Hi! :D
B/c of memorial day, new comic day was pushed back a day :( But now I have them! :D
I got 6 comics today :) I'm a little annoyed tho b/c everything is tying into everything else :(
Countdown ties into Teen Titans and JLA :\
Teen Titans ties into Countdown and Amazons Attack >.>;;
Amazons Attack ties into Wonder Woman, Teen Titans and Countdown >:O
>.<;;
And by that I mean that they have little editor's notes telling you to read the other series in order to know what's going on >:|
*sighs*
This is rly annoying! >:|
It's bad enuf when an event has a bajillion tie ins that build on the plot, but it's worse when you HAVE to get the tie-ins to understand the plot, and that's what's happening here :( It's like they took scenes and put them into the other books just to force you to buy them. >:O
Grrr....
Neways.. this is what I got :D
Action Comics - #850
Amazons Attack - #2
Blue Beetle- #15
Countdown - #48
Justice Society of America - #6
Teen Titans - #47
:)
I found that the comics I expected to like weren't actually that good, and the ones I expected to dislike weren't that bad :D
I'm still annoyed at how Jason Todd shows up EVERYWHERE and no hero makes a move to arrest him >.>;;
It's inconsistant with how the heroes operate. He's a killer and a thief. Whether he kills ppl who deserve it or not isn't the point. >.>;; He doesn't even kill as a last resort. He kills as a first resort. He kills burglars and even after he's incapicated criminals he kills them (and then keeps the money they stole for himself). >:| It's just not right.
I find it ridiculous that just b/c he was a former Robin, every hero gives him a free pass now >:O
*yawns*
I need more sleep :(
So here are my super short reviews :D
Action Comics - #850 - This is basically a history of the current Superman continuity post IC to get us all caught up on things. :o Even tho this is supposed to be the Supergirl in the 31st century, she's acting like the Kelly Supergirl and being all mean and stuff :( Also it appears that current continuity is now the Byrne, Silver Age and Birthright Superman all mixed together >.<;; The story wasn't rly that interesting and the Legion of Superheroes characters aren't characterized very well :( 2.5/5
Amazons Attack - #2 - A lot happened here :D This issue wasn't actually that bad :D I was all rdy to hate it but I actually didn't :) I still hate the plot tho :( But at least more is actually happening, and we're finally seeing the individual Amazons get characters of their own rather than just acting like pawns. :D I just wish that the story could stand on it's own. :\ You HAVE to read both Teen Titans and Wonder Woman or you'll be lost at several points :( 3/5
Blue Beetle- #15 - A bad issue of Blue Beetle!? :( Say it isn't so! ;-; The regular writing/art team isn't on this book and it shows a lot. :\ Also since the art is by Williams II, everything looks like it came out of Robin >.<;; Jaime just looks like Tim with a goatee >:| The story is a dissapointment since nothing rly happens at all, and the big thing we hope for as advertised on the cover, happens as a brief conversation for the last couple pages. >.<;;; Dissapointing :( 1.5/5
Countdown - #48 - This issue wasn't too bad either :D Tho I have no idea why Black Adam is back with powers :( It also links to JLA and Titans :\ And even tho you dun HAVE to read them, you'll be a little lost if you dun. :| Jimmy Olson is up to things tho :D 3/5
Justice Society of America - #6 - Honestly, I'm not enjoying this "Lightning Saga" at all :( There's too many characters involved and the result is nobody gets characterized right and everybody gets reduced to one liners :( I'm also confused where this takes place in continuity since the Legion here isn't the Legion that we're reading in their book >.>;; 2/5
Teen Titans - #47 - Beechan can't write the Teen Titans! >:O Characters act out of... character... and ppl do things they wouldn't do simply b/c Beechan thinks it'd be funny >.<;;; There's not much plot to speak of. It's all about Countdown and Amazons Attack. :( Is this all the DCU will be about this year? :\ 1.5/5
:(
*sighs*
These reviews came off a LOT more negative than I wanted them to be. :( But I honestly was kinda dissapointed by the comics this week. :\ Except for Amazons and Countdown which actually impressed me :D
I guess I'm just tired of everything linking together. :\ And I'm tired of all this "we're back to the silver age, isn't that great?" stuff :( Esp since whenever ppl recall the past, it's not only exactly Silver Age stuff, it LOOKS like Silver Age stuff complete with the old costumes.
What exactly IS continuity nemore? If the Silver Age AND the post crisis continuity are true, how many adventures did these ppl have, and how can they all be fit in together!?
How come the Legion doesn't remember teaming with Superboy at all but Superboy does? :\
It just seems like that they're mixing everything up to resolve it with ANOTHER crisis at the end of this year! >:O
*sighs* How many "continuity correcting" crises do we need!? >:|
*flails*
Neways... I'm gonna take a nap :( I think I'm in a crabby mood ;-;
I'll write up reviews after :D
<3 Ami
Hi! This is just a blog for my own personal thoughts on the comics I buy each week! :D

Checkmate - #14 Review
Checkmate - #14

Synopsis: Nightwing and orders Grace outside to fight the giant green fish monster that's grabbed the ship :O Thunder joins her and is thrown into the monster where she electrocutes it! :O
They gather afterwards for a briefing where Sasha splits them into teams. :| Count Vertigo, Katana and Metamorpho stay onboard the Pequod under cloak, and are only to fight if things go horribly wrong. Vertigo protests that Amanda Waller wanted him to participate in the actual mission, but Sasha overrides the order. :O
Grace, Thunder, Fire, Captain Boomerang and Tommy Jagger are the support team and will cover the main team which consists of Sasha, Nightwing and Tautin.
Boomer protests, wanting to go along, and let's slip that he's done this before for Waller. :O That gets Sasha's attention and she brings him with the team. :|
Vertigo contacts Waller and tells her that he can't keep Boomerang quiet about her reformed Suicide Squad and that he can't affect the mission. :\
Waller tells him to do nothing and then talks to King Farraday who worries that if Sasha gets Boomer to talk, they'll both end up in the Hague. Waller says that's only IF they come back from the mission. :(
Nightwing and Sasha talk about Batman and the past. Nightwing laments that he can no longer make Batman laugh but Sasha says that he was good for him. :\ She says that she never made him laugh, but Nightwing points out that during that time there wasn't much to laugh about. :(
In the Pequod, Vertigo tries to hit on Katana and fails XD
Grace and Thunder go off to snuggle and get into position.. and snuggle >.>;; Tommy tells Fire that he still hasn't forgiven her for what she did in Santa Prisca (sabotaging the mission).
The main team finds a sewer hatch that leads into the main compound and summons the Thinker to open it for them. :) They go inside and head towards the Datahub where they attack the ppl inside! :O
They take control and send a transmission to Checkmate, uploading the information but instead a virus comes thru inverting the datastream and uploading Checkmate's files! :O Mr. Terrific shuts down their communications to prevent any more loss of information but it means abandoning the other team. :(
Meanwhile, Nightwing and Sasha team are surrounded by zombies and giant robots :O
Review: Oh Tommy XD He's growing on me so much :D And I love how he's gay and proud of it XD Whenever somebody hits on him he's all like "I dun like girls >:|"
>.>
:D
I love Checkmate :3
Captain Boomerang is easily the most annoying hero evar XD But he's funny in small doses :D I love when Tautin implies that he doesn't have the self control necessary to be "slow" during smex, he says "I CAN LEARN!" which implies that she was right XDDDD
I dunno if they'll actually expose Waller tho. They clearly can't kill Boomerang off, but I dunno how Waller will escape this if they do get out of alive and he does tell everybody what happened? :\
There were a lot of great character moments in this issue that I rly liked :D Esp between Nightwing and Sasha :D It's nice to see ppl who know Batman talk about him. :o Tho it must be annoying to know somebody like Batman who is SO imposing that ppl who know him talk about nothing but him. :O
Apparently Oolong Island knew that Checkmate was there? :O I guess Waller must have told them. :(
Stupid Waller >:| She's so ebil! >:O
This issue was generally good tho :D It was a very welcome change, esp after 2 very lacklustre issues :( The characterization was good, the dialogue was sharp, and I liked how everybody was interacting with each other :D
I just think that there could be a little more interplay outside of "men hitting on women and getting rejected" XD It's just.. very played. :\
How come the girls are never hitting on the guys? XD
Like Supergirl on Green Lantern! :D
Neways :D There's not a lot much else to say about this issue, but it was a good one and fun to read, which is the most important part :D
It also didn't drag at all XD The fight at the beginning was kept short and everything moved at a good clip :)
I can't wait for the next one :D
Angelwings Rating: 4 out of 5 premature Boomers XD
Recommendation: A good fun issue with great characterization :D This might not be as good as other Checkmate stories, but it looks like it'll be a decent read :)

