Synopsis: In Gotham City, in the ruins of the Kahndaq Consulate, Mary Batson is confronted by Black Adam who is all mad about what happened to his family. :( Mary says that she thinks she was sent here for a reason and that they're the same b/c they're both scared and powerless. However, she says that Black Adam still has his powers and that they make him strong. He starts laughing at this. :O
In Metropolis, Perry White yells at Jimmy Olson for not getting a story out of the Duela Dent murder. :\ Jimmy says there was nothing to get. :| Suddenly there are rays shot from the sky that decimate the city! Jimmy calls for Superman with the signal watch and runs outside. He sees ppl in trouble from falling rubble. :O
Donna and the Titans are at the grave of Duela Dent paying their respects. The other Titans leave and Donna is approached by Jason Todd who tells her about the Monitor and how neither of them should be alive, and how they're both living on borrowed time. o_o
In the JLA satellite, Starman has cryptic coversations with Karate Kid. e_e
Back in Gotham, Black Adam cries after laughing and tells Mary that his powers have cost him a lot. Mary says that they're a gift and she wants them. >.<;;; Black Adam says she asks for death if she wants them. :o
In Metropolis, Jimmy super speeds and saves a bunch of ppl from falling rubble. O_O;;; He has no idea why and is worried about his sudden ability to develop powers.
Jimmy finds a crater and sees the New God Lightray lying in it dying. :o Superman shows up and tells Jimmy to stay with Lightray while he flies off to find the cause of what's going on. Lightray suddenly wakes up and starts muttering "Infinite" (I guess 52 isn't the "cool" word to say nemore XD) and grabs Jimmy's hand. There is a large explosion of light. :O
In the sky, Superman sees a person but he boomtubes away before Superman can catch him >.<;; He returns to see Jimmy come out of the explosion saying that Lightray is dead. :|
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DCU AGAIN! >:|
In Monitorland, the Monitors talk about how after the Flashes found out about the other universes, heroes and villains alike started to cross over to help each other and eventually the JLA and JSA ended up working together as well.
Review: I dun like these "history of the multiverse" bits. :( They're not as informative as the "history of the DCU" bits that were in 52. DC has only been reminding us about the Silver Age and the multiverse for the past 2 years >:|
And they're 4 pages long. :o In a 22 page comic, it's a lot. :(
I dun rly like that they're just taking parts of books (JLA, Titans) and throwing them in without context. :\ The Titans thing fit okay tho. It's more annoying that that part was missing from the Teen Titans this week than nething else rly. :|
I thought Superman has super vision :o Why does he need to get close to the person to see who they are? Once he noticed him in the distance, couldn't he just zoom in and spot who he is? >.>
I dun like how Mary Marvel is suddenly all power hungry. :\ I always thought she and Billy treated it like a gift, not like a drug. She wouldn't be all "OMG I NEED MY SUPERPOWERS BACK AT ALL COSTS! PLEASE BLACK ADAM GIVE ME YOUR POWERS THAT YOU USED TO KILL MILLIONS OF PEOPLE SO I CAN BE JUST LIKE YOU AND WEAR SMEXY BLACK CLOTHES!!!!"
If this is seduction of the innocent, it's not very seductive >.>;;;
She's not being seduced by power, she's just looking for it. :o Black Adam is even warning her and she's like "no no, give me your ebil powers".
Why is Black Adam suddenly back with powers? o_O
And why is he living in Gotham apparently eating ppl or something? XD
For that matter why is the Kahndaq consulate abandoned? Kahndaq should still be going along fine without Black Adam around as leader. They have other leaders right? It's not like the country just vanished. >.>;;
I thought Superman's line at the end where he yells out "What does it mean for the universe when... A GOD DIES!!!???" was hilarious tho XDDD Like.. srsly! Who talks like that? XD I know it's a very comicy way to talk.. esp like.. silver age... but still!
And as Dick Hyacinth put it so well, DC is getting a little annoying with the "The more it resembles the comics of my childhood, the better it is!" thing >:|
I'm just tired of the endless Silver Age references. :( It was cute at first and a little fun, now it's just like. Okay DC, do you have any NEW ideas? :\
Homage is good in small doses placed in a story to get a few winks and nods and laughs from the fans. It's bad if it's suddenly your marketting strategy. >:|
:\
It would be nice if they reminded ppl who Lightray is tho XD I know who he is, but... even then, not so great XD I guess the thing about Countdown is like.. things are happening, nobody knows why, they just are. But hey at least Jimmy Olson has silver age powers and hey look, Lightray! >.>;;
Still, this actually wasn't such a bad book in all :D I kinda enjoyed it for the most part and I'm interested to know what happens to Mary Marvel and Jimmy Olson. :D
Not so much Donna and Jason tho. :\ Oh! And Donna KNOWS about the Monitors! They TALKED to her in 52. So how come she doesn't mention this? :o
>.>;; I miss 52 XD
Angelwings Rating: 3 greedy Mary Marvels out of 5 wise Black Adams o_o
Recommendation: I still dun think I can recommend Countdown as a series, but you might want to check this issue out :)

Who talks like that? Does Zod talk like that? Maybe he was not missing from the Superman books after all, but was disguised as Superman the whole time!
Well, of course, the more it resembles MY childhood, the more awesome it is. That's a given. ;) So when the new All Star Squadron series comes out, i'll be insufferable. ;)
If they want to make it resemble MY childhood more, this would all turn out to be one of Megatron's plots.
Why haven't I heard back from them about that writing job yet?
