Blue Beetle - #18 Review

Blue Beetle - #18

Synopsis: At the site of a shuttle launch, Jaime, Brend and Paco are with their schools on a school trip. Jaime runs into Tim Drake without realizing it b/c all of the Teen Titans there are being disguised by Miss Martian.

Both Beetle and the Titans are there to investigate Reach interference with the shuttle launch, tipped off by Batman. XD

Jaime turns into Beetle and he meets the Titans and assumes that they're hired by the Reach so he fights them. :O

Robin takes Brenda and Paco hostage to get Jaime to stop and listen to reason. Robin, Paco, Brenda and the other non flyers go to make sure the rocket is launched b/c Batman has something on the Rocket that will help defeat the Reach. :)

However, Lobo shows up and Beetle, Wonder Girl, Supergirl and Miss Martian have to stop him from destroying the rocket, as he's been hired by the Reach! :o

Much fighting ensues while Paco, Brenda and Oracle work together to launch the rocket ahead of schedule before Lobo can interfere. XD

They succeed, but the rocket launches while Ravager is near by! Jaime shows up just in time to protect her from the blast of the flames :O

Lobo leaves, Robin tells Beetle that Batman believes him about the Reach and that Jaime can come by the Titans Tower netime to train with them or hang out. :)

Review: XD Bad science. XDDDDDD I know it's a comic book, but I just found it rly weird that nobody finds the NOISE of a rocket launch to be a problem. If Ravager is underneath, being protected from the heat by Beetle wouldn't be enuf!

Tho I guess there could be some excuse about the scarab suit having weird sound dampening abilities that it can project onto others. XD

Altho this issue was fun, it was sloppy. :(

The art is inconsistant (due to 2 artists), and while one artist can't seem to draw different faces (that's Jaime and Tim btw XD), the other seems to rly be sloppy on the faces (and he's usually good too :\) AND Miss Martian has a CAPE! He forgets the cape on other occasions in this book too, but then it pops up again a panel later. :O

Plus, during the beginning, Tim talks to Supergirl who says that she's cloaking the Titans and using her mental powers to fuzz ppl's brains so they dun see the Titans as the Titans.

Supergirl?

Surely they meant Miss Martian right?

Unless Supergirl developed new abilities I'm not aware of! :O

That's the sloppiness I mean. :( I wonder if the colourist got it wrong? Cuz thx to the art, there's no discernable difference between Miss Martian, Supergirl and Wonder Girl when they're in "human" form, except Wonder Girl wears star earrings and Miss Martian has red hair. And whoever said that line was blonde, and had no earrings, so it's Supergirl.

>.>

But yus... :( It rly bothers me when mistakes like this are made. Or when characters dun look like themselves. Or when characters who should have capes suddenly dun have capes in 1 panel and then get it back the next. =_=;;;

I also never realized just how much of a popular high school clique the Teen Titans have suddenly become. XD Without Beast Boy, Raven and Cyborg, they're now "hot cool guy leader" Robin, Best Friends Forevar Blonde Popular Girls (Supergirl, Wonder Girl), cute happy girl (Miss Martian), snarky tough cool girl (Ravager) and ... Kid Devil. XD

Poor Kid Devil!

I do like how Blue Beetle kinda sees them as the cool kids tho and that he doesn't belong. :o

Paco's becoming SOOO annoying XD All he does is talk about girls now. >.>

And Brenda... needs to show up more. :( It's clear she likes Jaime and is jealous of all the attention he's getting lately. :\

I wish Blue Beetle would focus more on Jaime's regular teen life sometimes.. just cuz he has so many great regular non superhero chars around him. :)

I'm glad Batman believes Blue Beetle and is helping tho! :D

Lobo was fun, but not rly the point of htis book. XD It was more fun watching the Titans interact with Beetle and his friends. :)

I also like how Brenda and Paco helped launched the rocket and were useful :D

I'm tired of Ravager turning everything into a sexual hint tho. XD EVERY guy she meets she wants to smex. XD Cuz she's the BAD girl.

>.>

XD

Oh and I liked how Brenda, Kid Devil and Ravager agreed that dressing in belly shirts and short skirts to fight crime was such a stupid idea. XDDDD Very meta :D

Neways :) The art was rly the only issue here b/c it seemed rushed. :( But it's still a fun story. :)

Angelwings Rating: 3 out of 5 cliquey Teen Titans
Recommendation: Fans of the current Titans and of Beetle would prolly like this book, but it might hurt the eyes of non fans XD

Oh! For ppl that dunno, I have a myspace XD

http://www.myspace.com/ami_angelwings

Ph33r the pink and teh awesome music! :D

NEways

This week I got:

Batman - #668
Birds of Prey - #109
Blue Beetle - #18
Green Lantern Corps - #15
Superman - #666
Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes - #33

:O

Lots of B titled books XD

I mostly enjoyed this week :D I think I'm having more enjoyable weeks since I've dropped all the bad books and tie-ins XD

DC's stupid OMGNONSTOPEVENTS are rly killing my interest in their comics. :(

Why can't they just stop for a long while and just have interesting self contained stories for their heroes? :\ Almost everybody is crossing over into everybody else's books now!

Neways, here are my super short reviews :o

Batman - #668 - Not as interesting as the last issue. :( The set up seems to promise more and I was dissapointed that in the 2nd chapter of a 3 chapter arc, not much happened or was revealed. :\ The various Batman clone heroes come off as sort of competent here but I was kinda expecting them to be shown as a LOT more competent. :\ I hope the final issue isn't as decompressed as this one, and tells a lot more cuz this plot still has so much potential for goodness :D 3/5

Birds of Prey - #109 - A countdown/marriage tie-in. :( But it's still good! Mostly cuz Barda and Misfit totally save the story XD Why is fiction always so mean to lesbian couples? :\ The Black Canary/Oracle convo tho was a bit off :( It's basically editor vs angry fans, except the justification is ultimately "b/c I want to K!?" which is prolly the editorial justification too. >.>;; I feel so bad for Bedard tho XD He rly is makingt he best he can out of all these tie-in books that he's been given! And he's doing a decent job too :O *snugs him* 2.5/5

Blue Beetle - #18 - For some weird reason the art is not very good in this book. :( I know that there are several artists, but Albuquerque's art is usually a lot better. :\ This issue also highlights how much of a "popular kid" clique the Teen Titans have suddenly become. :o I like how Blue Beetle basically feels like he's playing with the cool kids thruout the whole book. :o Also it has one of the best scenes evar :D In general tho this issue felt more like a Teen Titans featuring Blue Beetle story. :( But it's still good, just a little dissapointing XD 3/5

Green Lantern Corps - #15 - I wish a story about Mogo vs an evil giant city planet and Kilowog fighting his Sinestro equivalent was more interesting. :\ It wasn't a BAD story at all, just.. not a lot happened. Mostly ppl run around talking a lot as fighting happens in the background. The Guardians continue to be mysterious and the Corps continues to be outgunned XD But not much ACTUALLY happened. :( It's still a good chapter of the arc tho :) 2/5

Superman - #666 - Crazy! :O This book was so confusing and weird and so NOT Superman XD But I luffed it! These 666 books are weird tho :o Are all 666 books gonna be ebil from now on? :o Will #69 books be smexy? :o Or #911 books be patriotic? <.< The ending is also good cuz it keeps it from being something that will make Superman fans angry, but the story itself is interesting and rly helps to make Superman seem like a better person and not just "some shmoe with powers". :D 4/5

Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes - #33 - The art still sucks XD But I liked everything else :) The first chapter wasn't very interesting, but this concluding one is! Also some twists! :D Which I like XD But no Supergirl. :( Still, this story doesn't follow the direction it appears to be going in and I like where it ultimately went :) 4/5

:D

Yay! XD

I guess this was more of a better than average but not super great week XD Lots of 3s and 4s :D

Neways.. I need to shower... and sleep... I have a comic convention to attend tomorrow! :D

*cheers*

Bais XD

Ami

Edit: OH! I forgot all about another comic I got XD

Green Arrow: Year One - #4 (of 6) - Stereotypes abound in this issue with the helpless Asian girl who takes care of the wounded hero and then needs to be rescued, and the ebil Dragon Lady and her meanness. >.>;; Also it's very convenient how Ollie is now Green Arrow alrdy. :\ It seems very fast XD It's also a bit slow, tho interesting, but not much happens. :( 1.5/5

JLA Classified - #38 Review

JLA Classified - #38

Synopsis: The JLA discuss Kid Amazo in the Batcave. Flash votes for destroying him since he's a cyborg and not a person. Batman believes that Kid Amazo may not necessarily be evil. Wonder Woman also thinks that since Frank is a sentient being he deserves a chance to choose his path. However, John Stewart believes that they should stop him while he's unsure of his powers but J'onn thinks they should try to reprogram him. :o Superman suggests a compromise where they observe Kid Amazo and intervene if it looks like he's heading the wrong way. o.o

Amazo and Dr. Ivo argue about what to do about Frank and Amazo decides to create an earthquake. He appears before Frank who rejects him. This hurts Amazo (much to Frank's surprise). He burrows underground and Frank follows and their fight there causes an earthquake above!