Outsiders - #47
Outsiders - #47

Synopsis: Nightwing confronts Sasha in Checkmate when Sasha tries to kick him in the balls but Nightwing is protected by a cup! :O
They fight a lot but Nightwing manages to steal her access card and escapes o_o;;;
Sasha orders Jessica Midnight not to send troops to find Nightwing and let him loose for not. :O
Nightwing escapes a bunch of guards and frees Grace. :o
Grace and Nightwing tear thru the building looking for the other Outsiders and are eventually met by Sasha who leads them to a meeting room where everybody is. :|
Nightwing reveals to Sasha that he knows who she is b/c of her fighting style, but she says that he only knew who she WAS. :o
The briefing starts and they're told about Oolong Island and how it's still operating even after Black Adam trashed it. :\ They want the Outsiders to help Checkmate shut down Oolong Island once and for all. :o
Nightwing gets all angry about doing good things, and asks why they should help. o_O Mr. Terrific says it's b/c the UN Security Council doesn't like how the Outsiders operate and how reckless they are. :| But that they're also useful and if they help, they wun get shut down. :) Sasha says that b/c Oolong Island is Chinese territory it's protected politically, and no other team can touch it. However the Outsiders are renegades and wouldn't cause an international incident if they attacked. :O
Nightwing agrees reluctantly, and they set off in his little Nightwing boat. :O However, before they get to the Island, they're attacked by a giant green fish monster thing! :O
Review: I'm starting to get the feeling that this is a 2 issue story made into 4 issues so they could have an Outsiders/Checkmate inter-issue crossover :\
Not much happened in this issue either. :\ The opening parts with Nightwing fight and then Grace and Nightwing fighting was so meaningless!
They rly DO like showing Grace naked >.>;; She's conveniently undressed here too :|
I dun get why Grace is undressed in her cell and requires Nightwing to rescue her, but then the rest of the team is dressed in costume in the meeting room. What was the point of letting Nightwing go? And why is she the only one locked up and not in uniform? :\
It doesn't make sense >.<;; It's arbitrary just to waste pages :(
Basically Sasha let Nightwing go to find Grace, to take her out.. to be confronted by Sasha who leads them to the meeting room. >.>;;
Uh.. okay :|
Sasha couldn't have just had Grace brought to the meeting room with the other Outsiders, and then told Nightwing "your team is in the meeting room".
>:|
*shakes head sadly*
Sasha says that nobody else can touch Oolong Island cuz it's protected politically. That's why they need the Outsiders.
But if that's the case, why does Checkmate go with the Outsiders to the mission and participate in it? The point is that they CAN'T b/c they're part of the UN and dun have permission to go invading Chinese territory.
But apparently they can? :\
Why do they need the Outsiders at ALL then!?
Arbitrary! >:O
Either only the Outsiders can do it, or Checkmate DOES have permission to do it.
:(
This rly doesn't seem to be a very well thought up crossover. :\ I'm not sure which book needs help and is leeching off the other one here :(
Sasha kicking Nightwing in the balls was.. weird :( I never rly approve of that in a martial arts fighting situation. :| It just seems to imply that women fighters HAVE to use that weakness b/c they can't win in a "straight" fight. :(
And why is Nightwing such a jerk!? >:| Srsly! It's not like they asked the Outsiders to MURDER BABIES or nething! They want them to shut down a bunch of evil scientists who made the Four Horsemen! It's not a terrible horrible thing!
I guess I can understand why Checkmate didn't just ask nicely if Nightwing's gonna be such a jerkface about it >:|
Tho I think he might not be so angry if he didn't feel he was being forced to do it. :\ They rly should have just asked. :|
Neways, if this issue and the last issue were combined into ONE issue, the story would be INFINITELY better. :O It would just seem a lot less stretched out. :O
The Outsiders are captured, Nightwing shows up and finds them, they're brought to briefing and they set off.
That's ONE issue. Not two! >:|
B/c of that this issue just feels stretched out with filler. :(
At least I know that the next issue is better :D
Angelwings Rating: 2 out of 5 angry jerky Nightwings
Recommendation: Another blah issue :( Not a lot is explained, except that the Outsiders and Checkmate are going to Oolong Island. :( There's no characterization, no real plot development, or even real set up. :( The next issue can actually be read without the first 2 and you miss nothing. :O You should get it if you're a big Checkmate fan (or Outsiders I guess? XD) but it's not rly all that necessary and definitely isn't a good starting point for new readers. :|

Checkmate - #13 Review
Checkmate - #13

Synopsis: In London, Captain Boomerang is flirting with a scantily clad woman in a bar. :O They go back to his hotel where they make out and she stabs him with a needle, knocking him out. :O
She turns out to be Josephine Tautin, Black Queen's Knight for Checkmate. o_o She reports back to Sasha who coordinates the capture of the rest of the Outsiders. :O
Mr. Terrific thinks that they shouldn't kidnap the Outsiders just to get their help, but the others disagree saying that the Outsiders are reckless and dangerous. :|
In San Francisco, Katana is captured while jogging across a bridge. :O Tommy Jagger pretends to be an injured jogger nearby, and when she tries to help him he sprays her with a chemical and kicks her off the bridge onto a waiting barge (filled with a giant pillow apparently XD)
In Michigan, food is delivered to Metamorphos hotel room (where he's in disguise). :o Since he's Metamorpho, he doesn't need to eat and flushes it down the toilet. But it comes back up on him as some chemical that turns him into a statue and shatters him into a million billion pieces! :(
Before he falls apart however, he manages to communicate with Nightwing calling for help. :O
Amanda Waller asks Sasha how they're going to capture Nightwing, but Sasha says that they dun need to find Nightwing, he'll find them. :O
In New York Nightwing is losing to I-Pod listening villains, killing ppl in metal suits and turning his best friends into tentacle monsters! :O Also he's talking to Alfred about how mad Batman is about something he did. :| However, his call is interrupted by Metamorpho's distress signal and he gets panicked and does an anime teardrop XD (No rly he does! :O )
In Florida, Grace and Thunder are fighting Fire and Jessica Midnight who are unable to contain them. :| Jessica is forced to use a special toxin to neutralize both of them. :\
They take them back to base where everybody gets a nice happy decontamination shower (isn't it a happy coincidence that the 4 ppl involved in that scene were all the female heroes? XD)
Sasha goes into a room after talking to Mr. Terrific and gets mugged by Nightwing. >.>;;
Review: It's awfully convenient that it's not Captain Boomerang that gets gassed. >.>;; The Outsiders have a lot of female members so I wun complain too much XD It's just that.. I'm getting tired of having excuses to see women naked :\
It doesn't HAVE to happen. The scene could have been written a million ways. :\ It's a cheap excuse :(
But that's just a small complaint :D
My bigger complaint is that this whole issue was mostly of just the Outsiders getting captured. :\ It felt very short :( Not a lot happened, and it could have been compressed into a few pages to sum up at the beginning. :| The Outsiders get captured and Nightwing shows up and then we can move on :D
But then we wouldn't get this series crossover thing :\
It's so weird that Nightwing is portrayed as super awesome in some books (like this one) and super bad in others (like his own series) xD
Is he comparable to Batman or isn't he? :\
He looks awfully scruffy :O
I dun have a lot to comment on rly except that not a lot happened and we got plenty of cheesecake shots (like of Tautin dressed like a hooker complete with a full page spread of her in a Supergirl type skirt XD) which is rare for Checkmate. :O Usually there's NO cheesecake at all o_o;;;
Mr. Terrific and Sasha Bordeaux are the HOTTEST COUPLE IN COMICDOM right now tho. :O OMG
:O
They are so hot >.<;;;
It IS weird that they're capturing the Outsiders tho. :| They could have just ASKED for help. >.>;;
Sasha could have just asked Batman who would tell Nightwing to go help her. >.>
And I know the Outsiders are supposed to be all "badass" and stuff, but why is Nightwing suddenly such a jerk here but not in other comics? :|
>.>;;
:o
Neways.. not much else :D This series gets better! :) But I know this cuz I've alrdy read the 2 following issues XDD
And I think that Captain Boomerang is officially like the Princess Peach of the DCU XD He gets captured ALL THE TIME :O
Angelwings Rating: 2.5 out of 5 teardroppy Nightwings :D
Recommendation: You could actually skip this issue and still be caught up since nothing happens except that they get caught. :| It doesn't have much in the way of character moments either, since it's just ppl getting caught and not talking much. :\ So it might not be rly worth it :(

And I know the Outsiders are supposed to be all "badass" and stuff, but why is Nightwing suddenly such a jerk here but not in other comics? :|
>.>;;
:o
Neways.. not much else :D This series gets better!

