Countdown - #44



Synopsis: Mary appears in the Rock of Eternity where she meets Billy who is now all old with white hair. He explains that he's the new Shazam and that Freddy Freeman is becoming the new Captain Marvel. Mary asks where she fits in and Billy says that that's the problem he wanted to discuss with her.

In Washington, Forerunner is approached by Monarch who recruits her to his service and claims that the Monitors are keeping her and her ppl down b/c they're afraid of how powerful they might become in the future.

Jimmy Olson walks around Suicide Slum trying to pick a fight hoping for his powers to manifest again. A guy with an illuminati pendant hits him and his powers dun activate but another guy hits him and it does and he shoots spines at them! :o

In Metropolis, Holly Robinson is taken by a woman in a toga to a woman's shelter that is filled with women in togas and looks very ancient Greek. :\

Piper and Trickster flee police pursuit upset with the fact that altho they didn't kill the Flash, b/c the Flash was killed by the Rogues, they are being held responsible. They decide to lay low before they're caught by the heroes and punished :( Ppl are watching them and decide not to capture them.. yet.

Billy lectures Mary about getting her ebil powers from Black Adam and tells her that she should give up her powers and just live a normal life. She gets mad at him and leaves.

The Monitors recap Crisis on Infinite Earths for us... again >.>;;

IGN is sick of Countdown too apparently! XD And they usually love ALL mega-events >.>;; They're also sick of Amazons Attack XD

It's odd to find that I actually agree with IGN a lot lately :\

Billy is HORRIBLE to his sister! Srsly! She's been searching for him and Freddy b/c they're family to her and he basically says that the only reason he brought her here is cuz he thinks she's ebil. Also he is completely unsympathetic to her situation and feels she should just live with not being a superhero now. LIKE YOU RIGHT BILLY? It's easy for him to say since he didn't lose his powers >:|

And Freddy gets to be the new Captain Marvel, not Mary. She's just the silly girl >.>;;

Black Adam's powers aren't intrinsically ebil tho! Right? :\ From what I understand, Black Adam was corrupted by having so much power, and that's why Shazam chose a child, b/c a child would be less likely to be so corrupted. :) But the powers THEMSELVES are not ebil.

But now they are?

Mary Marvel wears spike lace-up gogo boots now? >.<;;; Right, cuz she's EBIL! I forgot >:|

Jimmy Olson is annoying :\ And also belongs in City of Heroes since he can shoot spines now! XD I wonder if the illuminati symbol means nething? :O Maybe Ironman is behind this!

Holly Robinson looks a lot different than her previous incarnations :(

Even from last issue (which I dun have currently cuz my sister is reading it). :\ She's grown like a foot and become Supergirl >:|

I wasn't even sure at first that that WAS Holly!

This Amazonian inspired women's shelter doesn't inspire hope in me :( Esp with how women's shelters are now portrayed as being sympathetic and helpful to the Amazonian Terrorist Cause in Amazons Attack now. >.>;;

Piper and Trickster are upset that the Flash is dead. Rly? :O He's dead?

Actually I KNOW he's dead b/c I've been reading it on other blogs. But I didn't read the Flash! So I didn't know until I read other blogs that he's dead. I have NO idea how Piper and Trickster were involved. AT ALL. :\

Way to go DC! I'm so glad that you're making sure I can read Countdown without reading other books! >:|

For that matter, who's Monarch? *I* know it's Captain Atom and he was running around in the bleed after blowing up Bludhaven. Do OTHER readers know this? >.>;;

For that matter why is he referring to himself as Monarch now? B/c he woke up in that Monarch suit? XD And why is he suddenly all mysterious instead of hero-y?

For that matter... why is he back!? >:|

Was there RLY a huge clamoring to bring back MONARCH!?

Did Didio just finish reading Armageddon 2001 and think it was brilliant and needs to be rehashed?

I can't believe there are 44 more issues to go =_=;;

And now DC is planning ANOTHER year-long weekly series now! Just for THAT, I'm thinking of completely dropping this book off my radar just b/c if Countdown turns out to be a bust, DC might decide not to milk us with another crappy weekly series! >:|

This issue was another lacklustre outing that barely advanced any plots. :( Also, unlike 52, we dun care about these characters at all. It seems like ppl are just acting illogically now just b/c they have to for the story to continue. :(

I kinda like Mary Marvel tho. At least in that she told Billy off! XD Except we all know she's gonna be shown to be in the wrong and turn ebil and I bet die. :\ *sighs sadly*
