the better question is where is Scarecrow getting all of the hay from? :o He and Robin decide it must be either from the zoo or the stables since Gotham isn't known for it's farms. :o

Robin goes to investigate the zoo and finds strange things going on so he investigates further. Batman finds nothing. :O

Robin gets caught in some Scarecrow traps that try to slice him up but he manages to survive! However, he runs into Scarecrow who pricks him and tries to convince him that he's tired and that the bear traps underneath him are pillows to lay down on.

Batman shows up tho and unleashes tons and tons of Bats on Scarecrow! However, the barn lights on fire (of course) and Batman and Robin must save the captives, allowing Scarecrow to escape! But he forgets about his own traps and gets disemboweled by his own blades. :O

Ew >.>;;

He is apparently NOT DEAD and being treated in a hospital where he now realizes that he can be scary without the gas and once he's healthy he'll return with a vengeance! :O

Batman gets together with Kay and she is still hopeful for Gotham. :)

Review: :O This was actually a little dissapointing. :( I was hoping for some great resolution and this was a bit odd. Like... Scarecrow didn't rly do nething special against Batman, and Batman scared him with bats.. >.> It was never explained HOW Scarecrow is able to put up Scarecrows everywhere either. Esp since Batman and Gordon both said it was impossible and they had no idea how he did it without being seen.

And then it's never addressed. :(

I AM SO GLAD KAY IS ALIVE THO! Is she gonna be his regular g/f in Detective now? :o

I HOPE SO >:|

I like that Batman installed stuff in her apartment tho? IT MAKES SENSE! Why doesn't he do that more? Why dun ALL superheroes do that? :D

Plus it means she's safe and we dun have to worry about a WiR moment. XD

It's nice to see Batman CARING about the women in his life tho, instead of being so "whatever" about it. >.>;;

He didn't drug her or knock her out or nething. He called her to check up on her and secured her apartment instead of making lame excuses to ditch her and avoid her when she's panicked. :D

Batman told Robin to call him if he thought he might have a lead on Scarecrow but not to engage, but Robin engaged instead of hanging back to be safe. :O

BAD ROBIN!

I'm confused what pricking Robin was supposed to do since Scarecrow said he wasn't using drugs or toxins. :o Unless he just meant that he wasn't using the gas nemore, but he was still using some sort of hypnotic drug?

Otherwise how was he hoping to convince Robin to fall down onto the traps? :o

Scarecrow's whole crazy hypnotism thing he does now still makes very little sense. :(

I disagree with IGN's review about this tho, in that I think Scarecrow DID prove himself to be a threat. Like, in terms of striking fear. They said he didn't kill a lot of ppl but that's the POINT. He doesn't HAVE to to be scary. He only has to kill a few and show that he CAN kill ppl whenever he wants.

Putting all the scarecrows everywhere was to show that he could get newhere he wanted. :o

I also never rly agreed whenever ppl dismissed Scarecrow as a B or C list Batman villain. :\ I always thought of him being tier-2 A list. :o He seems interesting and he's been involved in some great Batman stories (at least in that collection of Scarecrow stories I read) and I like his gimmick, that he's an expert on fear. :D

I'm glad they're moving away from the gas tho and showing the psychological side of his char, esp since he's a professor who specialized in phobias. :)

Him being disemboweled was yuck, but they didn't show it so it was ok. I was confused as to what happened at first. :o Can he rly recover from that tho? It sounds... rly rly horrible. :(

NEWAYS, this was a bit of a let down finish to an exciting beginning, but it wasn't horrible and it at least refreshed the Scarecrow character for future stories :D Hopefully by Dini XD

Angelwings Rating: 4 out of 5 Pricky Scarecrows
Recommendation: Worth reading if you read the first chapter :)

Booster Gold - #2 Review

Booster Gold - #2

Synopsis: Booster is in the time ship with Rip and finally manages to extort a promise out of Rip that he'd help him save Ted Kord from death. :O They then move onto business, and the death certificate of Hal Jordan that Booster saw in place of his JLA membership.