Action Comics - #848 and 849 Review
Action Comics - #848 and 849

Synopsis: One year ago, Clark Kent (who was powerless at the time) heard about a new metahuman in Nyasir who was protecting Christian missionaries. However, when he asks the Daily Planet to fund a trip for him to go there to investigate they turn him down. He worries about the idea of a superhero with extreme religious beliefs and that a hero like that would go too far. :\
Eleven months later, the hero who calls himself Redemption, shows up again in Nyasir protecting missionaries from government forces. :o They fire at him despite his warnings and he explodes in energy, killing them completely :O
Superman shows up on the scene a month later (now that he has powers again >.>) and wishes he had done more. :( He uses his vision powers to follow Redemption's energy trail to a town called Valley Falls in Colorado. :o
Superman spies on Redemption who is a regular person who is praying with his parents and crying about his inability to control his powers :( He says that his powers come from the beliefs of others in him.
Deciding not to fight somebody who can't control his powers, Superman changes into Clark Kent and visits the local church while reminiscing about his own childhood and going to church. In the Valley Falls church, Clark meets a Reverand Hightower who tells him that Redemption was sent to Nyasir to protect missionaries from their church.
Clark stays for the service and Hightower veers from his planned sermon to deliver one aimed at Clark accusing him (subtly) of being an enemy in disguise. :O
Superman goes back home, confused about what to do, not wanting to provoke Redemption (and cause another massacre) and not sure exactly what the church is up to. :|
Clark goes back home to Lois and Lois asks him if it's rly Redemptions fault if his powers are fueled by the beliefs of others and if what he's doing is actually "wrong" b/c ppl have their own definitions of right and wrong and the church believes that they are right. :O
Hightower talks to Redemption who is praying in the church and comforts him but tells him that he'll have to do this again and to try his best.
In Nyasir again, the soldiers kill the missionaries b/c they realize that Redemption doesn't live with them and therefore can't protect them all the time. :O Superman hears on the news that the capital of Nyasir is now being destroyed by Redemption in retaliation and he rushes to stop him :O Redemption unleashes another energy wave but this time destroys the guns of the troops instead of them. :| However Superman shows up and tells him that his rampage ends now! :O
Second Issue :D
Superman is fighting Redemption but is having trouble b/c Redemption seems to have a variety of different powers. :O
Superman flies him into space and then back into Earth to try to wear him down but he appears to have invulnerability as well! O_O;;
Redemption gets angry and hits Superman so hard he loosens a tooth! :OOOO He says that the Nyasir military has to pay for what they've done but Superman says that there are proper channels to do this thru and that killing them is not the way :O
Back in Valley Falls, the congregation is in the church praying with Reverand Hightower and giving Redemption strength (or so they believe). :O
Superman and Redemption continue to fight while Superman struggles with his feelings, but he concludes that his problem isn't with religion, but with ppl abusing their powers in the name of religion. :O
Also Superman wonders how much of the missionaries deaths were the fault of Hightower b/c the Nyasirian government gave them many warnings to stop preaching and they insisted on it. :|
In the church again, Hightower says that their aren't enuf of them to power Redemption. Redemption feels that the ppl in Nyasir are in trouble and tries to fly away but Superman grabs him and seperates his shoulder! :O This surprises Superman as it seems that Redemption suddenly lost his powers.
Redemption begs Superman to help the ppl in Nyasir and he flies off and helps them, placing them under UN protection. :O However, when he returns Redemption is gone. He wonders how Redemption knew the ppl in Nyasir were in trouble. >.>;;
Back at the Planet, Clark does some investigating and finds out that Hightower served in the military. :| He calls Oracle to get more information and then goes to see Barbara Johnson, the woman from one of the previous Superman issues who believed that Superheroes were angels. :)
Superman asks her about faith and about how ppl know what's right and wrong when there are so many different religions. :o She tells him that ultimately, ppl of true faith, whatever that faith might be, know the difference between helping others and helping themselves. :)
Superman goes back to Smallville where he asks his mom if it ever bothered her that he stopped going to church as a teenager. :O She says that he never dissapointed her, and that all she wanted was for him to have a good foundation for making choices, and regardless of what his religion is, he does the right thing :)
Clark Kent shows up in Valley Falls again and confronts Hightower, revealing that he knows that in World War II, Hightower was an infantry chaplain. He is actually the one with powers, tho the beliefs of others is what powers him. He uses Redemption as a vessel for his powers. :O During World War II, he lost control and killed 2300 ppl from both sides. :OOO
He has since locked his powers deep inside him and worked to redeem himself by doing God's work. :| Clark says that he is using Redemption to protect missionaries in order to put them in places of the world that they otherwise wouldn't be in. Hightower points out the good works that his church has done, but Clark says that those works come with strings attached and often violates the laws of other lands. Hightower refuses to debate with him nemore and sends him away. >.>;;
Clark goes to Redemption's home and explains to him and his family who Hightower rly is. :O
The next day in church, Redemption confronts Hightower in front of the congregation and says that they're a small church which is their strength and that they never had missionaries until Redemption came along. And that this is causing more ppl to die. :(
Hightower gets angry and channels his power, putting Redemption into his costume and saying that if what he was doing wasn't true, he wouldn't have transformed! :O However, Redemption reveals to the congregation that the power isn't his and is actually Hightower's and he's been manipulating ppl for his own crusade! :O
Superman then shows up and questions if what Hightower is doing is for his own beliefs or actually to appease his guilty conscience :O Hightower explodes in power again but Superman refuses to fight and says that the ppl in the church knows what HE (Superman) stands for, but what does Hightower stand for? :O
Superman then leaves. The congregation loses their faith in Hightower and walks away, depriving him of his power :O He collapses and cries :(
Clark decides not to publish the story and reveal the truth behind Hightower or Redemption. :O Lois questions this decision but Clark feels bad for Hightower (!?) and thinks it's the right thing to do.
He reveals to Lois the reason he stopped going to church was b/c he knew too much about the ppl there b/c of his powers and he was worried that he would lose his faith in ppl in general b/c of the sekrits that they hide and the hypocrisy. :(
Eventually he decided to instead have faith in the best humanity has to offer and Lois says that she has faith in him. :D
Review: *falls over*
That was a lot of writing and recapping :O
>.<;;;
I kinda feel bad for the writers, cuz this story was clearly not an easy one to write. :( The writers were very obviously trying to have Superman deal with religion WITHOUT offending nebody.. and that's often hard to do. :\ So it seems they pull their punches a lot.
For example, having Superman be of no religion but instead having a general faith in ppl. :) Tho I agree with that :D
But as Neal Bailey pointed out in his Superman Homepage review, Superman is supposed to represent everybody, and it's better to leave his religion as a question mark than to say that he's atheist, and risk having ppl get mad. :| Just b/c he happens to share beliefs that me and Neal share (Hi Neal! :D) doesn't mean that it's the best course for Superman to go as an icon.
It's hard not to have Superman take sides tho! :O
Neal believes that it's best just not to have Superman deal with controversial issues, but I'm more or less okay with this. :D You can't rly please all the ppl all of the time. :\ And I think it makes sense that Superman would believe more in a general "good" than in a religion in general since Superman is very worldly and he's also SEEN a lot of things. He's been into space. He comes from another planet, and he's fought with and against mythical "gods". :O
Overall, I think the story does a good job with having Superman confront his beliefs and also the beliefs of others, wondering what's the right thing to do when ppl actually believe that they're doing the right thing even if they're not rly. :)
It could have been more heavy handed with very obvious religious villains who kill gay ppl or something, but it wasn't. :) And I'm glad :D I like also how the issue was not that they were sending out missionaries, but they were sending out missionaries ONLY because Redemption existed and gave them a way to fight back. :O As Superman realized, that's not rly courage or faith, that's an abuse of power. :\
Superman saying that his tooth got knocked loose by Redemption made me wonder. What does Superman do about that? :O Does he see a super dentist? Does Batman fix it for him? XD
What happens if he loses a tooth? :O How come he hasn't lost teeth before when he reguarly fights ppl who are equals to him in super strength? :O Why didn't Doomsday end up knocking all his teeth out? :O Hockey players lose teeth like nothing and Superman gets put thru similar punishment! :|
Does he grow them back like a shark? XD
Having regenerative powers wouldn't mean you grow your teeth back >.>;; It just means your body heals faster than regular ppl. But regular ppl dun grow their teeth back no matter HOW long you give their body to heal. :O
The ending was obviously a compromise, so as not to offend nebody, which is why I think the writers were walking on eggshells. :\ As my sister said, Superman basically let a war criminal go. >.>;;
Intentional or not, he killed 2300 ppl! :O
That's a lot of ppl :\
And Redemption was responsible for killing many ppl as well!
This double standard confounds me! XD
Wonder Woman kills one person, and Superman FREAKS and says he doesn't know her nemore.
But he's okay with these ppl killing way more ppl b/c oh, they mean well and he feels bad for them. >.>;;;
It's funny that Superman says that Redemption shouldn't get involved and things should be done thru the proper channels XD
Oh, is that how Superman operates? XD
Also, in the flashback, Clark is using a typewriter during One Year Later. However, according to "Up Up and Away" he didn't start using the typewriter until AFTER he got his powers back b/c they were interfering with his ability to use the computer. :O Just a minor nitpick that I noticed >.>;;
However, plot issues aside, the story was primarily (I think XD) an exploration into Superman's faith and in that I think they pulled it off very well and we got to see what he believes in and in fact that he actually stopped going to church and why. :D
Personally, I like the idea that Superman doesn't go to church, not b/c I have nething against church but b/c regardless of his farmboy upbringing, Superman just seems like he wouldn't. :O
:)
Can we get back to the Zod storyline now!? >:|
Angelwings Rating: 3 out of 5 out of place typewriters for the first issue and 3.5 out of 5 religious war criminals for the second XD
Recommendation: It's not a bad pair of issues to get :D It's not part of the Zod plot so it's skippable, but it is a nice little story about Superman's faith (and a lot of generic fighting) XD

Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes - #30 Review
Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes - #30