Amazo brings Frank up to see the ppl in danger of dying to show him how pathetic they are, but Frank can't bear to see ppl in danger and rescues them as well as putting an end to the earthquake! :O

He flies off and realizes how he can rly annoy his dad. XD

Batman feels that they're missing something and Wonder WOman says that they're ignoring his girlfriend who might get hurt in any conflict. Martian Manhunter appears and says that he scanned Frank's mind and the conflict in it is so much that Manhunter had to retreat and meditate :O He says that he fears that Frank might be going insane!

Review: :O

I wish I reviewed this before, cuz now I know how it turns out. XD

This issue is interesting, but the League is a bit out of character. :\ Everybody's snapping at each other, esp J'onn and Batman. They usually dun snipe this way. And J'onn being snarky and annoying is weird O_O

And Batman isn't rly being a loner as much as he's being just angry. And unshaven XD

Why are ppl so anxious to destroy Kid Amazo? :\

I DO understand NOW why the League is acting like this cuz I've read the ending of the series, and it DOES make sense for the themes that the author wanted to address, but it still is mischaracterization. :(

Also I think they try to explore too many themes at once. :o There's free will vs pre-determination, father/son relationships and what constitutes life and whether it has the right to continue living. :\ It seems like a lot, and there's still Frank's relationship with his girlfriend. :|

I like how Frank wants to be a good person, and how he's upset that when he tries to be a hero, he has to let go and listen to instinct to use his powers properly.

J'onn's scan of his mind is interesting b/c of the conflict and that Batman says something is missing. :O Wonder Woman thinks it's Sara, but that doesn't seem to be what Batman believes ^^

In general, this was a fun issue except for the slight mischaracterization where everybody is angry at each other. XD

But I like the Kid Amazo arc so far and I think it'll be very interesting to see where Frank goes from here :) (except I alrdy know XD)

Oh, there is ONE nitpick tho. >.>

Does that look like Wonder Woman to you!? She's so tiny!!! And her face is very young looking. O_O She was tiny in the last issue too, but her waist is smaller than the width of her head!!!

That can't be healthy :(

And she just looks so small in general :\

I bet Flash is eating all her food XDDD

Angelwings Rating: 4 out of 5 Crazy Kid Amazos :O
Recommendation: Worth getting for fans of the "big 7" Justice League and those who just want to read a fun out of continuity story that also tries to make you think about more philosophical issues :)

The Brave and the Bold - #6 Review

The Brave and the Bold - #6

Synopsis: The Luck Lords hold Batman in the future while killing most of the Legion of Superheroes! :O They explain that their plan was to let the Rannian forces get ahold of the book of destiny in order for them to hold the Thanagarians (who have the Absorbacon which allows them to know Rannian information) at bay, prolonging the war for thousands of years and forcing both sides to build worse and worse weapons to counter each other. The Luck Lords now can take control of those weapons including one that allows them to redesign time to their liking! :O

Brainy protests and they kill him! :(

Back in the past, Green Lantern, Adam Strange and Supergirl battle the Rannian forces and manage to escape. :o Supergirl explains that they need to find Batman b/c he'll know who the 4 ppl missing from the book of time are. :o Adam Strange says that Supergirl has to read the book of destiny in order to know where Batman is, but Green Lantern doesn't think she can handle it. However, with no choice, she does and with the power of the 3 suns of Rann, she speed reads thru the book until she finds Batman in the 31st century. :O

Green Lantern says that there's no way to get him but Adam Strange has an idea. :o

In the future, Batman is Zeta Beamed away before the Luck Lords can kill him. :D He arrives back in the past where it turns out that Adam Strange used a Green Lantern will-powered Zeta Beam to bring Batman back. :o

Adam Strange goes to talk to Supergirl but she's having a mental breakdown b/c of all the knowledge she read and is scared b/c she knows how ppl will live and die and how everybody is doomed. :(

Green Lantern shows Supergirl holograms of some ppl and ask her if she saw them at all in the book and she said she didn't. :o Lantern says then there's hope b/c they're the ones that aren't in the book of destiny and therefore nothing is written in stone. :D This helps bring Supergirl back to sanity ^^

As the Rannian forces attack, Adam Strange Zeta Beams in... The Challengers of the Unknown! :D

SEEEEE I TOLLLLDDDD YOUUUUUU!!!!

I'm so smart XDDD

Ppl should always listen to me. >.>;;

Batman explains the situation to them quickly and they run around beating up Rannians! :O

Batman says that since the Challengers were supposed to have died in a plane crash but didn't and are living on borrowed time, they aren't in the book of destiny, and therefore their actions and the consequences of those actions can't be predicted! :D

Supergirl gets stabbed by a giant Rann machine. :( Green Lantern is able to rescue her and take her into space where the power of the 3 suns will heal her. :o

The Challengers defeat the Rannians and take the book back but then the Lords of Luck appear. :O However, it turns out that it's a plan by Batman and Green Lantern to lure them out! Adam Strange is able to beam them into orbit around Oa with the Zeta Beam, leaving them for the Guardians to handle! :O

The Challengers offer to leave the book with Adam Strange to help solve the war, but Adam says it wun help since he alrdy knows the outcome. :( They leave the book with the Challengers.

Review: :D I luff this series so much! XD

Next is Power Girl and Wonder Woman which should be great too :D

Waid rly understands each character and how to write them and the art is just great :) Supergirl looks teh awesome and it's so great how she's being portrayed. I was so happy to hear Hal say that he has his "best woman" on it when talking to Adam Strange about Supergirl ^^

Some of the plot points were a little too convenient tho. :\ Like Supergirl healing quickly under the 3 suns and that trauma wiping her memory of knowledge of the future. :o That's very convenient XD

Also how they got Batman back from the future :O Apparently the Zeta Beam can transcend space and time as long as the ring is powering it? :\ That just means that they can ALWAYS travel thru time if they want to! :(

I know that Strange came up with the idea that Lantern could do it if he wished for it hard enuf cuz the ring is powered by his will, but that still doesn't make sense. The ring can't just make his wishes come true (imagine if Guy could do that!) So pumping it thru the Zeta beam still wouldn't help. :\

But time travel never makes sense nways xD So I wun worry about that.. :\

I like how Supergirl grabbed Lantern and Adam Strange and escaped with them giving them time to figure out a plan :) I liked that she took the initiative there and did what she thought would give them the best chance of survivial :) ALSO, I like how she offered herself to read the book, and had to deal with all the knowledge wreaking havoc on her brain!

Plus, somebody finally remembered that the Super chars have OTHER powers besides super strength. XD Superman never uses his powers to their maximum potential, mostly b/c writers forget he has them, or dun think of a way for him to use them creatively. :\ Having Supergirl use her powers to read the book was a great idea :)

I KNEW IT WAS THE CHALLENGERS!