Rip explains that Booster has to save Guy Gardner, now considered the greatest Green Lantern evar. Somebody went back in time and got Sinestro to meet Guy before he should. Guy becomes Earth's Green Lantern and dies earlier than he should from a plague. Apparently Guy is instrumental in the Sinestro Corps War and without him Sinestro rules the galaxy. :O

Rip sends Booster to do his job while Rip goes time diving to see if he can find who's changing time. :o

In 1939, Dan Garrett discovers the Beetle scarab and becomes the Blue Beetle. :O

In California, much later, a young Guy Gardner tells his mother over the phone that he's not coming back home for Christmas b/c he has a football game to watch.

Booster spots Sinestro going to talk to Guy and attacks him. They fight for a bit where Sinestro explains that somebody told him that Guy would be the greatest Lantern and his student and Sinestro wanted to meet Guy for himself. :o

Rip flies thru time and runs into a giant mechanical planet!

Back in the past, Booster realizes that Sinestro is egotistical and plays to his ego, telling him in the future everybody remembers him and that he's his biggest fan. :o He explains that the person who told Sinestro to meet Guy is trying to make him feel fear, fear of being replaced, and that if he goes to find Guy he only acknowledges that he is afraid. Booster reassures Sinestro that nobody could evar replace him.

Sinestro notices Booster's Legion flight ring and asks him why he wears it. Booster says that everybody in the future wears a ring in tribute to Sinestro. Sinestro then asks what Corps he belongs to and Booster says that he belongs to the Sinestro Corps of course. This gives Sinestro ideas. >.>;;

Booster then goes to meet Guy and sees him in a bar, looking sad and staring at the phone. Guy explains that he doesn't like his father and doesn't want to go home to see him even tho he's dying. Booster tells his own story about how he didn't like his dad and wished he had a chance to see him but his dad never wanted to. This makes Guy change his mind and go home.

Upon going back to the ship, Skeets explains to Booster that if Guy hadn't gone home he'd have been closer to Abin-Sur's ship than Hal and HE would be Earth's first Green Lantern! :O

Rip suddenly smashes into the ship and Supernova appears but Skeets says that it's not Daniel Carter in the suit! Supernova flees to the wild west where he recruits Jonah Hex to help him. O_O

Review: Time travel is so crazy XD Lately tho, DC seems to beg oing with the pre-destination paradox idea to explain time travel. :o That there's actually NO problem with time travel b/c ultimately everything that should happen happens b/c every decision you make is the one you're supposed to make. :o

For example, whoever's in the Supernova suit wants to change the course of history and help Sinestro win (presumably), so they go back in time to make Guy Gardner die, this forces Booster Gold to go back in time to stop Sinestro, which gives Sinestro the idea for the Corps in the first place and makes Guy Gardner NOT be Earth's Green Lantern.

So Supernova, instead of changing history, set in motion a series of events that made the very history he was trying to change! If he HADN'T gone back in time, then the Sinestro Corps wouldn't exist (since Sinestro wouldn't have had that idea put in his head) and Guy Gardner not Hal Jordan would be Earth's first Lantern. :O

Craziness XDDD

It DOES make sense tho :o

I'm confused about the Greatest GL thing. Cuz it appeared at first that Rip was saying that the altered future would have had Guy being the greatest (but then dying) but Skeets explains that Guy is instrumental in defeating the Sinestro Corps which seems to imply that the "Greatest GL" thing is NOT an alternate future but is actually what happens, that in the future Guy is eventually remembered as the greatest due to his actions in the war. :O

That would be SO cool if it was true. XD

But I doubt it. :\

It WAS very confusing tho. :(

What was that that Rip saw in the timestream. :o Was it the new War World that the Anti-Monitor and Cyborg Superman were building, was it Ranx, that Sinestro Corp ebil tech planet, or was it something else? :o Like Monarch's base or one of the Monitors? :o

I'm confused!!!! XD I wonder who's in the Supernova suit. :O

EVERYTHING IS SO CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to see Jonah Hex tho! :D