Synopsis: The Legionnaires stand around a memorial statue of Mon-El. :OOOO ;-;
We go back to seven days earlier where Lightning Lad tells Cosmic Boy and Sun Boy that they've basically won. The Legion has defeated the Dominators and crippled their infrastructure :O However, Sun Boy points out that this is part of Dommy's plan, that over time the Dominators will breed and become powerful and then take over the universe. :O
Sun Boy says that the only way to prevent this future is to kill the Dominators once and for all. Mekt then shows up and says that Cosmic Boy doesn't have the guts to do that. However, Dream Boy says that he's seen the future and then tells Cosmic Boy to tell the Legionnaires about the bomb he has Brainy building :O
Cosmic Boy denies this accusation at first, but Dream Boy says that Dream Girl told him about it. :o He explains that Brainy's experiment to bring back Dream Girl earlier didn't completely fail and that she's now moved onto a higher plane of existence and can communicate to ppl thru dreams.
Elsewhere, Supergirl and Mon-El are destroying the Dominator bases when Mon-El starts getting sicker b/c of the lead poisoning! :( Supergirl carries him to the others.
Saturn Girl confronts Cosmic Boy about the bomb and Cosmic Boy says it's the only way to remove the Dominator threat forevar. :OO
Mekt approves of course XD But Lightning Lad doesn't. :o
Brainy finishes making the bomb and says that it needs to be detonated inside the core of the planet and therefore it'd be a suicide mission. :|
Supergirl volunteers of course, but Brainy says that she'd never be willingly a part of the genocide of 5 billion sentient beings (HOW LITTLE HE KNOWS HER XDD)
The heroes start arguing about whether this is the right thing to do. :o
Cosmic Boy puts an end to the discussion saying that they are doing it and that Mon-El has to do it b/c he's dying neways and the only piece of Kryptonite left that can cure him is being used for the bomb! :O
Mekt refuses to allow this b/c he believes he "owns" Mon-El b/c he rescued him from the phantom zone.
Mon-El says that Cosmic Boy is right. He says that he valued his time out of the Phantom Zone with the Legion and thanks them for letting him live again.. even if it was only for a short time. :(
He flies into the core and the planet explodes :OOOO
Back on Earth, Cosmic Boy gives a speech to the Legion saying that they're not a team, they're a movement that nebody can join if they are willing to fight for change. :)
Cos flies away with Phantom Girl and Dream Boy as the election results for the new leader of the Legion pour in. :O Since he threw the vote open to a full write in, anybody can be elected leader. :O
Above them, Phantom Girl asks Cosmic Boy why he didn't tell the Legionnaires what RLY happened. :O It turns out that Brainy didn't build a bomb but a phantom zone projector powerful enuf to send the Dominator home planet into the Phantom Zone along with Mon-El, giving Brainy time to find a permanent cure for him. :)
The bomb cover story was Dream Boy's idea (suggested by Dream Girl) and gave Cosmic Boy a way to bluff Mekt into believing that Mon-El was gone for good. Cosmic Boy feared that otherwise, Mekt would have tried to break into the Phantom Zone to free Mon-El b/c he believed he "owned" him and therefore could use him for his own purposes. :O
Cosmic Boy says that he'll tell the Legion after Mekt and his Wanderers move on.
Phantom Girl tells Cosmic Boy that despite himself, he still might get elected leader. Apparently Cosmic Boy has been acting like a jerk in order to get ppl to not vote for him. :O Phantom Girl tells him that he should decide what's best for him, whether to take a break or to lead. :)
Cosmic Boy leaves the other 2 to visit the ruins of the Legion Headquarters and he picks up a statuette of him, Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl (the 3 founders) when suddenly a time portal opens and 3 mysterious figures appear! :O
They claim to be the leaders of the Knights Tempus who are the superheroes of the 41st century! :O And they want to recruit Cosmic Boy to be part of them! :D
Cos asks why they didn't pick Brainy or Supergirl or somebody else more worthy? :o They say that while the other heroes are admired, Cosmic Boy is the hero who inspired them to create the Knights and that they'd be honoured if he'd join them :D
Saturn Girl and Lightning Lad rush to find Cosmic Boy to tell him the results of the elections which are shocking apparently. :O However, they dun find him, but they do find the statue and his Legion flight ring. :(
Review: Awww :( That was sad!!! :(
This rly is the end of the Legion as we know it in more ways than one. :\ Not just a new leader or that Cosmic Boy is gone, but that Kitson and Waid are leaving the book. And this story rly read like a goodbye story. :(
I'll miss them :(
I rly liked that Cosmic Boy went to the 41st century to join a group of superheroes he inspired tho :D Cuz it's just like when the Legion went back in time to the 20th century to recruit Superboy to join them b/c he inspired them ^_____^
:)
It all comes full circle :)
I was a little dissapointed that the "big 3" of the Knights were 2 guys and a girl tho :( Cuz the big 3 of the Legion are 2 guys and a girl (and of the Justice League too XD) and I would think that maybe in the 41st century it might be 2 girls and a guy :D
But still... >.>
Fun! :D
I still think that the new leader is Supergirl. *nods*
Esp since all the other potential candidates were all expected to win at some point (according to the panels) or alrdy deciding what they'd do as leader :D
And why would the vote be written to be a total open write in vote if one of the predicted candidates would win? :o By leaving it open, Waid allows Supergirl to win even tho she never campaigned :)
I like the twist at the end! :) I'm glad that Cos isn't rly ebil and stuff :(
I wonder why they didn't tell Saturn Girl tho :\ She can read minds :O It'd be easy to tell her without Mekt knowing :)
Supergirl was very in character, with wanting to sacrifice herself and insisting several times that ppl stop arguing and just give her the bomb :D That's the Supergirl we want :)
I also like how the Legionnaires were split on what to do, b/c it is a hard decision :( Esp with the Dominators, who are killers, incredibly intelligent and resilient and now super powered. :O Leaving them alone only means endless war :( Either you keep fighting them to keep them down, or you risk them destroying you :( Either way you'll never know peace again b/c you'll have to be focussed on keeping them from destroying you :\
The Phantom Zone still seems just as bad as death tho >.>;; If you plan on keeping them there FOREVER, then it's basically death.. isn't it? :|
My favourite scene was of Mon-El flying off with the bomb. :( It's a very beautiful panel, but what I rly like about it is that all the Legionnaires are holding up their hands to him displaying their flight rings. :) That's rly nice attention to detail :D The non-legionnaires aren't also :O
However, there were some things I was kinda annoyed about. :\ The art is a little inconsistant. It seems like at times it's not Kitson drawing it but the fill-in artist from the last issue. :( Tho it appears that Waid and Kitson were a bit rushed (which is why they didn't work on #29 >.>) getting this done. :|
Also the dialogue bubbles are.. messed up :( Many of the bubbles are attributed to the wrong ppl.
Like... when Dream Boy says that he's been talking to Dream Girl. Mekt says "Wait Nura said something to you before she died?"
I'm fairly certain that that bit of dialogue was meant for one of the Legionnaires and not Mekt. Cuz Mekt didn't know Dream Girl and certainly wouldn't call her Nura. >.>;;;
Also when Cosmic Boy asks "Brainy can Mon-El even BE cured at this late stage?" he immediately follows by saying "Not without one last fragment of Kryptonite to put in the serum."
That line seems like it should be for Brainy since Cosmic Boy wouldn't answer his own question >.>;;;
So the book is kinda sloppy :(
But it's still rly rly good :D And rly sad b/c of Cosmic Boy leaving and Mon-El's apparent sacrifice :(
I'm going to miss Waid and Kitson's work on this book so much. ;-;
I'm also looking forward to the new adventures of the Legion tho :D
SUPERGIRL FOR LEADER! :3
Angelwings Rating: 5 Waids out of 5 Kitsons :)
Recommendation: This whole series has been a must read :D And I recommend this book also! But it's not rly accessible to new readers since it's the end of an arc. :O So get the whole arc alrdy! XD

Synopsis: The Legionnaires stand around a memorial statue of Mon-El. :OOOO ;-;
I'm fairly certain that that bit of dialogue was meant for one of the Legionnaires and not Mekt. Cuz Mekt didn't know Dream Girl and certainly wouldn't call her Nura. >.>;;;
Also when Cosmic Boy asks "Brainy can Mon-El even BE cured at this late stage?" he immediately follows by saying "Not without one last fragment of Kryptonite to put in the serum."
That line seems like it should be for Brainy since Cosmic Boy wouldn't answer his own question >.>;;;
So the book is kinda sloppy :(
But it's still rly rly good :D And rly sad b/c of Cosmic Boy leaving and Mon-El's apparent sacrifice :(
I'm going to miss Waid and Kitson's work on this book so much. ;-;
I'm also looking forward to the new adventures of the Legion tho :D
SUPERGIRL FOR LEADER! :3
Angelwings Rating: 5 Waids out of 5 Kitsons :)
Recommendation: This whole series has been a must read :D And I recommend this book also! But it's not rly accessible to new readers since it's the end of an arc. :O So get the whole arc alrdy! XD

Countdown - #49 Review
Countdown - #49

Synopsis: In Arkham Asylum, Jimmy is talking to Lois on the phone when Killer Croc breaks free and tries to kill him but instead he becomes all stretchy like Plastic Man! :O The guards then taser Croc and says that Jimmy was brave to stand his ground. :o He's normal again and chalks it up to the adrenaline making him think he was stretchy >.>;;
In Monitorland, Good!Monitor is arguing with Bad!Monitor about his decision to kill Duela Dent >.> Bad!Monitor says that they have to take action in order to prevent another crisis, and that Kyle Rayner, Donna Troy and Jason Todd three of the biggest "mistakes" of the multiverse and must be purged. :O
On the JLA satellite, Karate Kid is locked up and Red Arrow is guarding him. Karate Kid mocks Red Arrow for being unoriginal.
Somewhere in the ocean, a fat old business man is on his yacht making a phone call transferring his money to another account. He then jumps into the ocean! O_O;; Inside, Mirror Master and Trickster watch as Piper plays his pipe manipulating the business man into apparently killing himself. Mirror Master doubts that he's rly dead but Piper says that with the guy being overweight and 5 miles from shore, he couldn't have made it. :o
Trickster and Piper insist that this is enuf for them to be accepted into the Rogues. Mirror Master says that they chose a corrupt business man as their target instead of somebody innocent, and still doubts their intentions. However, since the money was transferred into his account, he accepts that they are rly evil. However, Piper takes the money for his own account and says that Mirror Master owes him for killing his parents! O_O;;
Afterwards, Trickster tells Piper that he knows that Piper used his flute to influence the business man to swim all the way back to shore regardless of how tired he is. >.> He forces Piper to transfer the money to him instead. It turns out that Piper actually transfered the money to a charity and not to his own account, but he quickly transfers it back to Trickster. o_O;;
In Gotham City, Mary Marvel runs away from thugs chasing her (Batman's apparently sleeping XD) and into a building she feels drawn to. :O Inside, Black Adam attacks the thugs and kills them. Then he lunges at her! :OOO
We get a side story called "History of the Multiverse" at the end where the Monitors stand around in Monitorland recapping the old DCU (again) and how the Flashes of Earth 1 and Earth 2 first met (when Barry Allen vibrated into Earth-2) and how this was just the beginning of the various universes meeting each other. :O
Review: Is it just me or does DC right now think that simply evoking the silver age makes a story awesome by itself. :\ I read a review that felt the same way, that the ending of 52 and the return of the multiverse had this feeling like DC was saying to us "the multiverse is back! This in itself should make you happy, b/c the silver age was great!"
>.>;;
It's just.. like... the Jimmy Olson thing. :\ It didn't rly make me excited or nething! Mostly I was just like o_O;;; WTF!?
It's not like there aren't stacks and stacks of silver age comics to read if we missed them. :( It just seems to me like DC's only plan right now is "evoke the silver age as much as possible b/c we know ppl love it".
I rly dun like how they keep throwing in the "Lightning Saga" out of the blue. :\ 52 was self contained. >:| Countdown requires you to know what's going on. Otherwise you'd be lost about what Karate Kid is doing on the JLA satellite with Red Arrow (you'd also be wondering about when Arsenal became Red Arrow XD) and what they're talking about. >.>
And... MONITORS! >.> I'm tired of the monitors :( They're everywhere. And it's always the same when they're around!
Good!Monitor says that they can't kill ppl and Bad!Monitor says that they can and should kill ppl.
And of course, hints of another crisis is coming. I bet it involves the Bad!Monitor.
But to be a real villain, he'll need a name... hmmm..
Well... since he has the opposite ideas as the other Monitor...
I GOT IT!
Let's call him the ANTI-Monitor!
I'm so smart >.>
XD
And then we get the history of the DCU... again... >.>
How many times in the past 2 years has DC recapped in someway the history of the multiverse? o_O;;
I like how Piper is a good person and can't help it :) I just wish I knew who Piper IS!
But at least Black Adam's back! :D
That was soon tho :(
But I'm glad he's back! :)
*snugs Black Adam*
I miss him :(
But yus.. this is gonna be Mary Marvel turning ebil ;-;
Whenever I see ppl running thru the streets of Gotham in fear, I always wonder what Batman's doing XD Maybe he shouldn't have chased all the other heroes out of town huh? XD
Stil... Countdown is just so... blah for me. :( The plot is disjointed, the characters aren't introduced as much as they're just THERE. And now Dini's telling us it's our fault if we dun get his genius masterpiece >:| Also that it's not meant to be read seperately. In which case, maybe this is the wrong medium for it. >.>
Part of the challenge of writing serialized comics is being able to tell a whole story that's interesting as a whole AND that's interesting as seperate chapters. >.>
Also that doesn't excuse the fact that things are happening without any set up and characters just appear without being introduced. :\ Unless he's telling the story backwards or something (and I suggested that they should do this XD), reading all 52 issues isn't going to change that :(
*sighs*
I rly hope it improves tho :|
I just hope this isn't leading to another crisis :( How many crises do we need!? :\
I have event fatigue :( I rly do ;-;
Angelwings Rating: 2 out of 5 ebil!Monitors
Recommendation: Again, this is not a must have issue at all. :\ And at 3 dollars each for 52 weeks, so far Countdown isn't seeming like it's worth the committment or the cost. :\