:D

I'm so smart XD

I esp enjoyed when they showed up and starting smashing things! XD That was cute and fun and it's fun to see a bunch of energetic humans just running around causing havoc! :D

Adam Strange acts like the future is set in stone again, but as it's pointed out, everything the Challengers do changes history, even in small ways, so as long as they exist, there's no way to know the results of things :)

So he rly shouldn't have to worry that Rann is doomed. >.>

There are lots of scenes when Batman travels to the past about future events. :o Which hint at all sorts of things. :o None of which could come true XD Or all of them can. :\

DC's becoming OBSESSIVE about foreshadowing with their mysterious metaphorical posters and all of the stuff written in Rip Hunter's lab and stuff. :\

It's just getting rly annoying. :(

So I didn't pay much attention to that XD

Neways, this is a great ending to a very interesting arc :) I can't wait to see what Waid has in store for us next! ^^

Angelwings Rating: 5 Challengers out of 5 Unknowns :D
Recommendation: Definitely get it :) And if you're not reading this series you SHOULD! >:D

Booster Gold - #1 Review

Booster Gold - #1

Synopsis: Booster Gold beats up the Royal Flush Gang in the present as he thinks of his past and how he started out as a football player in the future but was caught for betting on his own games and throwing them. As a janitor in a museum of superhero artefacts, he steals equipment that would allow him to become a superhero and then travelled to the past to make a name for himself. He joined the Justice League for a time and became friends with Blue Beetle. He also talks about 52 and how he saved the 52 Earths at the end from Mr. Mind. :o

The JLA show up and are critical of Booster but Batman and Superman believe he deserves a chance and gives him a week to prove himself worthy of joining the JLA. :o

Booster saves many ppl and is a true hero, telling Skeets that he doesn't need his future knowledge of events to "cheat" nemore b/c he doesn't want fame but to help. ^^

He goes home and finds Supernova playing Xbox. XD He tells Supernova to do something useful with the suit but Supernova just wants to play video games. :o

Suddenly Rip Hunter shows up and tells Booster he has to keep a low profile and he needs Boosters help to fix blips in the timeline that were caused by Superboy Prime and Mr. Mind and new villains who are out to alter the timeline to their liking. :O

They vanish, leaving Supernova behind. :o But a mysterious figure approaches him from behind and knocks him out, taking his costume! :O

Rip upgrades Booster and Skeets and tells Booster that somebody is targetting heroes pasts trying to erase them from history. :O They go back to WW3 where Booster stops a plane that Black Adam ran into from falling and rescues ppl on board including the future wife of Supernova (who is Booster's ancestor). :O

Rip says that Booster is perfect for this mission b/c ppl think he's a loser and therefore he's off the radar enuf to sneak around and save ppl. :O

Booster refuses however and leaves. He arrives at the JLA headquarters where Superman presents him with his membership into the JLA! :O However, Booster sees the certificate as a death certificate for Green Lantern and realizes that if he doesn't act his friends will die. He refuses admission and acts like a jerk on purpose to burn his bridges and make ppl hate him. :(

While leaving and kicking himself, he saves a kid from being crushed by a bridge and tells him to tell ppl Superman saved him XD

Meanwhile in the past, while Sinestro is still a Green Lantern, the ebil person who knocked out Supernova, is now wearing the Supernova costume and tells Sinestro he has to talk to him about the future :O

Booster arrives at Rip's lab and tells him that he'll help on the condition that Rip helps him prevent the death of Blue Beetle! :D

Review: :D I rly liked this issue! XDDD It was a great follow up to Booster's adventures in 52 and also helped set up a Countdown/Amazons Attack free environment for Booster to have adventures in since he'll be running around time! :D

It's also fun how Johns makes fun of his own contributions to the screwed upness of the DCU? Like how it's illogical that Superboy punching the magic wall can cause problems XD But I also dun rly like that? Cuz whenever writers "hang a lantern" on a problem they're just reminding readers and viewers how stupid it is in the first place. :(

But it was a fun throwaway line neways XD

Time travel never makes sense tho. :\ If Rip's job is to repair the timeline from effects by time travellers and that "non interference from the natural course of events" is essential and that the timeline must be "restored" from effects of time travellers, where does Booster Gold fit into this? Or Captain Atom? Or Monarch? Or Extant? Or Parallax? Or the Legion of Superheroes?

Why is it okay for Booster to travel back in time and affect events but not others? Is it only heroes who are allowed to screw things around? :\

If you argue that Booster and the LoS' time travel antics are "supposed" to happen, then why aren't the villains' antics "supposed" to happen? Shouldn't everything that happens be pre-destined if time and events are alrdy written? If not, then every act of time travel should be fixed! Either "destiny" is written INCLUDING time travel, or time travel is anomalous and all instances are changing "destiny" and therefore need to be stopped. :\

This is why I never write time travel into my stories XD

But I still luff this story regardless. I luff all time travel stories xD I just dun think too hard about them. :o

Black Canary is SO NOT leader of the Justice League! This just proves again that a) nobody takes it srsly and b) Meltzer did it to keep up with JSA. :\

It seems like there's absolutely no editorial control or mandate to make sure that she's protrayed as a leader at all! :\

She never made sense as one either. :(

And Batman is the one who makes the decision to allow Booster a chance to join even tho the others protest. I thought Canary was the leader? Shouldn't she be the one who makes the decision or at least leads the discussion?

Batman's just like "he gets a chance, dun like it? Tough!"

And then SUPERMAN is the one who presents the certificate (they have certificates!? XD) to Booster Gold while Canary stands in the background. :\

*sighs*

They should just drop the Charade and say that Batman is the leader behind the scenes and Superman is the public face of the JLA, and that's that... since that's EXACTLY HOW IT IS NEWAYS!

I hate how the JLA is becoming less and less like a group of heroes who get together to save the world, and more like a club. :\ They have little membership certificates and ceremonies to present ppl with them, and according to SUperman in Amazons Attack they only help ppl in their club (or they give priority to them). =_=;;

I rly preferred when they weren't just some club and when they actually got together to FIGHT VILLAINS instead of sitting around being cute with each other. >.>;;;

I think Batman might suspect that Booster is lying when he acts like a jerk tho? He can always tell that ppl are lying right? :o

I *DO* like that Superman points out that Booster tried to fight Doomsday (albeit very briefly XD) when Superman was knocked down. :\ Also that Batman gives Booster credit for helping against Brother Eye (esp since Batman didn't ask for his help and he brought Jaime along to find Brother Eye :) ) but Black Canary acts like this is news to her. But... SHE WAS THERE! So was Black Lightning and Hal Jordan! Shouldn't all 3 of them also praise Booster for helping them against Brother Eye!? :\

Wtf >.>;;;

OH OH OH OH

SKEETS SAID THAT BOOSTER GOLD WAS TEH AWESOME!!!

TEH

AWESOME!!!

That is teh awesome! XD

:D

Too bad it's a common phrase :( Now if only DC can fit "smex" into a story! XD

I vote for Teen Titans XD Somebody can say "I want to smex him!" :D Or something >.>

"What's Cassie and Kara doing?"

"Oh they're smexing... that's all" XD

<.<

>.>

*whistles innocently*

I think that Booster is going to be wrong that everybody thinks he's a loser. Rip only said that HISTORY remembers him as one, he didn't say that ppl dun! I think that each person that Booster rescues will add up and at the end he'll realize that he's touched a LOT of lives and THEY all remember him even if he's not in newspapers or history books :)

I think that's the best reward for Booster at the very end :)

They weren't very clear about what the change in history was that caused the plane to crash tho. :o They said that Black Adam flew into it during his rampage in WW3 but this was supposed to be something that was CAUSED in an attempt to wipe out Booster Gold (I thought that he was supposed to be safe b/c nobody knew or cared about him tho!). If that's so, then did somebody redirect Black Adam? Did they redirect the plane? Otherwise Black Adam would have smashed into the plane neways and have killed Booster Gold's ancestor. :\

It's kinda ambiguous tho? Like that Skeets says that Booster's supposed to save the plane, and that Rip was just making sure that his ancestor survived and nobody else could alter that timeline? But... so it's a predestination paradox? :\

*sighs*

This is why I HATE TIME TRAVEL!!!!

XDDD

Poor Supernova! I hope he gets his costume back! Who is that ebil person :( I hope it's not Extant or something XD

He's featured for some bizarre reason in one of the timestream visions so maybe it is? :\

It's odd how much the Rip and Booster timestream thing was like Archer and that guy from the future's timestream meeting in Enterprise with all the historical events flying past them. :O

Why does DC enjoy taunting us with the prospect of Beetle returning (this is the third time at least that they've done it) when we know he's not going to return b/c they hate us? XD

Booster will get him back but then he'll die again, or he'll have to vanish for the good of the timestream. :\

Beetle's death is a lot like the death of most beloveds of time travellers and Hitler: HISTORY WILL NOT BE DENIED!

For some reason in fiction, you're not allowed to go back in time to save your loved one. S/he's DOOMED TO DIE, no matter what you do. Same with Hitler. You can't get rid of him and you can never prevent WW2. :\

Hitler and dead loved ones are eternal when it comes to time travel >.>;;

Poor Ted. :(

But Jason Todd is back! And everybody was just CRYING for that to happen! XD

Neways!