I luff Jonah Hex XDDD

Neways :D I rly liked this issue esp how Booster solves problems with his brain instead of his powers :D And how he inadvertantly set everything in motion. THO if this is true for EVERY issue this might get rly boring rly fast, if everything was just a sly in joke and a "oh look what Booster did, he made Joe Chill scared so now he carries a gun to rob rich married couples" or something. :\ Then it'd be kinda annoying. :(

But for this one issue it was rly fun and it was GREAT seeing a young Guy Gardner who wasn't such a jerk and hadn't yet sustained that brain injury he apparently did that made him a jerk. :D

I didn't rly like the whole "go home to see your dad" thing tho. I'm a little sick of that trope just cuz... of my own dad who was abusive to my mom and a real asshole, and honestly, I barely consider him my dad (he was never around neways cuz he was always with his mistress). :\

And Guy's dad sounds worse! And it just seems like the idea is that "oh he's your blood relative so you MUST see him and you'll be happier for it" but some ppl just dun CARE about the family thing at all. And if his dad rly beat him and his mom the way he says, then wtfm8!? So he's dying, it's time to be nice?

Um no ty. It sounds like he wasn't much of a father to Guy, and family is what you make of it, not who you're related to. :\

Tho if Guy and his dad rly did make up and his dad rly DID make amends or something... then... ok? >.>

But I am a little annoyed whenever fiction plays up the whole "horrible parent is dying and you must be nice now" thing. :(

Nobody in my family felt bad rly when my dad died cuz he was so horrible to all of us, in many ways (even to his own mom :( ), and like.. life just isn't that simple sometimes. :( I just felt for Guy, and I dun think he was wrong or nething to not want to go home. :\

NEWAYS

That was a personal tangent :D

I can't wait for Jonah! XD

Angelwings Rating: 4 out of 5 self fulfilling Booster Golds XD
Recommendation: Definitely get on this series if you're not alrdy! >:D

Teen Titans - #50 Review

Teen Titans - #50

Synopsis: In front of Titans Tower, Robin gives an eulogy about Bart Allen as all the "main" Titans gather. Afterwards, they recount a story where Bart borrowed the Batwing from Robin and crashed into the Smallville sign and Superboy. >.>;;

In Washington DC, Wonder Woman is distracted by a mysterious person (alternate future ebil Superboy) and attacked by another mysterious person (alternate future ebil Wonder Girl).

Back at Titans Tower, Ravager grabs Kid Devil aside and strips naked to swim in the pool cuz she's a "bad girl". >.>;;;

In Toronto (!? XDDD), J'onn is attacked by a fake Wonder Woman (alternate future ebil Miss Martian) and then pushed into somebody who burns him (alternate future ebil Kid Devil)!

Back at the Tower, the other Titans (Flash, Cyborg, Starfire, Beast Boy, Raven, etc) talk about how Wally was to Bart how Barry was to Wally.

They recount another story, this time with the old old titans and Wally West as Kid Flash on his first day. There's an emergency as a building is burning down and Wally rushes in to save everybody, he realizes he's not fast enuf, but uses his arms to generate cyclones to lift the remaining ppl to safety. Everybody congratulates him. XD

In the present again, the Titans watch "Tiny Titans" b/c Dan Didio looked at DC's crappy sales and felt the need to put a blatant plug into the actual issues. >.>;; Suddenly Bart returns! But Supergirl sees thru him and reveals Bart to be Miss Martian! Wonder Girl gets mad but Ravager likes it. >.>;;

In Gotham, Batman gets ambushed by somebody who moves rly fast (alternate future ebil Superboy).

A 7 page almost word-for-word retelling of the Blue Beetle #18 is shown. >:\

In Metropolis, Clark is ambushed by somebody with a lasso (alternate future ebil Wonder Girl again) and then knocked out by somebody who looks like Batman wielding a green Kryptonite ring (alternate future ebil Robin).