Week of May 22 2007 Super Short Reviews :)
Mix mix mix! :D
Hihi :)
SOOOOOOOOOOO
:O
B/c of the holiday last monday (Victoria's Day in Canadia), the shipping schedule got pushed back a day APPARENTLY :o So I didn't get my comics until Thursday :(
I've taken to getting the majority of them from a different store now cuz they're 10 cents cheaper (which adds up XD) and the ppl there are nice, if kinda... stereotypically comic booky XD
It still creeps me out tho cuz it's so dark and narrow it's like being in a cave :(
That's why I've avoided it for so long :(
I was on my way to something too, so I was in a mini skirt, a little pink Supergirl (with the S! :D) tank and cork heels :o Also pink sunglasses! :D
Everybody was staring at me when I went in :O It was weird >.>;; But also hilarious! :3 I'm sure ppl were like "wha-? :O"
NEWAYS :O
So I didn't get much today :o I ignored the HUGE stack of All-Star Batman and Robin :O They ordered WAYYYY too much XD THey have like tons and tons and tons that nobody's bought since last week :O
I also got the new American Virgin, but I still can't find #12 which upsets me a lot! :(
I also.. against my best judgement, got Wonder Woman >.>;;
>_>
Soooo.... :o This is what I got:
American Virgin - #15
Birds of Prey - #106
Countdown - #49
Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes - #30
Wonder Woman - #9
It wasn't a bad week :) I just wish that DC had more books lately that I'm looking forward to :O
I think right now it's mostly Blue Beetle, Checkmate, Legion of Superheroes, Detective Comics and (ignoring the last arc) The Atom :)
The Superman titles are also good :) Whenever they decide to come out >.>;;;
So here are the super short reviews :D
American Virgin - #15 - This is still a great series and I rly like how Adam is developing so much :) It's just a bit slow now cuz it seems the series is just drifting, but I'm sure it'll pick up :D My only beef is the way Seagle writes trans people :\ I have many trans friends, esp FtMs (Female to Male) and Seagle hasn't seem to rly done his homework, at least about the processes involved and what ppl do and stuff :| The writing is great and he definitely makes them good well rounded characters :D Also there's prolly not a lot of comics that has this many trans characters in it :O But a little research would have helped :( But this is still a great series :D 4.5/5
Birds of Prey - #106 - Crazy :O But fun! :D It's just a giant fight, but it's done WELL :) Simone knows that a giant heroes vs heroes fight is nothing big nemore and she doesn't write it like that in itself is a selling point XD Instead the dialogue during the fight sells it so well :D Also... MISFIT!! XDD After a few issues of not rly doing much, she's back and with the best line EVAR :D Oh and Big Barda got her chestplate back :O 4/5
Countdown - #49 - >.>;; No matter what Dini says, Countdown is just not impressing me lately :( In fact I'm a little dissapointed in him that he's taken the "you just dun get my genius" tactic to defend himself from criticism :( It's just that.. Countdown seems just like a "paint by the numbers" event, that's trying to emulate 52 by putting weird and "shocking" things in each issue, but it forgets about plot cohesiveness or character development :( Also.. more Monitor stuff :( I'm getting bored of them and they've just shown up! :\ At least it appears DC's brought somebody back alrdy! Even tho... it seems so soon and sudden, it's nice to see him back! :D 2/5
Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes - #30 - This is Kitson and Waid's last issue on the series, but it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good :O At first I was like OMG THEY DIDN'T! :O And it seems like Waid took the series into SUCH a dark direction, but then it turns out to be kinda a swerve :D And the reveal was rly great! :) Also the dialogue was so great :D I loved everything about this issue, and it read a lot like this was a very special "goodbye" to a series that Waid and Kitson rly made special :D I'll miss them :( 5/5 :)
Wonder Woman - #9 - :( Picoult seems to have made a mistake a lot of new superhero writers fall into, and that's thinking that they've come upon a new idea by having superheroes act "silly" or like "regular" ppl. :\ She forces it SO much, that you're just like o_O;;; Batman so would not say that! The big problem with her writing on this series is she just doesn't GET the characters :( Also she's limited by this stupid Amazons Attack plotline which reduces each and every Amazon into nothing but a "Grrrrr kill" caricature :( I rly miss the old Wonder Woman :( 2/5
Neways that's it for now :D
I'll post in depth reviews later! :D
I think I'm going to go to a dance party later, so it'll prolly be tomorrow >.>;;
Bai! :D

Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes - #29 Review
Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes - #29

Synopsis: The head of the Dominator invasion flashbacks to his youth when he was in school and his teacher taught that sometimes intellectually and technologically superior species can still be defeated by more primitive foes. And that only by admitting the possiblity of being vulnerable can the Dominators avoid this fate. :o
However, troops are then sent in to kill the teacher to stop him from teaching that Dominators are not perfect. :| Still, this event had a lasting impact on the Dominator leading the attacks now, b/c he realized his teacher was right.
He looks out and sees the Legion of Superheroes on his planet destroying things and looks down on them as primative scum. :\
While they're fighting the Legion realize that the Dominator warriors keep saying "remember the fifdee-tuuuu (remember the 52)" and wonder why. :o
The lead Dominator (from now on I'll call him Dommy XD) talks to the other Dominators who yell at him for not protecting the planet well enuf and that his warriors are failing. :( He assures them that this is according to his plan but they get mad at him. He thinks that they are short sighted :o
Dommy thinks back to the 20th century when the Dominators along with other races (Thanagarians, Khunds, Gil'Dishpan, Durlans, Warlords of Okaara, Citadelians, Daxamites and Psions) united together against the potential threat they saw as Earth (b/c Earth had too many superheroes). :o They launched an invasion (as told in the Invasion event in 1989) of Earth but failed. :)
After their defeat, the Dominators became insular and withdrawn. Eventually they signed a peace treaty with Earth which they had no name for b/c there was no word for "non aggression pact" in their language. However, eventually they did gain a word like that and (at least according to Dommy) they became weak and soft.
The one day in the 31st century, Booster Gold appeared hunting for a piece of technology that he needed to help Rip Hunter defeat Mr. Mind in 52 XD He steals the Tachyon Disruptor Rifle that Dommy had just invented and vanishes, but not before saying that he had 52 worlds to save. :O
This makes the Dominators believe that Earth had allied 52 other worlds against the Dominators and Dommy is able to convince his superiors to launch an attack and build his super soldiers O_O;;
Dommy goes to check on his prisoners and Sun Boy tells him that the Dominators broke the peace treaty but Dommy says that humans did (b/c of Booster Gold) and that the Dominators have been sekritly attacking human settlements for some time, to learn more about them and to test weapons against them.
The United Planets investigated by sending Mekt Ranzz and his Wanderers to investigate. They were eventually but at the cost of many many Dominator lives. Dommy realized that humans had the advantage b/c of their metagene which gave them superpowers. >.>;;
So he proposed to the Emperor to create the super soldiers to fight back, which was blasphemy b/c it meant admitting that Dominators were physically inferior. However, b/c he believed that humans were an imminent threat, the Emperor agreed.
Dommy lets the prisoners go, shocking one of his super soldiers who kills him for it.
However, before he dies, Dommy reveals that his plan was for his home planet to be destroyed. His super soldiers would be all that would remain of the Dominators and would be scattered. However, over the centuries they will breed and create more genetic mutations which will have super powers and ensure the superiority of the Dominator race! :OOOO
Dommy dies :(
Sun Boy reunites with the Legion and they prepare to conquer the planet once and for all. :O
Review: THIS IS ALL BOOSTER GOLD'S FAULT!!!
>:O
Silly Booster! If he had just kept his big mouth shut this wouldn't have happened XD But nooooo.... he has to brag XD
Still! :D I like how they tied it into 52 and explained why this happened :)
Dommy is kinda scary :( He has long term plans that kinda make him one of those visionary psychopaths :O But it also makes him interesting!
And I can see how other worlds might be jealous (and fearful) of humans in the DCU cuz of how many humans have super powers. :O
The issue was almost entirely about him, with very little about the Legion, so there's not a lot to talk about. :O
I enjoyed the explanation and the flashbacks and seeing why the Dominators are doing what they're doing.
I kinda feel bad for them tho :( Cuz they're being killed :\
Are the Legionnaires RLY killing them!? :o I dun think that they kill :O
But it IS war I guess? :\
Maybe Dommy just means that the destruction of the current Dominator society would be good, and force his ppl to survive amongst the galaxy and that evolution would help them become stronger? :o
It's hard to predict these things tho :\ Dommy might be wrong :(
But it IS interesting :D
I'm sad that Waid and Kitson aren't on this issue tho :( I thought they weren't leaving until issue 30 :\
Sharpe's art isn't rly bad, but it's not Kitson's. :\ The characters look rly old and Cosmic Boy looks like he's at least 30 >.>;;
Also the ending to the book where Cosmic Boy is at the front and says that they can't stop until the planet falls, and all the other heroes are behind him, is very very similar to the ending of the last issue where he says almost the same thing with all the other heroes behind him. >.>;;
That was kinda redundant. :\ Esp since this issue barely featured the Legion, so it's like... nothing rly happened? The Legion did stuff.. and then they have to do it again? o_O;;;
NEWAYS :O
I'm interested to see what happens next! I guess (according to previews neways) that Cosmic Boy is being charged with war crimes now? :o If they ARE killing ppl, I can see why >.>;;
But even if they aren't, it would be kinda scary for the rest of the galaxy to see how powerful the Legion can be if it wants to since it's basically conquering a whole world :O
I hope that after the war is over, Supergirl will get more characterization and face time in this book, since she is in the title after all XD It's just odd cuz they show her on the covers a lot and put her in the title, but she's barely ever mentioned or shown. :\
Angelwings Rating: 3 out of 5 Dommies
Recommendation: It's a good little backstory book :) But in terms of the actual plot, it didn't change nething. :o If you're alrdy following the story you might want to get it, but if you're knew, this isn't the issue to start on. :\ Esp without Waid and Kitson :(

Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes - #28
Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes - #28 Review