I can't wait for more Booster Gold vs the Timestream adventures! ^^ I like that he's finally a real actual hero without the wanting fame and stuff and I think the idea of him running around time correcting things is a good one. :D Esp that right now, the current timeline is both confusing and annoying, it's prolly best that he's not involved in it XD

Angelwings Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Paradoxical Booster Golds! XD
Recommendation: Teh Awesome! GO GET IT! >:O

Week of August 15, 2007 Super Short Reviews :o

Mrawr...

I keep putting my comic reading and reviewing off lately... :\ I guess I'm feeling a little burnt out.. or bored... or mad at Dan Didio.. or something XD

Neways :O This week I got:

The Brave and the Bold - #6
Checkmate - #17
JLA Classified - #41
Welcome to Tranquility - #9

:D

I also plan on getting Booster Gold but I wasn't sure when I was at the store :\ The reviews of it seem good tho so I'll get it tomorrow XD

I spend too much money XDDD

>.>;;

I went on a GIGANTIC SHOPPING SPREE this month and... I should rly stop buying clothes xD

But I still need shoes :(

More shoes >.>;;

<.<;;

NEWAYS

Here are my super short reviews :)

The Brave and the Bold - #6 - A great ending to a great beginning arc for this series :D All of the heroes come off looking good, and even tho things get a little confusing, it's rly fun and great and stuffs! Also, I WAS SO RIGHT ABOUT MY PREDICTION BEFORE! ^_^ Hehehehe :D I'm smart! XD Once my prediction came true the book rly started becoming super energetic and more fun :D 5/5

Checkmate - #17 - An interesting look at the defensive abilities of the Checkmate castle and the man who runs them! :O I rly enjoyed this issue too b/c I thought it told an innovative story and gave us some insight into a new character and set up interesting stuff for the future :) As usual, Checkmate shows us a side of the DCU we rarely see, and makes it worth our while ^^ 4/5

JLA Classified - #41 - This arc has been very uneven and the final chapter only hammers that home. :\ Despite all of the philosophical set up in the previous issue, only one or two points actually hit home and in fact a lot more questions were raised than answered here. :O However the ending is rly rly well done and I wish they'd follow up on it b/c it showed us a side of the league that we usually only see in Batman. :O 3.5/5

Welcome to Tranquility - #9 - This 2nd arc is shaping up to be another good one, and I'm glad that they're keeping with continuity and addressing stuff that was in the first arc rather than moving along and ignoring a major thing that could easily be ignored. :) And the backup story was rly good too and made us care about another new character :) That's what I like about this book tho, that it makes us care about characters we've never heard of before, and that they all seem oddly familiar :) ALSO my favourite Gen 13 character Freefall makes a guest appearance! :3 YAY! 4.5/5

YAY FOR GOOD BOOKS THIS WEEK :D

I regret giving Black Adam a 3.5/5 btw.. :( On 2nd thought it wasn't that good at all, and rather gross. :( It WAS interesting, but at the same time I dun rly like what they've done to Black Adam! I think that after WW3, I kinda just discarded Black Adam from my consciousness as not being the same character, and so I dun feel that bad that he's basically hit rock bottom for characterization now. :\

NEWAYS :O

Hopefully I can get Booster Gold tomorrow and review that :D

I'm going to bed =_=;;

Bai :D

Green Lantern - #22 Review

Green Lantern - #22

Synopsis: The Guardians watch the war and worry about the possiblity of Mogo losing and what that would mean for their war effort. :\

On Qward, Hal and Parallax fight and Parallax tries to instill Hal with fear about what his father might have said before he died. :o

Hal asks where Guy and John are but Parallax doesn't say. Suddenly a large force of Sinestro Corps members led by Amon-Sur join the battle to overwhelm Hal but he's rescued by the Lost Lanterns (the ones that the original Parallax supposedly killed but came back)!

On the Moon, Superboy Prime watches Earth contemptuously.

In the new Warworld, Cyborg explains to the Anti-Monitor that the only thing he's ever wanted to do is to die, but b/c of the accident that transformed him originally, he can't die. Anti-Monitor promises that if he does everything that he wants, he'll kill Cyborg. :o

The Lost Lanterns are actually not here to help Hal but to recover Ion, but they realize that Ion and Kyle are no longer the same ppl! :O Ion attempts to exploit their fears and actually does to one of them and kills him!

One of the Lanterns tries to kill Parallax for that and her ring shuts off. :\

The Lanterns discover some tunnels under the planet and retreat there where they find a Citadel and the words "Fear Infects" carved all over the walls. :O

They locate Ion and go to save him, but Hal locates Guy and John and wants to save them. Two other Lanterns decide to go with Hal to help while the rest head off.

However, they run into Lyssa Drak, the alien Sinestro Corps member who's been telling all the Sinestro Corps stories in recent issues! :O She says she's the keeper of the book of Parallax and that she knows fear like nobody else. O_O;; Behing her Guy is chained up in yellow chains!

Review: The Guardians SUCK!

SUCK SUCK SUCK

wtf >.>

It's WAR! What are the Lanterns SUPPOSED to do? Just die? :O

Trying to shoot an enemy in the head during war isn't MURDER, at least not in cold blood. :\ Esp when he's killing people!

Should police officers' guns shut off if they attempt to shoot somebody with them?

=_=;;

Did they implement this policy b/c of Hal going crazy as Parallax before? :\

Why does Kyle suddenly grow a million teeth and have an alien mouth? :O That didn't happen (to my knowledge) when Hal became Parallax originally.... did it?

Of course that's what happens when you write your stories backwards and you belatedly add a plot point like Parallax being a parasite that took over Hal. XD

I know that Hal fans and others will disagree with me, but I dun like stripping Hal of all responsibility when it comes to Parallax. :\ Now Parallax is just this thing that completely takes you over!

Kyle didn't even feel "great fear" like Hal with the destruction of Coast City. He just felt a little fear. And he became Parallax. So rly, nebody can! So Hal's NOT AT FAULT AT ALL. Is basically what's going on, b/c Kyle isn't. He's treated as a helpless person trapped in his own body taken over by an entity (kinda like what happens every other episode in Star Trek! XD)

And having the Lanterns go "OMG KYLE IS KILLING PPL" and then Hal saying "No it's Parallax!" is just the set up to completely absolve Hal of everything. :\

I munno :( It just seems like they're trying to restore Hal's polish by making everybody around him look worse.

But I still like this story! :D

It just was made too obvious by that one line about Kyle Rayner killing ppl that this is the story's way of "teaching" the Lost Lanterns to like and respect Hal. :o

And honestly, I like the idea that there are Lanterns that dislike Hal, or that distrust him.

It made it more interesting :\

I rly like what Johns did with Cyborg Superman tho and how he suddenly has such a good reason to do the things he does. :) You could even wonder if he's had a death wish all along and that's why he keeps trying to get Green Lantern and Superman into situations to destroy him! :O

I feel bad for him now. :( It must be hard to be trapped the way he is, as an entity that can take over metallic and electronic constructs, but immortal. :\ Esp since he mourns the death of his wife (which he blames on Superman XD) and prolly wants to join her. ;-;

Poor Cyborg!

I wonder what Superboy Prime is going to do? :O

What are they going to do with the Ion Entity? :o I still find that weird. :( Ion's like the anti-Parallax now? Except that he doesn't control at all. :O I liked the idea that Kyle Rayner was Ion for non-Guardian-planned reasons tho. :\ That this was just something special about him that brought out inner power. And also the Jade/Starheart stuff!

:(

But that's just me. :(

I hope that they manage to free Kyle soon tho or he frees himself, so that he can participate in the war!

How did Guy and John get captured so easily? And why would yellow chains hold them unless they're fearful? Those two wouldn't give into fear that easily!

Why are all the Lanterns giving into fear so easily lately? Esp just by being talked to! The bad guys are basically just like "you suck!" and then they're like "omg maybe I do suck!" And then they get killed by yellow stuffs :O

I would just let the ring make for me some green ear plugs and fight on! >:D

I hope that there's a distinction between overcoming fear and ignoring fear. B/c ignoring fear is bad. :\ Everybody has fear and ignoring that it exists, or just pushing your fears away or repressing is unhealthy and I would think that might be getting Lanterns killed?

But overcoming it means coming to terms with the things you hate and are afraid of, and being able to handle them even tho you still feel them! So you can still FEEL fear, but it doesn't control you. But fear is important. :\ If we weren't AFRAID of things, we'd all be dying in record numbers!