Outside the Tower, Robin sits on a chair looking at Bart's statue when Wonder Girl shows up. They have a short conversation about how annoying Bart was and recap Young Justice stories. Then Wonder Girl and Robin get close for another poorly conceived kiss while remembering a dead friend and teammate. =_=;;

Suddenly Wally shows up again and says that "they're" alive. He's knocked out and ebil alternate future Flash and Superman show up!

Review: If DC doesn't ACTUALLY have an extra sized story to tell, they rly shouldn't FORCE an extra sized issue just b/c the number is 50 or something. =_=;;

Esp since a series like Teen Titans has actually had MANY iterations, so the idea of celebrating the 50th issue is silly, since this is actually the 50th issue of the recent run of Teen Titans, and not EVAR. >.>;;

The short stories are kinda meaningless. :\ The first one seemed to lack a point or an ending. Bart just picked up Conner and... that was it. XD

The 2nd one was prolly the best cuz it was cute and about the past and had George Perez on art, but it kinda fell flat too. :\ It was like... Wally's first day was that he saved ppl when he wasn't sure he belonged on the team. >.>;; It could have used a few more pages XD

Of course then we have 7 pages of Blue Beetle inserted into our Titans book. XD It would make 0 sense to nebody not reading Blue Beetle, and honestly what was shown wouldn't make nebody read Blue Beetle either.

WHAT MAKES IT WORSE is that not only is Beetle ON THE COVER, implying that he's part of the story somehow, but that the dialogue is almost word-for-word of the original. So there's NO NEW MATERIAL!

*SCREAMS*

Then there's the fact that these new Titans are so much like a cliquey popular high school group. XD Robin and his hot girl buddies, all of which fulfill a stereotype of some sort! XD

And Ravager :( I dunno why she has to be so generic. :\ And I dunno why writers seem to think having an abusive past will make you a "bad girl" and therefore an exhibitionist. :( Like, honestly ppl who have had horrible things happen to them, esp done by ppl they trust (like her dad) would NOT like physical contact, and be more closed about themselves, not this weird male fictional fantasy of the slutty bad girl who runs around sleeping with everybody. :\

And it's VERY disturbing that they feel the need to keep sexualizing minors in their stories. :( This is obviously not for kids to read, or even adults, it's for young male teenagers who can't buy porn, to take to their rooms as wank material. >:|

I know that teenagers DO do slutty things irl. I dunno why that's a defence that's used so much to justify crappy writing and/or editorial decisions tho. Lots of stuff happens irl. >.>;; It doesn't ALL make it's way into fiction that's supposedly aimed at young people. :\ Also does it have to be shown? Is that NECESSARY? >.>;; Whatever happened to her just throwing her clothes onto Kid Devil off panel?

It just seems like.. ppl are upset by Nymphet and stuff cuz she's underage and so are the Teen Titans, so showing one of them practically naked for the purpose of sexual titillation seems... disturbing. :( Also counter productive if you want to expand your audience XD

The sad part is the MOST interesting part of this story is that the alternate future Titans are back (and apparently include the new members now) and that's only teased at!

:\

*sighs*

I wanna read THAT story!

The plug for Tiny Titans was silly. :\ That's Bart's favourite TV show? XD How convenient! Do the Titans get royalties for the use of their images? :o

Robin and Wonder Girl are soooo cute together even if they still make very little sense and they only seem to kiss when they're talking about dead friends and when they're near monuments of their dead friends. :\ Which is a little creepy. >.>

Wonder Girl of course is a stick figure with balloons on her chest. >.>;;

The new Teen Titans seems less a collection of teenage superheroes trying to find their way than Titans 90210, filled with pretty 20 somethings pretending to be teenagers. :(

And it's kinda annoying to me that Miss Martian is basically tv Starfire. :( She's new and innocent and oh so cute, and she speaks without contractions. Like ALL aliens/androids since Data. Teal'c, Data, Starfire, it's like if they speak without contractions they seem so much more.. alien. XD

The stuff about Bart however was RLY RLY cute XD And makes me wish that this book was actually a collection of stories about Bart's antics in Young Justice and not... whatever this was. =_=;;

I hope that these Titans actually turn out to be interesting and more than just a bunch of teenage stereotypes used to give the artist excuses to draw teen girls in various stages of undress. :\

However, I have faith in Sean McKeever and I hope he doesn't let his fans down :D

BRING ON THE EBIL FUTURE TITANS ALRDY!!! XDDD

Oh!

