Week of December 19, 2007 Super Short Reviews :o

Mew mew! :D

This is me not sleeping >_>;; Holidays are bad to me xD

So I got many comics this week but none were rly the "big" comics as I view them. xD Catwoman may be being dropped again as she's going into Salvation Run and I need to save money. >_>

Kk neways this is what I got:

Birds of Prey - #113
Catwoman - #74
Checkmate - #21
Countdown Presents: The Search for Ray Palmer: Superwoman/Batwoman - #1 (One Shot)
Detective Comics - #839
Superman - #671

:o That Countdown title needs to be WAYYYY shorter >:| From now on it's "Countdown: Reverseverse" xDDD

Opay, so here are the super short reviews :D

Birds of Prey - #113 - Good! But sad :O And crazy! I thought something else happened at the end but mebbe it did. I get the feeling that what we thought happened, didn't actually happen. xD Superman is in King Superman Jerkface mode again >.> What's funny tho is that something happened similar to what sparked Marvel's Civil War but registration's not on the table here xDDDD But this is the DCU after all XD The way they reached the end tho felt very rushed and very contrived (and a tad unbelievable to me) which is why I suspect there's more going on. :D For now tho... 3/5 :]

Catwoman - #74 - Nothing much happened here. :\ A new villain was introduced and... Catwoman is going off to Salvation Run. :\ There seemed to be no point except to quickly put Selina in the personality and appearance that the writers for Salvation Run want her to be in. >.> 1/5

Checkmate - #21 - I rly liked this issue b/c it explores the history and background of one of the supporting characters that we rly dunno much about at all :D There's a bit of a gender reversal thing going on too that I find neat b/c they play it off realistically without seeming like they're going "hay look how smart and edgy I am" but without hurting the character either. :) Now that the set up to Salvation Run is finally over, Checkmate seems to be getting back into the swing of things and I luff htat :D I can't wait for the next part :) 4/5

Countdown: Reverseverse - #1 (One Shot) - I rly enjoyed this story :D Lots! xD It was rly fun to watch the heroes with their personalities intact (for the most part xD) but just genders reversed. :D It was neat to see costumes on female heroes that were designed to look primarily cool like male costumes (cuz they ARE the male costumes) rather than for men to gawk at. xDD On the downside, the art is incredibly inconsistant (b/c of many artists working on the book) and some of the art is just plain awful. :( Still, I rly liked it :D 4/5

Detective Comics - #839 - Another Bat family crossover fails to live up to the potential of the set up. :\ I'm extremely dissapointed in this story since it was a big fight but ultimately the status quo was completely reinstated and ppl act out of character just to keep the status quo enforced. :\ Also there's a MAJOR deus ex machina to "Save us" from something cool actually happening for once! >:O It's silly and dumb. It's bad enuf to fake a "dramatic turning point" as a cliffhanger between issues, it's even worse to do it IN an issue >:O 1.5/5

Superman - #671 - This was a weird story. :o Given that we're finally done with Camelot Falls, it's kinda nice to have a break where Superman punches giant bugs xD But it's also not that interesting. It just kinda.. is. :\ I dun rly have much to judge until next issue. :( It's sorta meh for me. 2.5/5

Kk so that's it :D

I need to sleep now :(

I'll put up some longer reviews eventually.. xD I'm busy with holiday stuffs as you can imagine :)

Baibais :D

Teh Ami

Edit: Thanks so much to Filby for pointing out that the information going around about how Earth-11 is a paradise is actually incorrect and it was Earth-51 that was being referred to as having no crime. :D Earth-11 still has crime (otherwise why would there be superheroes? :D) and nothing has changed except the genders of the heroes. However, society has not changed, and the leaders are not women, etc. Only the genders of the heroes have been swapped. :D

15 angel hugs! :D:

Apparently in Countdown they say that this world has no crime

Nope, that's Earth-51 (aka Earth-Retired-Heroes) not Earth-11 (Earth-Gender-Flip).

(Word verification: cyuzq. Suzie Q?)

Rly? :o

According to RMM's post Earth-11 had no crime. Did he take things out of context in order to prove a point that didn't exist? :o

He probably didn't read either comic, saw the two panels on scans_daily or something, and mistook them for the same Earth.

i think the holidays are bad for me, too ami. i should not be awake right now, but have been for a couple hours. what's the deal?

i didn't get to the comic shop last week, so your supershort reviews are keeping me up to date.

You know, I'm pretty happy Superman (Even if the characterization was out there) showed up to give Babs the "I'M WATCHING YOU NOW!" speech. This is a sign of further awesome to come, I'm absolutely sure.

My word verification is BAGEL. I get the best verification words at your blog, Ami. That's why I spam you. ;)

However, society has not changed, and the leaders are not women, etc.

Well... Liberty Belle (I think?) is PRESIDENT. But other than that, no. No sign of female domination of society. Unless a female world leader is enough to make you go that way.

Ami Angelwings said...

No, that's Earth-51 again Zhinxy. xD Liberty Belle is president in Earth-51, not Earth-11 which is the Earth I'm talking about. :D

RMM made the mistake of thinking that Earth-51 (no crime, etc) was Earth-11, and I was pointing out that Earth-11 was not about women in power, but just about the superheroes having reversed gender.

I got confused about your confusion as to sombody else's confusion about the confusing earth 51 with the other confusing earth 11 and responded confused!

CONFUSION!!!

Ami Angelwings said...

Countdown's confusingness permeates our souls!!! xDDDD

OH AND YOU SHOULD DO THAT TEN CHARS MEME!!!! :D

Everybody should. :)

Merry early Christmas Zhinxy! :D

Nothing Happens In Countdown And It Is Still Very Hard To Follow: THE COMIX MYSTERY OF OUR TIME!

Merry early Christmas to you too!

I should try that meme out when the holidays calm down a little!

Ami Angelwings said...

I'm trying to get everybody to do it, that includes Scott, RMM, Ragnell, etc... everybody :D It is great and super fun and I want to see who everybody chooses! xD

It will be the meme that unites us all :O

Have a great time, Ami!!

Merry Christmas!

I think Liberty Belle was president on Earth-51 just 'cause she's DC's most prominent "patriotic" hero other than Uncle Sam. Plus the Hillary Clinton comparison is too convenient not to make, IMO.

You know I'd probably like the storyline Checkmate is doing if Rucka hadn't JUST done a very similar one over on Queen & Country...