It's just important not to let it control you. *nods*

Lyssa Drak is another example of the "hot alien woman". :\ Isn't it convenient that the women of other planets "measure up" to Earth standards? XD It's become to the point (mebbe starting with Star Trek) that the skin colour difference is just like.. a fetish. Like how some ppl seem to have the green Orion slavegirl fetish. o_O

And she's not wearing nething!

I'd say that this is cuz she's ebil, but the Lantern women dun wear a lot either. :(

Speaking of that. When are we gonna have a female Earth Green Lantern? XD And can she plz not wear a super sexy outfit? XD

I notice that the female Lanterns show off a lot of skin while the male Lanterns are all covered. :o

It's actually strange tho. :o Outside of Lyssa, most of the Sinestro Corps member women ARE covered up (even tho they all appear to still look human XD)

Is this implying something? :O

>.>

NEWAYS!

I rly like this story tho :D And I think it's still very exciting and stuffs, and I can't wait to read more XD I'm glad there's SOMETHING going on in the DCU that I like XD

Angelwings Rating: 4 Homicidal Superboy Primes out of 5 Suicidal Cyborg Supermen
Recommendation: If you're following the Sinestro War you should definitely get this one :)

Green Arrow: Year One - #3 (of 6) Review

Green Arrow: Year One - #3 (of 6)

Synopsis: Ollie shoots the gunner on the plane with an arrow and he falls, spraying the plane with bullets! :O It goes down on top of a mountain. :O

Ollie climbs it and realizes it's a dormant volcano and inside is a lush vast field of poppies. :O He takes the clothing from the injured ppl on the plane and finds a young pregnant Asian girl nearby who tells him that her ppl were kidnapped and forced to work in the poppy fields by Chien Na Wei (China White as Ollie hears).

Suddenly she arrives with guards but Ollie hides before they see him. :O They question the girl but get nothing. Hackett, Ollie's former servant is with her. :O

China kills the ppl on the plane instead of giving them help.

Hackett grabs a gun and goes to hunt for the mysterious person who shot down the plane. :O Ollie manages to shoot him in the arm and pin him to a tree. :O They talk about things and Hackett explains that Chien is the Queen of the Pacific Rim and supplies most of the heroin for the entire US West Coast and the other Pacific countries. :O He says she's death incarnate.

Hackett says that she'll kill him if she finds out that Ollie is still alive since he said that he killed him, and asks Ollie to kill him now instead of leaving him for Chien. :O

Ollie hesitates at that and Hackett takes the chance to shoot him! :O He pulls himself out of the tree but Ollie shoots him in the hand!

He fires a rocket launcher in retaliation and hits near Ollie! However a tree falls on him! :\

Ollie tries to get up but finds that his bone has shattered thru his skin in his arm! He faints from his injuries as he hears Hackett recovering. :(

Review: :O Why is it that all Batman and Green Arrow stories from their past seem to involve the exotic far east, and stereotypes of the dragon lady and the submissive Asian slave girl that needs help. :\

It's very depressing. Esp for an Asian girl to see characters like this as the most common portrayal of us. :(

There are always exceptions (Grace) but exceptions only say that "this is the exception, the norm is such". :|

Plus they turned Batgirl into a dragon lady too and then into somebody who can't fight at all. :(

Chien is nothing but another "scary Asian woman" who is ruthless, evil and emasculates and frightens men.

I get this annoying feeling that Ollie will wake up bandaged lying naked in her bed and she'll try to convince/seduce him to join her with his wealth and then try to kill him with some fancy ancient sword or something >.>;;;

Oh and pregnant helpless Asian girl!

WHO SPEAKS ENGLISH! XD

She says that she's native to the ppl on this island and that Chien and her ppl came to it and enslaved them.

So... why does she speak English? XD

For that matter why does Chien speak English considering that Hackett (from his extensive background) prolly speaks Chinese, and her men would likely speak Chinese, and if she's as evil and ruthless and demanding as they say she is, why would she lower herself to speaking something that's not her natural tongue instead of making everybody around her speak the language she wants?

I know it's just so that Ollie can hear the plot, but wouldn't it be more interesting if he couldn't? And less contrived XD

Hackett is like.. invincible XD He should be dead! XD

I thought actually that the tree falling on him was one of those "hero cop out kills" where the bad guy dies but it's not b/c of the hero's direct actions.

It's always following the "I can't take a life" thing.

So it's funny that Hackett's NOT dead!

I wonder if he'll "see the error of his ways" and help Ollie free the ppl later (since he's alrdy shown to not have the stomach for doing bad things) or if he'll die in that hero cop out way I just said fighting Ollie in a rematch. XD

I am so not impressed by the "white guy saves the helpless backward Asian villagers and helps the pregnant beautiful but oh so helpless Asian girl" trope. =_=;;

I think it'd be great if Ollie tried to play Robin Hood here but things aren't simple like a Robin Hood movie and the girl doesn't fall in love with him at the end? :O

That might teach him some things XD Cuz I think right now he's gone from spoiled rich kid wanting to be a hero to spoiled rich kid who thinks he IS a hero and that being stranded on an island for a few weeks makes him super bad. XD

At least the issues are coming out every 2 weeks like they promised! :)

I hope the series breaks some stereotypes. XD

Angelwings Rating: 3 out of 5 Dragon Lady Tropes
Recommendation: It's pretty generic, but if you're a Green Arrow fan you might be interested :)

Black Adam: The Dark Age - #1 (of 6) Review

Black Adam: The Dark Age - #1 (of 6)

Synopsis: In a sekrit base near the border of Kahndaq, Black Adam (in human form) is being beaten up by his loyalists b/c he wants to appear mishapen enuf to avoid detection. :o

Elsewhere, the JSA track down what appears to be a Black Adam sighting and finds townsfolk hanging who they think is Black Adam! :O Atom Smasher rescues him but it turns out not to be Black Adam after all >.>

At the Kahndaq border checkpoint, Black Adam makes it thru after giving an angry sob story about how Black Adam mutilated him and murdered his family. :o

At the tomb of Isis and Osiris, Black Adam and his men kill the UN peacekeepers there and unseal the remains of Isis. :o However, more troops arrive and most of his men give their lives to allow Black Adam to escape.

The JSA arrive and find that Black Adam has been there but that the troops that attacked were not UN and that there are no bullet casings at the scene even tho Black Adam's men were killed by guns :O

They wonder why Black Adam stole Isis' body while Atom Smasher discovers a ring on a corpse but keeps the discovery to himself.

In the Himalayas, Black Adam eats the corpse of the last of his men who offered it to him (EW). >.>;; He then finds his way to a Lazarus pit and puts Isis' bones inside and she comes out of it alive! :O

Review: Gross >.>

Beatings, massacres, hauling around corpses and cannibalism. :(

Isis' corpse seemed to have decomposed rly fast tho :O This is RIGHT after 52 apparently, so she hasn't been dead for very long! Why is she basically a husk? :\

I feel so bad for Black Adam! He was my favourite char in 52 and now he's all... savage like. :( But then it's like a "how the mighty have fallen" thing? :\

Still :(

How DOES the Lazarus Pit work? :o Batman said that he didn't want to put Jason Todd in it b/c with the brain trauma, he might not come out sane.

But putting in the bones of Isis (one by one no less) works? And it just sorts itself out in the pool? :o

STILL SO GROSS

ick ick ick

What was the ring that Atom Smasher found? :O Was it something that Osiris was wearing? :o

Isis seems to have her hand so it wasn't her corpse's hand that he found right?

And mysterious mercenary ppls! :O

How did the border patrol ppl get such up to date pictures of Teth-Adam in his non super form?

Black Adam NEVER left his regular form, and only showed it to the public briefly in 52, and he was wearing ancient egyptian clothes when he did it. But here they have profile pictures of him and he's wearing regular clothes and stuff. :o

Where'd they get those pictures? :O

Tho wasn't he a regular human or something? Like an archeologist? :( I dunno what Black Adam's origin story is nemore. :(

I feel more tragedy coming tho and another death of Isis. :(

*sighs* >.>

Dun ppl who come out of the Lazarus Pit immediately go crazy for a short period of time? Or was that just the Batman Animated Series pits? XD

Neways.. other than the grossness, this was very interesting :O

But I wish we'd see MORE of the DCU Earth, and how life is after WW3 and maybe the effects on it's politics :D

I'm just curious xD

Neways, this is a good start to the series! I was worried about how it might be but it seems okay for now :) At least this issue is good XD But I feel bad that Black Adam is no longer Black Adam after giving his powers to Mary Marvel. ;-;

*shakes head sadly*

This is one of those things tho, like my sister always says about questionable comic decisions (various stuff involving Spiderman, Amazons Attack, etc) "was it rly necessary?"