I DOOOO luff that J'onn was in Toronto tho! XD WHY is he in Toronto? :o Is that his new city? :O THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!

Also they drew our skyline correctly. :O

Angelwings Rating: 2 out of 5 nekkid teenagers
Recommendation: Not worth the 4 dollars it's priced at >:\

Week of September 12, 2007 Super Short Reviews :)

Hihi :D

I think I'm getting myself back in the reviewing mood after a short break :D

Hopefully neways XD

The person doing cash at my comic store SO can't do math! >:|

It's rly frustrating :\ He takes a rly long time doing simple calculations and often does things the long way in cash (instead of just going 2.89x10) for instance he'll do each one seperately.. something a co-worker yelled at him for today. :O

When I got to the cash, after seeing how long he took I was like "they're all 2.89 and I have 7 of them" >.>

NEWAYS

so this is what I got today:

Booster Gold - #2
Green Lantern - #23
JLA Classified - #42
Justice Society of America - #9
Suicide Squad - #1 (of 8)
Superman - #667

Star Wars: Legacy - #16

I dunno whY i got Star Wars >.>

I think it's cuz it claimed to be about Obi-Wan and I luff Obi-Wan XDD But it was barely about him and def not about "the legacy of Obi-Wan" like it said. :(

Bleh :\

Neways things were generally good :D

I worry that I'm being too nice lately cuz I'm rating most comics good, but I think it's cuz I dropped all the bad ones? XD

I didn't pick up Black Adam cuz the last issue grossed me out. :(

Booster Gold - #2 - Fun! But self fulfilling XD Time travel hurts my head SOOOO much! XD Everything is a predestination paradox!!!!!!!!!!!!! XDDDDDDDDD But it was rly great to see Sinestro before his ebilness and Guy Gardner before his jerkiness :D 4/5

Green Lantern - #23 - Crazy! The Guardians are being all dark and edgy now. XD The ending is great tho and I'm so glad that we might finally be getting some sort of GOOD hero crossover :D 4/5

JLA Classified - #42 - Kinda slow and boring. It's about the Martian Manhunter's first time with the JLA but it seems to be more of a Superman story. XD However a story about MM's first encounter with other heroes is prolly gonna be a rly good one :D 3/5

Justice Society of America - #9 - Yay for freak endings! XD But we all alrdy knew it was coming. :( Not that much actually happens here and even tho I luff the characterization we're starting to see the same char traits for each char show up in every issue. :( I hope they become more well rounded soon! :D 3.5/5

Suicide Squad - #1 (of 8) - Excellent :D I luff the Suicide Squad and Waller and I'm so glad that they have their own series again XD This was a rly good book and a great start to the series (tho the ending is so weird XD) and the chars involved are rly interesting too :D The timeline is a bit off tho :\ Since supposedly the story would be happening during Identity Crisis and that is contradictory in some aspects. ;-; But it's still rly rly good :) 5/5

Superman - #667 - Yay Arion! XD He returns for some craziness! Also Subjekt-17 XD The issue seems very odd and is kinda badly paced at times, but also entertaining for the most part. :) I just hope the ending to the arc is rly good :) 3/5

Yus :D

So that's it! XD I'll put up longer reviews soon!