Synopsis: Dream Boy floats in space when Dream Girl appears and talks to him. :O He realizes he's having a vision, and she says that he has to listen to what she has to say because the choices he makes from this vision will save the universe. :O
On Earth, Mon-El uses his vision powers to try to find Cosmic Boy but is unable :( He starts getting sick again b/c of the lead poisoning but Brainy doesn't have the resources to cure him :O
Saturn Girl says that the troops are destroying the Legion and that all of the humans are locked in their homes and trapped b/c of their technology being infested by the Dominator virus. :( She says that the team is scattered too far out for her to reach via telepathy.
Meanwhile, Shadow Lass hits one of the Wanderers for implying that it's Cosmic Boy's fault they're in this mess and not Mekt Ranzz (leader of the Wanderers). :O Projectera tries to calm them down while she tends to Timberwolf who is injured. :( Suddenly they're attacked by a giant robot! :O
However, Ultra Boy appears and defeats the robot, except that since he can only use one power at a time, he had to turn off flight and switch to invulnerability right before he hit the robot, and didn't switch in time, so he's severely wounded now :(
Phantom Girl and 2 Wanderers are at the remains of the Legion Headquarters looking for an object that she wun reveal to them what it is. She says that the plan is for all the heroes to assemble in one spot for a final stand. :O
Meanwhile, in Paris, the Dominators have Triplicate Girl and some other heroe in a detention cell while they torture Cosmic Boy. :O
He refuses to tell the Dominators the location of where the heroes are gathering even tho they are very brutal. :(
They take Triplicate Girl and torture her instead. D: They use special gloves to pull her a bit apart and break her bones :( One of the triplicates breaks and gives them the information. ;-;
The Dominators send the coordinates to the main base on Dominaria and they open a teleportation portal at the rendezvous site and hordes of Dominator troops pour onto Earth! :O
However, Triplicate Girl reveals that it's a trap! :O Suddenly, Supergirl, Ultra Boy and Mon-El rush thru the gate, taking all the troops with them :D They take control of the portal room and Supergirl sends a gate to Cosmic Boy and the others to rescue them :D
Cosmic Boy rescues himself, proving that he only allowed himself to be tortured to further the plan. :O
With the team together, they go thru the portal to Dominaria to defeat the Dominators! :D
Cosmic Boy tells them not to stop until they control the planet! :O
Review: :O The reason this review took a while to write is that a lot happened in this book and I rly can't remember who all the characters are! :( For some odd reason this particular issue doesn't list the rosters so we know their names. :\ To make things worse, the characters usually call each other by their first names (or nicknames derived from the first names), so I have no idea who nebody is!!!!
A lot of the characters tend to look more or less the same too :\
That's not a problem with the art XD That's just how the Legion of Superheroes is. :O
However, the story was great! It was a little cliched tho b/c of the trick. :O Silly Dominators XDDD They dun watch enuf movies XDDD
This is also why torture doesn't work (unless it's for something immediate, like a code to a lockbox you have right next to you where you can immediately confirm an answer). :o You can never be sure of the information you're getting. It could be a lie, it could be the truth, or it could be a trap. :O
If you're confident in your methods, then you can be easily tricked. If you're not confident in your methods, then the torture is meaningless cuz you wun trust any answer you get. >.>;;
The goal of this arc seems to be to show that Cosmic Boy deserves to lead the Legion and he's certainly showing it here :) Esp with the fact that he allowed himself to be captured and tortured in very painful ways in order to further the plan. :O
I think the reason why he didn't break was b/c the Dominators might be suspicious if the leader gave up so easily, but they didn't suspect Triplicate Girl b/c they thought she was just a weak female. :D And they were fooled :D
I feel bad for her tho :( They broke her arm! :(((
It was great to see Supergirl do something! She's been surprisingly absent for a series with her name on it. :O I DO like that she's so happy and helpful and stuff tho! :D
But honestly, this series was never about her. She was just a side character, and she works very well that way :D
I also like how the other Legionnaires didn't know the plan (I'm guessing b/c if they were captured, the Dominators wouldn't be able to get any information from them) and for a panel it seemed like everybody rly was doomed. :O
There was a real feeling that they could lose here :( I liked the feeling but it was also kinda sad. :\ Like, since Waid and Kitson are leaving, you dun rly know what might happen :O
And all the heroes sacrificing themselves to help each other is sad but heroic. :]
Neways, I rly like this series, and I'm said that Waid and Kitson will be leaving. :( I totally dun understand why Waid has to leave too!!!!! I wish he'd become the new writer for Supergirl. :(
I can only hope that Sean McKeever's Supergirl in Teen Titans is a lot like Waid's and not Kelly's, b/c I'm gonna be so annoyed in Supergirl is nothing more than the Paris Hilton of that team. :( I'm esp worried right now b/c Miss Martian fills the cute role and I worry about where Supergirl fits. :(
The problem with TT, is many writers have a tendency to just divide up teen groups into categories... like what Johns did in the beginning of this run, where Ravager is just "the bad girl" and that's it. :\ But McKeever showed a lot of nuance in writing teenagers in Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, so I hope he brings the same to Teen Titans! :D
>.>;;
That was an off-topic ramble. :O
Still, this was a good issue, and continues a great series where teenagers and young ppl are heroes without being immature or silly. :D They're intelligent, brave and can put aside all their issues and differences to save the world when it counts. :D
Angelwings Rating: 4 Supergirls out of 5 Dominators
Recommendation: Definitely worth picking up :D

Action Comics - #847 Review
Action Comics - #847

Synopsis: Jonathan Kent is in the kitchen at night trying to get the coffee maker to work. Martha comes down and says that Jonathan shouldn't be drinking coffee b/c his doctor told him to stop. :o Jonathan says that it's the end of the world and it doesn't matter. :O
Martha starts crying and Jonathan comforts her, but Martha says that things look hopeless with Clark missing and Zod and his army of Kryptonian criminals taking over Metropolis :O
Jonathan says that Clark's overcome much worse and tells Martha a story that he promised Clark not to tell her. o_o
Apparently last fall, he told Martha that he and Clark went ice fishing but in reality they went into space :O
Clark took his dad to the fortress and made a spaceship for them :D They fly to a supernova to watch it. However, Clark hears distress calls indicating that the nearby star systems are under attack by a Sun-Eater. O_O;;
An alien is piloting one of the few ships that survived the attack and is trying to get an entropy bomb inside the Sun-Eater to destroy it. >.>;; However the Sun-Eater spots him and tries to destroy him but Superman absorbs the attack and tales the entropy bomb himelf into the Sun-Eater and destroys it! :O
Altho it hurt him rly bad, Superman manages to get himself inside the Sun-Eater and detonates the bomb! :O
However, he can't outrun the shockwave, but Jonathan is able to pilot the ship and save Clark :D
Superman gets a medal from the aliens for saving them and he and his dad go home where they catch some fish (actually Superman does all the catching XD). :O Jonathan says that the moral of the story is not to count Clark out no matter how bad the odds look :)
However, Martha realizes that Jonathan was lying but is glad he is to cheer her up. :) They go back upstairs to sleep, believing that Clark will find a way back to stop Zod.
Review: So when IS Clark coming back to stop Zod huh Mssrs. Johns and Donner? XD Srsly... :\ Enuf with the filler issues! >:O
I apologize for the lateness of this review btw :( I have a lot of back issues sitting on my desk that I need to review :(
*shakes head sadly* They just pile up. D:
NEWAYS. Did Clark just kill a sentient animal!? :O Or was Jonathan rly lying about the whole thing? We dunno if he was lying or not, just that Martha thinks he is. :o
But she knows him best I guess xD
The whole story sounds kinda crazy neways. :\ I hope that this isn't what the new "back to the Silver Age" Superman is all about however. :( The Superman with the fortress that allowed him do nething and who takes vacations all around the universe is boring. :( Mainly cuz... basically he has 0 limits. Which makes him rly hard to associate with. He's too much of a God and not a regular person with super powers who uses them to do good. :\
I've always liked the Superman that focused less on his Kryptonian heritage and more on his human one :)
I also find it hard to believe that Superman's nevar taken his parents up to his fortress before. :O Like, why not? :O
The spaceship is way too much :( If SUperman can just create spaceships out of sunstone crystals, why doesn't he share this technology? Or use it more often to help ppl? If Jor-El could package up THIS much Kryptonian technology on Superman's little ship, how couldn't he have saved himself and his wife? :\
I just rly prefer the simple Superman who was saved b/c his father only had time to make a ship that could hold one person, and that his Fortress was just a gift from his dad but didn't contain like.... all sorts of things like a zoo and stuff... but just information that his dad wanted him to have. :)
Also, Sun-Eaters (according to Animal Man neways) are animals, and fairly complex. :o Superman seems to be very callous about killing it. He's usually less callous about killing animals, even when he has to. :\
A Sun-Eater attacking planets would be a lot like a sperm whale eating krill. It's not fun if you're the krill, but certainly, it's not EVIL, it's just feeding. :O So Superman should at least feel bad when he does it. :(
But Jonathan is prolly lying about the whole thing neways!
It wasn't too bad of a story tho :D It could have been better :( It wasn't very father/son bonding-ish. :( Also... did Jonathan and Martha get plastic surgery or something? Why do they look so young!?
It's like in Seinfeld.
"How old's the son?"
"I think he's the same age as the father!"
Esp when in previous depictions, they look... rather aged :o
I dunno... I just wish there'd be a LITTLE consistency amongst comics XD
Still, this was a cute filler story. :D But sorta pointless :( I just wish that we'd actually get to the main story about how Superman escapes the Phantom Zone and defeats Zod. :)
Angelwings Rating: 2 out of 5 dead Sun-Eaters :(
Recommendation: Not rly worth it for a filler issue. :\