Cuz things were pretty good before. :( I liked Black Adam in his old incarnation and I guess until Final Crisis is over, he's not gonna be Black Adam nemore. :\

It just seems like one of those things that they'll retcon in a year or so. :(

I just think that the Black Adam coming out of 52 (before he went crazy) had LOTS of great stories in him and could have been a rly great contributor to the DCU :)

But then he would single handedly win the Amazon War cuz he wouldn't slack off like Superman XD

Neways, this is a promising start to this mini series and I can't wait to see where it goes! :)

Angelwings Rating: 3.5 grossnesses out of 5 regular Black Adams
Recommendation: If you're a BlacK Adam fan *looks at DJ* or you're curious about what happened to him after 52, this might be a good series to read :)

Batman - #667 Review

Batman - #667

Synopsis: A Mysterious Person™ with a black glove tortures somebody hanging on a roulette wheel while talking about how The Black Glove provides excellent gambling opportunities for ppl. :o

Batman and Robin land in the Batplane on a secluded island where they are greeted by The First Knight, who is an English Batman (and the son of the original Knight that Batman knew) XD The Knight explains that the owner of the Island, John Mayhew, invited them to the island b/c they're the former members (or related to) the International Club of Heroes, but nobody's there.

Inside, the various heroes: Legionnary (from Italy), Gaucho (from Argentina), Musketeer (from France), Wingman (from Sweden), Ranger (from Australia) and Man of Bats (Native American) gather and eat food and brag to each other about how they used to be and how they are now. :o

Musketeer tells a story about how by accident, he killed a criminal and was arrested by Batman, but he wrote a book in jail and is now a millionaire. :O Wingman shows up in a pseudo-Batman robo costume, claiming that he came up with the persona a year before Batman XD

We're told that John Mayhew was a famous billionaire who didn't like to do stuff himself, and formed his own super team by collecting various Batman types all over the world to form the Internation Club of Heroes many years ago. They didn't last half an hour. :o

The First Knight introduces Robin to his sidekick, The Squire. :)

They finally reach the dining room where the heroes are assembled :D

A tv screen turns on and they see John's face but in fact it's not him but a mask MADE from his face (ew) and the bad guy underneath explains that John is dead and wonders if the world's greatest crimesolvers can solve the murder or will they die one by one :O

Batman tells everybody to find the room as they all split up. Outside the Batplane and boats and other vehicles that the heroes used to get here are destroyed. :O

The Legionnary finds a surveillance room but is stabbed from behind with 17 knives just like Caeser was! :O He manages to hit the murderer before dying. :(

The mysterious Black Glove watches all this and says that evil is winning and tells ppl to place their bets.

Review: :O Lots of tropes! XD

1) The Mysterious Person watching all of this

2) The Gambling Ring for ppl who are bored of Regular Sport and enjoy seeing Life and Death Games

3) The group of strange and washed up heroes reuniting

4) One person in the group being overweight and useless now, One person having spent time in jail, One person adapting to a darker modern age (Ranger becoming Dark Ranger), One person who is jealous of the hero's success

5) The invitation by a rich recluse to a mysterious dinner in a secluded mansion

6) The murder mystery

7) The serial killer killing the heroes with "fitting" themes

And yet this is a rly rly great story! :D

Possibly b/c Morrison isn't trying to BREAK cliches here, he's just using them but doing them rly well :) Which I think is great! There's a reason these stories are so classic, and that's b/c they WORK. Being different is not necessarily better XD And I love what he's done here :)

Usually I hate the "pull a story out of the Silver Age" thing that DC is doing lately but Morrison manages to make it very interesting :)

I WOULD have liked it if there was either better dialogue or some sort of narration box to tell us who's who. :( I had to wiki the names and that was hard b/c there's no entry for International Club of Heroes (it's under Global Guardians).

That's how obscure the original story is I guess XD

But it's explained well enuf and I like how ppl have aged but still kinda keep in touch (apparently Alfred mails them xmas cards according to another comic xD)

Reunions are geneuinly fun tho esp with all these lesser heroes XD

The Legionnary was a bit boring and I feel bad that he died first and never rly got to show that he's still useful. But that's the great thing about these stories, you never know who will be killed!

Except for Batman. :\

I bet you they'll be a fake Batman death at some point tho, where they THINK Batman is dead but he's not xD

I also hope that we get to see why these heroes are considered the "greatest crimebusters". Like that they're not all just cheap Batman knockoffs but they also all have good detective skills :3

Wingman is hilarious XD I luff how he does the "I came up with it before Batman" thing. XD Like sometimes you hear ppl say "oh I thought of the Matrix before the Matrix came out!"

It could be true XD But it sounds silly after the fact :(

I wonder why Nightwing didn't come tho since apparently ppl who grew up but were sidekicks back then are invited? :\

I guess Nightwing is too busy readying himself to be killed by Dan Didio XD

Neways! :D

I find this very interesting :) And I'm glad that Morrison used a little known group that had history with Batman to do this with and decided to use good writing to make the minor characters ppl we'd care about if they died, rather than something like Max Lord killing the JLI.

Oh wait...

XDD

But yus...

MURDER MYSTERY! :D

I can't wait for more! XD

Oh and the cover for the final issue of the arc looks so great! :D That's SUCH a heroic cover :)

Angelwings Rating: 5 out of 5 various Batmen! xD
Recommendation: Get! :D GET GET GET >:D Esp if you like murder mysteries!

Week of August 8, 2007 Super Short Reviews :3

Mrow >.>

It's hard to stay positive lately XD

Esp since I'm so annoyed at the quality of DC comics lately >:O

*sighs*

I'm okay XD

Rly >.>

Neways! I'm sorry for being so late :(

This week I got 4 comics :)

Batman - #667
Black Adam - #1 (of 6)
Green Arrow: Year One - #3 (of 6)
Green Lantern - #22

I was pleasently surprised by all 4 of them I think :) Mostly >.>

It's rare that I get 4 comics that are all pretty good, so that makes me happy XD

I just wish that I wasn't avoiding so many issues now b/c I can't stand Countdown and Amazons Attack :(

Honestly with Countdown, IGN says it's getting better (at least, one person there says that the other doesn't XD), but I think even if it becomes super awesome later on, that's just not good enuf for a 52 issue weekly series. :\

And as I said, I dun wanna encourage DC to keep doing these 52 week stories and crossovers. :(

Neways! Onto the Super Short Reviews :)

Batman - #667 - SUPER GOOD! :O I was shocked cuz I'm not Grant Morrison's biggest fan, esp on his Batman run, but this one was super great! XD And it even involved bringing back some annoying Silver Age history that I never heard about before XD But he did it rly well! And I luff the dialogue and the set up and everything :D It's a little cliched since it's got the whole "invited to a secluded mansion for a murder mystery" thing but it's done super well! I'm pleased :D 5/5

Black Adam - #1 (of 6) - A bit gross. :( Black Adam eats people and gets beaten up and runs around with the bones of Isis. :( But it's also interesting :O This is the story that should have been in Countdown. :\ I enjoyed it mostly and I hope that we get to learn more about Black Adam's character after WW3 now and how he feels about things and stuff :) I just fear that there's more Isis-related tragedy prepared for his life :( 3.5/5

Green Arrow: Year One - #3 (of 6) - Thankfully this issue didn't go the way I thought it would XD But it does suffer from some contrived plotting. :( There are coincidences abound, and the usual "Dragon Lady" stereotype that seems to be in every Green Arrow and Batman "past" story. :( *sighs* I wish there'd be some Asian female villains that aren't just Dragon Lady stereotypes. :( 3/5

Green Lantern - #22 - This issue made me wonder if turning Kyle into Parallax was done to make Kyle more like Hal, and have the GLs realize that it's not Hal's fault he was evil. :\ Cuz it has one line of dialogue that rly stuck out and it makes me feel bad that they feel that Kyle's char needs to be dragged thru the mud so that Hal doesn't look bad for being Parallax. :( Still, I'm rly enjoying this arc and I luff how there's a real feel of panic and desperation among the heroes :D I can't wait for the next chapter! :) 4/5

:)

Yub yub... that's it for this week XD I'll put the longer reviews up soon! :D

Also!