I PROMISE :D

*scout's honour* XD

:D

NEWAYS

Take care :D

Week of September 6, 2007 Super Short Reviews :)

Hi :D

Ty all for your kind words last week :) I'm still not doing so great but good enuf to post stuff XD

I'm glad I didn't pick up comics on Wednesday since I forgot that Monday was labour day XD So there wouldn't have been comics to pick up neways >.>

Neways this week I only got 3 comics :o

They were:

Detective Comics - #836
Infinity Inc. - #1
Supergirl - #21

:D

I didn't pick up the Atom cuz I'm falling behind in it and the Countdown stuff bores me XD

I think that other stuff might have come out but b/c I was a day late in getting comics (I only got them today :( ) I might have missed ome. :\

So here are my super short reviews! :D

Detective Comics - #836 - Good! But a bit anti-climatic. :\ I was expecting a rly good ending, but this was kind of a cheap deus ex machina ending. :( But at least the Scarecrow is revitalized! :D Plus no WiR moment! XD 4/5

Infinity Inc. - #1 - I dun rly know what to think since not much happened. It was mostly set up, but set up for WHAT, I'm not sure. :\ Very stereotypically teen tho.. like... how teens are portrayed in the media XD Also confusing! It does seem intriguing tho. >.> 3/5

Supergirl - #21 - This is more of a Countdown Tie-In than a Supergirl story. :( Supergirl is still drawn and portrayed rly well, esp her relationship with the Kents, which is something that's long been overdue. XD And at least they're finally acknowledging her 31st century adventures. XD I wish we'd actually get to see Supergirl do Supergirl stuff tho instead of always being involved in some guest star's adventures. :( 3/5

:O

Yus. :( Short ;-;

What happened to Green Arrow: Year One!? :O

It was supposed to be bi-weekly, so it should have come out this week but according to DCcomics.com, the next one is coming out at the end of the month!? :O

I'm tired of all these books being delayed. >:(

Neways.. I should be hopefully putting up my longer reviews soon! :D

Week of August 29, 2007 Super Short Reviews

Ppl take internet blogging wayyy too srsly. XD

Like it's an assault on their honour if somebody disagrees with them! OH NOEZ.

Neways... I've been posting so few reviews. :( I think I'm just tired. :\

I'm exhausted lately.. and I think I'm just kinda bored of the current batch of DC and Marvel comics. :(

Also I've been having issues irl that have been stressing me. :(

Neways, this week I got:

Action Comics - #855
American Virgin - #18
Batman Annual - #26
The Four Horsemen - #1 (of 6)
Teen Titans - #50

>.>

No I didn't get the end of Amazons Attack b/c I dropped it way before since it was so hard to read. :(

Here are my super short reviews anyhow. :\

Action Comics - #855 - Bizzare! :D I find the concept of Bizzaro world cute. XD Tho I'm confused by whether Bizzaro is just a slow bad grammared Solomon Grundy type now or whether he's backwards. :\ He seems to be both! Sometimes he means what he says, he just says it poorly, and sometimes he means the opposite of what he says! >.> Neways, I hope this arc isn't as delayed as the Zod one. :( 3.5/5

American Virgin - #18 - This was one of the "world tour" stories, where Adam just learns about new cultures and new smex stuff rather than learning something new about Cassie. :) But it's still fun like that. :D The ending's also kinda cute as Adam realizes something about himself ^^ 4/5

Batman Annual - #26 - This is a very generic "past story of a supervillain" tale. :\ It advertises the origin of Ra's Al Ghul but doesn't rly deliver, and things are kinda confusing and convoluted. :( It's not a bad story but it's not rly nething amazing that you might expect from an Annual. 2.5/5

The Four Horsemen - #1 (of 6) - It seems like Countdown is so bad that everybody can't wait for more of 52. XD I rly like the set up for this story, ESP since it involves the big 3 (FINALLY) outside of the JLA and has them doing things. :D This could be a rly good story, so I recommend trying it out :D 3.5/5

Teen Titans - #50 - This is actually several stories in one. >.> It's not particularly bad, tho I have no idea why Blue Beetle's advertised in it, since his "story" is just a short retelling of what happened in the last Blue Beetle issue, which is.. rly rly false advertising. XD I can't wait until we see what McKeever can rly do tho. :3 Also the ending sets up a new story which I can't wait to read. :D 3/5

:\

Blahs :(

That's it for now. :\ I think I need to take a walk or something ;-;

NEWAYS take care :D I'll post some longer reviews (I PROMISE). :)

I just feel very.. out of it lately. :(