Batman - #665 Review
Batman - #665

Synopsis: Batman collapses in the alley way after having his back stepped on by Bane-Batman. >.>
The prostitutes go to check on him but are freaked out and run off, except for one who takes him in a car and drives him to an address he mutters.
Batman takes a sekrit elevator up to a penthouse where he calls Alfred. :o
While lying in bed, Batman has a dream of 3 other Batmen (Demon Batman, Bane-Batman and a Batman holding a gun) with his son, Damian telling him that the third ghost is the worst of all :o
Batman wakes up with Robin and Alfred standing over him. He says he was scared during the fight and worried his back was broken again and that the villain dosed himself with the monster serum that made the monster men and daily shots of the Bane venom :O
Batman collapses in bed again and Robin decides to take things into his own hands and leaves.
Batman wakes up and tells Alfred about the Black Casebook and how it contained all of Batman's cases that involved the unexplainable like ghosts, vampires, time travel, etc :o
He says that one night he saw three versions of himself. One version killed ppl with a gun, another used strength-enhancing drugs and the third sold his soul to the devil and destroyed Gotham :O
He thought that these were just warnings meant to tell him what MIGHT happen to him if he takes the easy way out to fight crime, but now apparently somebody's doing them irl to get at him :O
Batman starts rubbing himself in Bruce Wayne's used clothes in order to get the scent of "manliness" on him to scare Bane-Batman >.>;;;
Meanwhile, Bane-Batman is killing more prostitutes :(
Robin shows up and hits him with his Robin bike. :O However, he's too strong for Robin but then Batman shows and hits him with the car while escaping with Robin! Bane-Batman, picks up the car but Batman electrocutes it!
Batman beats up Bane-Batman using materials from a construction site. However, then the police show up and threaten Batman, forcing him to leave. Batman talks to Commissioner Gordon who says that he can't get any answers about the cops and the mayor is telling him to back off. :o
Elsewhere, Talia Al'Ghul has her ninjas bring a beaten and broken Damian to a lab where they have lots of body parts in tanks and says to give him a full organ replacement :O
Talia comes out of the shower and is told by her helpers that Damian is in stable condition and that Bruce Wayne is dating Jezebel Jet. >.>;;;
In Venice, Bruce and Jezebl are together and they kiss as somebody watches. :O
Review: Did the story of the 3 Batmen actually exist? :O It sounds like something that could have been written :D I hope it is... I'd like to read it :o
Talia coming out of the shower and talking to her ppls amuses me XD Dun most women have conversations while they're naked out of the shower? I know I do!
>.>;;
She could have been doing any number of things and had that conversation, but it was a shower =_=;;;
At least they didn't make it into a full page spread :O
Batman was driven to an underground parking lot where he entered an elevator that took him up to Bruce Wayne's penthouse. :o
That in itself isn't that odd..
Except that it seems to be a regular parking lot and the elevator is not a sekrit elevator. He had to unlock the penthouse when he was alrdy on the way up. The elevator had buttons to every floor including the penthouse. It appears to be a regular elevator for the building. >.>;;
And now it's smeared in Batman's blood XD
How did the girl enter so easily in her car? :o Even if this was Batman's sekrit hideaway, you can't just enter. And if it's the underground parking lot for the condo, you definitely can't just enter without passing some security. :|
>.>;;
I WISH I HAD A PENTHOUSE I COULD GO WHEN I FEEL ILL!!!
I'm not mocking, I rly do :(
It looks so comfy! :3
When did Gotham City become so bad again? Gordon talks like it's the Frank Miller pre-Batman Gotham where everybody is corrupt and ebil :(
Bane-Batman throwing the prostitute into a wall so hard to break her neck (if she wasn't alrdy dead) was disturbing :(
I found the scent thing odd tho :\ Like... Alpha Males back off from other Alpha Males cuz of the scent. o_O;;; And apparently Batman doesn't smell enuf like Bruce Wayne as it is XDDDD
The dialogue is very Frank Millerish and so are the thought boxes :( I thought I was reading All-Star Batman and Robin at some points :(
So right after this horrible night and finding out that Gotham City is in worse shape than evar, Bruce then goes off to Venice to smex Jezebel? XD
He seems to care more about his other identity than usual :O
Neways, I'm looking forward to the next issue about Damian Wayne's adventures in the future tho :O It seems interesting :)
Angelwings Rating: 2 out of 5 nekkid Talias XD
Recommendation: If you like this Morrison/Miller type of writing, you might like this issue, but if you're not alrdy into Morrison's current run, it's not rly worth it :(

Supergirl - #17 Review
Supergirl - #17

Synopsis: Supergirl is attacked by a bunch of ppl infested with phantoms! :O
Hawkman, Mr. Terrific and J'onn are shown to be infested too :(
Supergirl knocks some of them away with superbreath and then tries to fly off but she only jumps a long distance b/c apparently she's losing her powers :O
Sarah (the chubby girl from the Supergirl high school issue) shows up, also infested with phantoms and accuses Supergirl of being mean and stuff :O
Wonder Girl shows up and ropes Supergirl, and makes her admit that she's selfish and wants to kill Superman. Wonder Girl then says that unlike Wonder Woman, her lasso doesn't make ppl tell the truth, and Supergirl admitted to it b/c she feels bad :O
Supergirl tries to find Batman but finds the Batcave locked up. Robin shows up, Supergirl punches him and he comes back to his senses >.>;; He tells Supergirl to find Superman in Metropolis and gives her a device to find him b/c he doesn't look the same nemore. :o
In Metropolis, Superman fights off crazy infected ppl with a suit that looks a lot like what Batman wore in Dark Knight Returns to fight Superman. :o
Superman and Supergirl reunite, and from afar 2 figures watch, a woman and a man. The woman says she's not finished with Supergirl yet until she knows which path she'll choose and refers to the man as "Zor-El" (complete with the quotes). :o
Superman says that Sun went red and then ppl started going crazy. Metropolis is the centre of the insanity and apparently the government has quarantined the East Coast. He put Lois in suspended animation in the Phantom Zone b/c she was going crazy and he wears the funny suit to protect himself from the Phantom's influences. :\
Supergirl admits that she's hear to kill Superman and Superman tells her to kill him :(
Suddenly another Supergirl with the 90s Matrix costume shows up and says that Kara isn't the real Supergirl!
Review: There's a rly good story in here somewhere... :\ The writing is still the Kelly Supergirl, but the art rly saves this book XD You feel like even tho it SOUNDS like the other Supergirl stories, it just doesn't look that bad, and Supergirl (no matter what she's saying) comes off as a much more likeable and conflicted character :)
This is obviously not reality (altho with how inconsistant the DCU is lately, it could very well be reality XD) and something that's going on in Supergirl's mind :O I wonder how much of the series was set in her mind? :o Sadly Teen Titans mentions Batgirl fighting Supergirl so I guess she didn't dream THAT up :(
Still, it'd be nice if most of the rly crappy stories were just weird dreams that Supergirl had meant to test her. :o
The story was also rly meta XD
For example, Sarah said:
"You made a speech about being yourself. It was a pretty speech... and then you flew away. I'm myself all the time, and no one likes it.. But I can't fly away. I tried. I tried to open my body and fly out of it."
Altho she was referring to the cuts on her hands, implying suicide... >.>;;;
But she's also saying something I said earlier about that particular storyline, which was that Supergirl flying away isn't helpful AT ALL!
The rest of us can't fly away :( It's easy for her to say "be yourself" and the she flies off and is pretty blonde Supergirl. The rest of us can't do that... so... what type of example is that!? :(
And Wonder Girl making Supergirl admit that she's selfish and using Boomer b/c she likes the attention, etc... also meta. :o
It's like Kelly's finally acknowledging all the fan complaints about his series xD
The Superman stuff was very sad tho :( Esp how difficult it must be for him, and how he's still trying his best to defend the city. :) It's good characterization of Superman :D
The whole issue had a very creepy feel to it that was good. :) It's got the type of feeling that you get from movies where the main character wakes up and suddenly she's alone in the world except for zombies or stuff :o It's very disturbing and eerie but also interesting :)
However, the dialogue in general wasn't that good and it's still too focussed on Supergirl talking about how screwed up her life is and stuff :(
I'm curious who this new Supergirl is? Maybe she's the good side of Supergirl and they merge at the end? :o
I dunno, I just hope that the conclusion to this plotline will be that a lot of the bad stories are wiped out and Supergirl becomes a good person that is likeable and relatable :D
Btw, the art is great :D Garza draws a great Robin as well XD
Angelwings Rating: 2.5 phantoms out of 5 suited Supermen
Recommendation: This issue doesn't rly add much, but if you're a fan of Garza's artwork, it's worth checking out :)

Countdown - #50 Review
Countdown - #50

Synopsis: Jimmy Olson is in New York while Superman is talking to him via his signal watch. Superman directs him to a warehouse where Jason Todd is fighting Ninjas. >.>;;
Jimmy talks to Jason about the death of Duela but Jason doesn't tell him much except to talk to the Joker. >.>;;
Mary Marvel is at Madame Xanadu's looking for answers to where Freddy Freeman is, but gets none. :o Xanadu tells her that her destiny is unclear but that it's made up of dark and light. :o Before Mary leaves, she's told that if she's lost in the wilderness she should find a guide.
We get a 4 page recap of the Batman/Karate Kid fight from JLA >.>;;
The Rogues are in a rotting apartment snorting coke with hookers o_O;;; Mirror Master shows up and snorts some coke too >.>;;; Then he accuses Trickster and Piper of being traitors. Piper doesn't like this and they fight a little before Trickster breaks it up. :o Heat Wave says that they dun trust Piper and Trickster and that's why they're going to be tested.
In Arkham, Jimmy talks to Joker who says random things to confuse him, but then says that Jimmy can't see the BIG PICTURE. :o Joker says that something's not quite right with the world but nobody can see it. He finishes by saying he never had a daughter o_o;;
Jimmy leaves assuming Joker is just babbling while Killer Croc is being lead past him. Croc breaks free and attacks Jimmy who is unaware of what's going on behind him and is calling Lois on his cell phone O_O;;
Review: >.>;; I have a few questions now. :\
Does everybody know that Jason Todd was Robin and that's he's the Red Hood? Cuz it seems like a lot of ppl do, and if that's true, how haven't they linked him to Bruce Wayne and Batman then!? :O
And how does Jimmy Olson know that the first Robin was Dick Grayson? How can you NOT know who Batman is if you have those 2 pieces of information!? :\ I rly dun like how currently, it seems that Batman's identity is known to lots and lots of ppl but Superman's is a super sekrit. :(
And it's very irresponsible for Superman to be able to find Jason Todd (who is both a criminal and a murderer) and NOT apprehend him. Or tell Batman or the police. Instead he just floats in space and tells Jimmy where to go. >.<;;
Jason is fighting ppl and presumably he might have killed several of them (tho he didn't, I think). If Superman is watching and not stopping him, that's... against how Superman would normally act! For that matter, why are the heroes apparently treating Jason like he's an okay guy now? He's KILLING people. Not just in self defence either. Like WW3 clearly showed him killing some thieves and taking their money for himself. He's a murderer AND a thief! And that's okay for the heroes? :\ They seem to have such a big problem with some heroes killing but not others o_o;;
I find this very annoying :(
Did Madame Xanadu rly have to refer to Freddy Freeman as a "cripple"? It was unnecessary to what she was saying and was a bit jarring to me. :\ My best friend is in a wheelchair and can't walk, so maybe I'm a little sensitive to it b/c he's faced a lot of harrassment and just general insensitivity by ppl who dismiss him as a "cripple". :\ Or bring it up even when it's not important.
Villains snorting coke! I was very surprised to see this :( I understand that they're villains, but I seeing them actually taking drugs like that >.>;; Comics certainly aren't for kids now! XDDD
The problem I have with Countdown right now is how inaccessible it is. There's no introduction to the characters, or slow build to tell us who they are and why we should care (like 52). Instead it's just like "here are Flash's villains, now care about them". I dun even KNOW who Heat Wave is! I'm just like o_O;; Esp when they talk about stuff related to the past, I have no idea what they're talking about :\
I dunno why we needed 4 pages of JLA in the book :| Is Countdown going to force us to read other books to know what's going on now? I think the one thing I rly liked about 52 is how you could read it on it's own and not rly care about the rest of the DCU. This made it very easy to recommend and also to read :) You enjoyed it on it's own merits. But Countdown seems to require us to have extensive knowledge of the DCU and its current plotlines. :(
Jimmy can't hear Killer Croc roar from behind him and attack him? XD
The Joker apparently knows about the Multiverse o_o;;;
I think Countdown would have been more fun as the "next big weekly event" if they did something neat like tell the story backwards (since it's counting down from 51 to 0) :D And the first issue was actually the last issue. :3
That would be cute XD And neat!
I think I might be suffering from "event fatigue" like a lot of other readers are :\ We just finished Infinite Crisis last year and 52 a few weeks ago, and started Amazons Attack. Do we rly need Countdown and it's billions of tie-ins too? :(
*sighs*
52 cost $130 in it's full run. Countdown is gonna cost that PLUS 26 dollars more (since it's half a dollar more expensive). :(
At LEAST DC could keep it at the discount 52 price.
But that's the thing. Countdown seems to exist simply b/c 52 was such a success. It's not here cuz it was a natural progression of a storyline or nething. It's just "52 worked, let's do it again, even tho we dun have a story planned for it". :(
I'm gonna give it a few more issues to prove itself :D But right now I'm a little dissapointed :(
Angelwings Rating: 1.5 out of 5 Jimmy Olsons
Recommendation: I rly dunno if it's worth it yet :\