I was re-reading my House of M issues a couple of nights ago and I was wondering if nebody would be interested if I did a review of them? :O

:)

See you soon! XD

Ami

Delay :(

My Super Short Reviews and other reviews will be up tomorrow :)

Sorry about the delay, I've just been sorta occupied with other stuff lately :(

Detective Comics - #835 Review

Detective Comics - #835

Synopsis: Professor Jonathan Crane a.k.a. The Scarecrow is locked up in Arkham and is being bullied around b/c ppl think he's just a weakling without his fear gas. :o

However, he studied fear for a long time before becoming the Scarecrow and the gas is just a tool for him, and he intends to prove it. :O

Meanwhile, in Wayne Manor, Bruce is readying to go out on a date and Alfred and Robin assure him that things will be fine and that he needs a life. :)

In Arkham, guards are alerted as prisoners are screaming! :O It turns out that the two ppl who bullied Crane have killed themselves! One killed himself by swallowing rope when he found he couldn't find a place to hang himself :(

They find Scarecrow in his cell but he has his mask on and a cloak and is twirling a card on a string with a crow on one side and a cage on the other so that when he spins it fast it looks like the crow is in the cage. :O He explains that the air ducts carry his voice and he was able to say horrifying things to the other 2 criminals to make them kill themselves! :O

He tells the guards that he's going to turn himself into a flock of crows and escape and he does! :O

In a penthouse restaurant, Bruce's date Kay talks about how she loves Gotham and hopes that one day it'll be cleaned up and a nice place again. :D Bruce tries to ignore the Bat Signal until Robin sends him a text msg on his cell saying that they need him. :O He genuinely apologizes to Kay. :)

Batman arrives at Arkham and it's explained to him that one of the criminals was killed b/c he tried to block out Crane's words so hard he pushed his fingers into his brain! :O He says that the second one was killed swallowing his own intestines o_O

He said that there's been four other suicide attempts as well and that Crane hypnotized the guards into believing he was a flock of crows and then letting him out. :o Afterwards they stuffed their clothes with straw and burnt themselves to death! :(

Batman and Robin go to find and stop Scarecrow and the other villains who are locked up: Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn and the Great White Shark scream at Batman about how horrible Crane was and what he said, and that if Batman catches him, not to bring him back to Arkham! :O

Batman and Robin stake out the chemical plants waiting for Crane to hit them and try to remake his fear gas, but he doesn't come. :o

All over Gotham horrific and frightening murders occur! :O In one instance, Scarecrow knifes a young couple at the movies :O In another he hides as a sack of clothes in a woman's room and kills her as she wakes from her sleep knowing that she has a childhood fear of shadows in her bedroom! :(

In the morning, Kay talks to Bruce about how scary he is but Bruce tells her not to be scared and that if she gives into fear, Scarecrow wins.

She refuses to leave Gotham City tho b/c she believes in it. :) Alfred suggests that she could stay in Wayne Manor but Batman thinks that would make it hard for him to pursue his nocturnal activities with Robin (XDDDD). >.>;;

Robin gets worried about Batman's behaviour as the spree continues. Batman begins to get rougher with the criminals, reverting back to his scarier meaner days, using fear as a weapon, threatening to cut ppl's limbs off with a buzzsaw (tho he's bluffing). Robin knows that it's not just Batman trying to get into Crane's head, but that he's upset that he doesn't know Scarecrow's motives or way of thinking nemore, and he's taking it out on the criminals he catches :(

Batman and Robin get a lead on Scarecrow and enter the building but find that the dummy which Batman threw a batarang at is a fake. :o Robin notes that if that was rly Crane, Batman would have killed him with the batarang throw. :O

All over town scarecrows are being found in public and private places. :O Batman realizes that Scarecrow is trying to scare Gotham and to show that he can be at any place at any time. :|

Kay and her friends are having lunch at a diner and talking about how scared they are. Bruce calls Kay and sees if she's okay. He tells her she's safe in the day time and reminds her that Batman and Robin are out there too. :D

Suddenly a scream breaks up their conversation and Kay goes to find her friends who went to the restroom. In the restroom is a dead woman dressed up like a scarecrow hanging from the ceiling! :O She says that Bruce is wrong, he strikes during the daytime too!

Review: O_O;;

*turns on all the lights in the house*

Scary! o_O

Very scary :(

But a good kind of scary :D The kind that you dun rly read much of in the Batman stories nemore. :( It's nice to have a story that's actually kinda creepy and disturbing, but not in the OMGSUPERGROSS way. It's not that we SAW nething gross, it's that what's happening is very disturbing. :(

And we genuinely feel for Batman too as ppl are randomly being murdered but worse yet, they're scared, no longer feeling safe or protected by Batman.

Which is also the point.

The writing is rly good and I like how it's explained that Scarecrow was defeated by somebody who used fear better than him, Batman. And this is rly his way of reclaiming fear. Showing that he knows fear better than Batman and can use it better.

In many ways, he's usurped Batman's position and this upsets him. :o

I hope Kay doesn't die tho. :( I'd like for Batman to have a recurring female friend for once... somebody who doesn't die or get traumatized and move away. :\

At least for a while. :|

A lot of women are killed tho XD Men too, but when it comes to the "innocent victims" suddenly it's a lot of women. >.>;; Prolly again, cuz women are seen as "better" victims in our society, in that they're more vulnerable, we want to protect them more, and a woman being killed makes men a lot angrier than if a man was killed.

I was confused about how the first inmate died tho. :( Did he die b/c he choked on rope he tried to hang himself with, or did he eat his own intestines? :\

I was wondering if this is an editorial thing? Like originally it was intestines he choked on, but the editor said "no, that's too graphic" and so it was drawn to be ropes instead? But they forgot to change the dialogue later on. :o

Maybe?

I'd rly like it if I knew for certain. But it seems like it :O

It's a bit inconsistant. :(

Very creepy tho. :(

I like how Scarecrow is not a gimmick char nemore. :D I'm rly annoyed sometimes about how Batman's villains have become very 1-gimmick characters. Like, Joker uses his smiley gas, Poison Ivy uses her "fall in love with me" potion, and Scarecrow runs around with the fear gas. :\

This is prolly popularized esp by the Animated Series and now the movie where Scarecrow basically just sticks to the fear gas.

I rly DO like this concept of bringing him back to his "I know what makes ppl tick" roots tho :D And how he can scare ppl and drive them to madness WITHOUT using chemicals. :D

The fingers into the brain thing is gross tho. :\ Is that even possible!?

Neways, I rly liked this issue :D I didn't even realize it was a "filler" issue at all b/c it was so good :D I thought Dini must have written it cuz it was great, but he didn't. :\

Still :D A good story is a good story and I can't wait for the next issue! ^^

Angelwings Rating: 5 scary Scarecrows out of 5 scarier Scarecrows :D
Recommendation: Frightening! :O But oh so good! :D

Supergirl - #20 Review :D

Supergirl - #20

Synopsis: On Air Force One, a stewardess calls her husband in DC and tells her that Wonder Girl's hijacked the plane. :O And that she thinks Supergirl is outside ripping apart the engine, when in fact Supergirl is outside keeping the plane from crashing after the Amazon Attack™. :O

The plane lands but doesn't crash b/c of Supergirl but the call is cut off. :o

Supergirl rescues the president but the ppl in the plane believe she was behind it. :( Superman shows up however and sorts things out. Supergirl talks with Wonder Girl and says that she has to make things right after screwing up and flies off :)

In Washington, the stewardess' husband (who had army training) uses a rocket launcher to kill some Amazons and it brings the wrath of other Amazons upon him and the civilians he's guarding. :O However, Supergirl shows up and stops more bloodshed :D

One of the Amazons uses a special arrow on her and it hurts her! She manages to laser them away before she falls. :( The husband of the stewardess pulls the arrow out of her and finds out that it hurt her b/c it's magic. He keeps it hoping to kill her with it. :(

He accuses her of destroying Air Force One and Supergirl explains that the Amazons did it and that his wife is okay but he doesn't believe her. :o

Suddenly a giant ogre appears and Supergirl fights it but is losing. :( Despite being hurt, she saves the man from being crushed. :\

She is still losing tho and the man gives her the arrow to use against it's eye, admitting that he was planning to use it against her. :o She uses her breath to shoot it at the ogre and blind him! :D

Supergirl beats up the Ogre and the Amazons attacking her. Afterwards she talks to the husband and admits how sorry she is and how guilty and upset she feels and how she was just trying to do the right thing. :]

He explains to her that he knows how she feels cuz he was in Somalia and he was also responsible for tragedy while he and his men were trying to "fix" things. He says that the feeling and memories dun go away, but maybe it's good and they can learn things from it. :)

His wife calls suddenly and he finds that she's okay! :D He tells her that things will be fine and that heroes rly are looking out for them. :3

Review: :O

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS IS THE KARA I'VE BEEN HOPING FOR SINCE SHE WAS REINTRODUCED!!!!

*CHEERS*

^^

She's brave, she's honest, she's nice, she's caring. She's NOT perfect, she obviously makes mistakes and stuffs, but she CARES about other ppl. She WANTS to help. She feels BAD when she screws up. And when she's hurt, she keeps on fighting and protecting others even if it'll kill her.

She's a HERO.

:D

I absolutely luffed everything about this book :D

Sadly, I wonder if we'd have gotten Bedard and Guedes doing this issue with the artistic style and the characterization that they used IF the Kelly/Churchill run hadn't been such a trainwreck? :\

It seems almost like this is a complete 180 response to it. Kara isn't anorexic. She's not selfish and uncaring and spiteful. The story is NOT about her romps around with boys. She saves ppl. She smiles to make ppl less scared. She tries her best to be the best Kara she can be. :D

And when she fails, she's honest about it, she blames HERSELF and not others, and she feels BAD about it.

:D

Are we sure this is Kara? :o

I like how like Waid before him, Bedard has basically decided that the Kelly run is trash and that no explanation is needed as to why Kara is suddenly acting differently. :D

And that's just fine with me! XD

I'm worried that there's gonna be a backlash of ppl complaining about how "fat" Kara is now and stuff :(

There was alrdy some of that when the sketches were released, and now I just worry that there's more. >:|

She's totally not fat! XD

I LUFF HER :D

She looks teh awesome! ^_^

She's pretty, she's strong looking AND she looks relatable :D

And she IS relatable! ^^

She has doubts and fears. She doesn't always think about her actions, but she means well by them and rly DOES want to help ppl. :) And she teared up a bit at the end but didn't go into an emo crying hissy fit like the old Kara did! :D

Oh.. and the plot was okay too XD

Tho I still hate Amazons Attack, this is prolly the best AA story yet :)

I thought the husband character was a little cliched tho, with the whole "I hate you, but now I dun" thing and how he shared his wisdom with her at the end. >.>;;

I think Kara and Jaime should become like.. best friends. :D

NO RLY THEY SHOULD!

Not date or nething, but like friends!

Why can't guys and girls be friends? Why can't they be like best friends and confide in each other and hang out and have fun and NOT kiss or have smexual tension or nething?

That'd be SO GREAT TO READ! ^^

And it would help to develop two young heroes who are both learning responsiblity and to cope with everything and recently both felt bad that they couldn't save everybody they tried to. :(

But yus :) Why is it always girls have their best girl friends and guys have their best guy friends (or nobody and they brood alone) or they have boyfriend/girlfriends? Why can't they just chill and have fun? :D

No creepy Captain Boomerang, omg ur so hawt, imma seduce you now, thing >:|

No Supergirl coming onto every guy she sees. :3

Just two teens having fun? :3

WHY NOT!?

I vote yus to Jaime/Kara 08!

Maybe that'll happen when they meet up for the Teen Titans crossover? :D

I HOPE SO !!!

That would be cool :D

It would also be fun for Brenda and Traci 13 to get mini jealous about Jaime and Kara, but there'd be nothing to get jealous about :D

I just think that the way Kara is written now and the way Jaime is written, that they'd have a lot to offer each other and it'd also give them a stable superhero friendship that's NOT about smex or relationships or competition or nething. :D

Oh! And I'm totally for a Kara/Cassie relationship :D They have GREAT chemistry! XD And who says all chars have to be either straight or gay? :\ How come there aren't bi chars? :( It'd be nice to have 2 big name young superheroes fall in love :D And not an OMGLEZBOKISS, but a serious evolving relationship :D Also the lesbo kiss will get fanboys, so it's a win win! :D

But it'd be so sweet :D Like... Cassie clearly has issues with Conner and Robin and stuffs, and Kara is helping her deal with it. And it could slowly evolve as they get closer and closer and suddenly in one tender moment they kiss. :D And then maybe it could be rly weird to them and they have to deal with it? But then they'd be happy at the end!

Or something...

WELL I THINK IT'D BE CUTE! >:O

>.>

<.<

WHAT?

I DO!!!!

I vote for Karassie 08 too! >:O

>.>

<.<

And is this not the greatest picture of Kara evar? :D

It's amazing that an artist actually made that costume look GOOD :D

I love the defiance in the pose and in the eyes too ^^

:D

*cheers*

Kara is finally a good character! :D

Angelwings Rating: 4.5 out of 5 SUPERGREATAKARAS :D
Recommendation: Get!!! SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR BEDARD/GUEDES! Let DC know that THIS is the Kara we want and not the Kelly/Churchill version! :D

Week of August 1, 2007 Super Short Reviews x3

Hi :D

Today was a surprisingly tasty day in comics :D At least for me >.>

Sadly I picked up 2 tie-ins to Amazons Attack and Countdown, but neither was b/c I wanted to read AA and CD but just that I was following the books XD

Neways, this is what I got :D

American Virgin - #17
The All-New Atom - #14
Detective Comics - #835
Justice Society of America - #8
Supergirl - #20
World War Hulk - #3 (of 5)

:O

I'm still not totally caught up on American Virgin and Atom tho :( In fact I think I missed another issue of AV :\

*sighs sadly*

:(

However I still DID like AV, from what I read, even tho I was a little confused. XD But I recommend it to ppls who haven't tried the series yet! :D

Onwards to the Super Short Reviews!

American Virgin - #17 - I'm happy that they're finally moving on with a plot point that they hinted at in the very very early issues but never got back to. :D As much as I like Adam wandering and finding himself, I liked the idea that there was a lot about his girlfriend's death that he doesn't know and that there's a lot going on in general that he doesn't know about. :3 Also, the sinful Adam is a lot less fun than the uncomfortable cute Adam. XD But I liked this issue a lot :3 4/5

Detective Comics - #835 - I thought Dini wrote this but I was wrong. :( I thought he did tho cuz it had his fingerprints all over it. :O This was a very very very good issue that revamps the Scarecrow to be more of just a gimmick character that he's fallen into lately (i.e. nothing but fear gas). :D I rly enjoyed it, and I can't wait for the conclusion! :3 Also it was great to see Batman not figure out everything immediately :D The writing was rly sharp and I rly enjoyed it :) 5/5

Justice Society of America - #8 - An interesting story about Liberty Belle and her background. :D It was a nice little filler story that helped us get to know more about her character and also about Damage. :) My enjoyment of the story was offset a little by the fact that I was on the subway and there was somebody smelly nearby :( Stupid summer >:| But that's not the story's fault! :D 4/5

Supergirl - #20 - FINALLY SUPERGIRL IS NOT TOTALLY DISLIKEABLE! :D Bedard, like Waid, basically threw away the Loeb and Kelly runs and started from scratch. :D This is a strong Supergirl, one who wants to do the right thing but sometimes makes mistakes and those mistakes eat at her. She's comforting to civilians despite dealing with her own issues of guilt, and most importantly, she CARES about others and WANTS to help. :D Also the art is great as she finally looks HUMAN :3 *bounce* I give a big thumbs up. :3 4.5/5

World War Hulk - #3 (of 5) - This issue dissapointed me a bit actually. :( It seems like the story, after getting off to such a fast start is just spinning it's wheels now. :\ Also I hate the mary sue type villains, who just show up and suddenly can beat around every single hero like they're nothing, making the heroes look absolutely horrible and like morons in the process. :( Also the Hulk's no longer that sympathetic to me after this issue. :\ And the ending confused me XD Maybe b/c I dunno much about the Marvel U? :\ Neways, it just didn't have the fun of the other issues. :( 2.5/5

:D

Tasty! :D

I RLY RLY RLY luff the new Supergirl tho! So much that I want to tell Bedard and Guedes how impressed I am with their first issue and that it's SUCH a breath of fresh air from Kelly and Churchill. :D

Stories that make sense, a Supergirl who actually is a hero, art that doesn't make my eyes bleed. What a concept! XD

*luff luff luff*

Neways :D I'll put up my longer reviews tomorrow when my head isn't about to explode. :(

Bai :D