But that's the thing. Countdown seems to exist simply b/c 52 was such a success. It's not here cuz it was a natural progression of a storyline or nething. It's just "52 worked, let's do it again, even tho we dun have a story planned for it". :(
I'm gonna give it a few more issues to prove itself :D But right now I'm a little dissapointed :(
Angelwings Rating: 1.5 out of 5 Jimmy Olsons
Recommendation: I rly dunno if it's worth it yet :\
Week of May 14 Super Short Reviews :)
:(
I've had such a rough week!
I was cleaning my room and I found worms in certain areas :( I think it's cuz my cat's food is in my room. :\ Neways there were quite a few hiding in the carpets and it took me a while to clean them out!!!!
And my computer also was having a lot of problems :(
Also my ears are super stuffed up cuz of eardrops to get rid of wax :\ And I had a tetanus/diphtheria/whooping cough shot, and now I'm a bit sick cuz of it >.<;; I haven't had a lot of sleep lately cuz of stuff going on... so I feel so dead :(
However, I just woke up from some sleep so I feel better :D
Neways, that's why I didn't post yesterday XD
I'm sorry for not putting lots of reviews up :( I'll put more this week I promise! :D
Kk... so yesterday was an active week for comics :o
I got:
Action Comics - #849
Batman - #665
Catwoman - #67
Checkmate - #14
Countdown - #50
Justice League of America- #9
The Mighty Avengers - #3
Supergirl - #17
There's actually something missing there. :D Can you guess what it is? XD
All-Star Batman and Robin!!!
Yus, it finally came out XD But I decided not to get it cuz honestly, Frank Miller doesn't deserve to be rewarded for his inability to get a single issue out in like a year XD
From IGN's review, it looks like I was right to avoid it XDD It sounds rly bad and more of the stuff that Frank's been doing since The Dark Knight Strikes Again :\
I was actually kinda dissapointed by many of the comics :( To the point that I was worried I was becoming the negative person that I was trying to avoid when I started these reviews! :( But I dun think I am XD Mostly this is b/c I dun like Countdown so far.. but it seems like it's not just me XD I feel bad cuz I liked 52 so much and I like Paul Dini, so I worry that I SHOULD like Countdown but I dun :\
But I can only like what I like right? :]
:O
Reading more reviews of ASB&R makes me want to get it cuz it sounds SOOOOO BAD!
But... I dun want to encourage DC :( Also.. I rly can't justify buying a book that comes out once a year >.>;;
Blah :( All this internet anger is making me sad ;-;
NEWAYS
So here are my super short reviews :D
Action Comics - #849 - This issue is pretty good actually :D We learn more about Superman's religious beliefs, and I think that Nicieza does a good job in walking thru the mindfield that is religious beliefs :o And Superman comes out looking quite good too :) But to ppl who might be religious, this issue could be a little insulting since it has a bit of a heavy handed message. >.>;; 3.5/5
Batman - #665 - This is like DKR all over again :\ The non stop angry similes are everywhere, and.. the writing is just not that good :( The STORY is interesting, just not.... how it's being told :( 2/5
Catwoman - #67 - Lots of ppl die and more icky grossness is shown :( Other than that it's kinda very generic with superheroes vs supervillains who kill ppl. :| I'm a little tired of every plot now being "villains find out that Selina has a daughter and goes to threaten her." :\ Srsly, is that gonna be every plot from now on since she gave birth? :( 2/5
Checkmate - #14 - The first 2 issues of this arc weren't very good, but this one rly picks it up :D I enjoy the characterization, esp between Nightwing and Sasha :D A lot of the dialogue is very sharp and hilarious at times :3 A pleasent surprise :) 4/5
Countdown - #50 - I wonder how many issues until we're allowed to say that Countdown is bad :( I'll give it a few more, but it still doesn't impress :( It doesn't make us care about minor characters like 52 and it's INCREDIBLY inaccessible. If you didn't know a lot about the DCU, you'd be totally lost. Completely so :( Also, it's still providing inconsistant characterization and raising questions about the continuity of the DCU. :\ 1.5/5
Justice League of America- #9 - I rly dun like Meltzer's writing style or his characterization of the Justice League characters :( But I think it's Benes' artwork that helps to make me not like the characters :( Neways... I dun rly like this issue that much, but the plot is still kinda interesting :) 2/5
The Mighty Avengers - #3 - The thought bubbles are now becoming a little irritating since they seem to pop up at the oddest moments xD However, I enjoy the story a lot and esp how the characters interact and talk to each other :D And seeing the Sentry step up past his own mental issues was great :D Yay! 3/5
Supergirl - #17 - Have you ever wondered what would happen if Supergirl took drugs? XD This issue reads a lot like a world Supergirl would come up with if she were on drugs :\ It's sorta interesting, but also... annoying? XD It's also kinda meta, like Kelly is taking all of the complaints about Supergirl from readers and expressing them in the comics. :o I'm not sure if this is good or bad xD It depends on what comes OF it I guess? XD Ale Garza's art is SPECTACULAR however and totally saves the story :) Honestly, the art helps SO much, if this was Churchill, I would say that this book was horrible and Supergirl comes off horribly (Kelly still can't write her), but Garza doesn't just draw Supergirl not as thin as Churchill, but also embues her with a likeability, where we can actually see more than "selfish angry girl" in her :) 2.5/5
Neways :D
Blah... I feel awful right now :(
I'm gonna eat, shower, play some City of Heroes and come back to do some longer reviews :)

Spider-Man 3 super short review :)
Meow meow :D
I watched Spider-Man 3 today with my sister! :D
Unfortunately, I didn't rly like it :(
I didn't hate it hate it like my sister did, but it had a lot of problems that just stopped me from rly enjoying the film :(
My super short non-spoiler review is this:
Too many chefs spoil the broth and too many villains spoil a movie (as Batman and Robin proved). :\ There's three rly good movies in Spider-Man 3, unfortunately they're all crammed into one movie. :( There's very little character development done b/c there's no time to do it and so we get hints at deeper motivations and personalities for several characters, but then they're ignored for a fight or for arbitrary drama leading to nowhere. :( Worse yet, unlike the last 2 movies, you rly need to know something about Spider-Man before going into this one, or you'll be scratching your head in many scenes, esp the ones involving Venom :(
That's not to say that there weren't good parts. There were lots of parts (particularly at the beginning and early middle) where the movie rly showed a lot of potential and had some great character moments, esp involving MJ and Harry. :D It's no sekrit I never rly liked MJ, esp in the first 2 movies where she spent most of her time crying and screaming and begging, but I DID like her in this movie. :3
However Spiderman is a different story... >.>;;
Even without the symbiote, Peter acts like Nightwing :\ In my sister's words (as she described Nightwing earlier and Peter today), he's "unwise". XD And he is. He makes poor decisions, and inexplicable ones, simply to cause drama. Which is sorta the problem. The plot lurches b/c there's 3 villains, and way too many plot points to hit and not enuf time to do it. So the movie jumps, and characters have to cause their own problems in order for us to have drama. :(
Several characters seem unnecessary too, and you wonder why they're there at all :\ Honestly, the movie could have been about Sandman OR Harry Osbourne OR Venom, and it would have been spectacular :D Just take the one main plot and the one subplot involving one of the villains, and focus on that and the movie would have been rly rly rly great. :DD
But at the end, it seems like, nothing's rly resolved, most of this is all Peter's fault, MJ should never talk to him again, and... we feel like the film is still missing a half hour :(
There's some rly rly great scenes, but they get buried amidst the chaos of having to run 3 plots and 3 sub plots all at once together while trying to pack in fights, drama, romance, love triangles and flashbacks into 2.5 hours :(
*shakes head*
And I'm not trying to be negative either :( After the bad reviews I kept reading, I rly rly wanted to like this film. :\
Angelwings Rating: 2.5 out of 5 Nightwings disguised as Spiderman
:(
*sighs*
Fantastic Four 2 looks kinda cool tho! :D And I'm looking forward to Ironman and the new Batman movie! :D
I hope the future Spider-Man movies focus only one 1 or 2 villains (depending on the villain) from now on tho :3 I personally want to see the Lizard or Mysterio for the next one :D I've always liked Mysterio and he's interesting enuf to rly confound and confuse Spider-Man for a whole movie :)
