Hi! :D
Yub yub, it's Wednesday again! :]
So today I bought many many comics. :O I considered hopping on the JSA bandwagon but I'm not sure yet mainly cuz I dunno if I want to add another book to my pull list even if it's rly good :\ Esp since after Civil War #7, I may start reading Marvel books again. :o
Neways here's what I got today :)
52 - #42
The Brave and the Bold - #1
Birds of Prey - #103
Catwoman - #64
Civil War - #7 (of 7)
Ion - #11 (of 12)
Robin - #159
Superman - #659
Welcome to Tranquility - #3
Wonder Woman - #4
Surprisingly, the comics were pretty good today :o Esp Civil War, I didn't expect a reasonable ending from such an unreasonable storyline XD
Neways, here are the super short reviews :D
52 - #42 - GO RALPH! I'm glad 52 is renewing our faith in the characters that they "ruined" earlier (Booster being a jerk, Natasha being bratty, etc) A lot of GREAT reveals in this issue, and it's very fitting that it would unfold like the solution to a mystery novel, b/c it's Ralph. :) I rly enjoyed this issue. :] 4.5/5
The Brave and the Bold - #1 - I'm actually more curious about what issue #2 will be since it has SUPERGIRL teaming up with Hal Jordan XD Waid is writing this book so are we getting the nice Supergirl from his Legion of Superheroes series, or are we getting Kelly's Supergirl? :o I can't see Supergirl possibly teaming up with NEBODY, so I'm hoping we get the nice Supergirl :) The story itself is interesting and netime Batman gets to team up with another hero is a fun story :) 3.5/5
Birds of Prey - #103 - A relatively weak plot is held together by great dialogue, writing and character moments. :) I'm rly not liking the Spysmasher stuff, but the writing is fun and I like the interplay of the characters :] 3.5/5
Catwoman - #64 - I'm still not rly liking this current Catwoman plot. :\ It's confusing and seemingly pointless. This issue was a whole lot of nothing. :( 1.5/5
Civil War - #7 (of 7) - This issue in no way makes up for the last 6 issues of bad characterization, and I can't believe it took Captain America 6 issues to figure out what we knew from issue 1 (that fighting for the sake of fighting is pointless) but at least the ending was logical and I'm glad that they actually MADE changes to the Marvel U. It isn't the cop out ending I feared, and I kinda like the direction they went in. I'll be giving Marvel a second chance after this! :) 3/5
Ion - #11 (of 12) - Ion is a lot of fun, and I rly like Kyle Rayner's character :) Having Donna Troy show up in this issue is also great :D Also, Guy Gardner and Kilowog make guest appearances too! You can't not enjoy having those two in a book :D Also, more light is shed on these new Monitors :O 4/5
Robin - #159 - It's an okay story. I think Batman acts out of character whenever he's in a Robin book. :\ I like his new love interest, I just fear she's gonna end up dead or something. :( It's a sad state of affairs when we're so cynical about female love interests suddenly being introduced in comics. The story was okay, but nothing amazing. 2/5
Superman - #659 - EXCELLENT story. A nice simple story about why Superman is so important to us. This is the type of Superman story that I was hoping for my revamp of Supergirl, bringing the idea of Superman back to it's core: that he's a person that inspires goodness in others. :) I rly liked it! 5/5
Welcome to Tranquility - #3 - This issue didn't rly grab me until the last few pages which were stellar. :D Great reveals, great issues raised, but the ending is sorta sad. :( I hope that it's not as sad as it seems. :| 4/5
Wonder Woman - #4 - The book my sister dubbed "the worst series of 2006" is not getting better. :\ This issue is a mess of convoluted reveals, bad dialogue, and untapped potential. :( Just as I feared, the issues that Circe raised in the last book are not rly addressed and the whole "villain kills and is evil" thing is just thrown on to ignore the fact that she made some good points. The one good thing about this book is that Power Girl's "boob window" is the smallest I've seen in recent memory XDDD 1.5/5
Neways so that's it. :) Some good stories, some bad stories and some GREAT stories this week. :D I try to keep my reviews inside the 2-4 range so that I have room for the rly great and the rly bad stories. :]
*hugs all*
I'll be putting up the big reviews soon! :D
Oh, and if you've noticed, I sometimes dun get to ALL the comics in a week, so if there's a comic this week that I've bought that you rly want to see reviewed, tell me and I'll put it on my priority list :D
Take care! :D

Awesome, someone who actually agrees that this is an intriguing direction for Marvel to go into! I think there will be some amazing stories to come out of this, and I can't wait.
Wonder Woman was a total letdown to me, too, and I'm almost kind of glad they're starting straight away with Jodi Picoult's run instead of finishing this arc. I was giving it a chance, but I finally decided here that what I thought might be healthy-looking women was just well-disguised cheesecake under, albeit, tasteful clothing. The story didn't hold up at all, and it just feels like a stereotypical Hollywood action flick at this point. How sad!
As for Brave and the Bold, I was actually pretty disappointed with both the art and characterization. It SHOULD have been a great chance to have these characters play as foils for each other personality-wise, but instead we get a very well-greased retro story where you can't tell the teaming up heroes apart from one another outside of their powers and clothing. Somebody should tell Bruce Wayne that successful modern playboys PROBABLY don't wear their hair combed over like that, too. I'll get a few more issues, but I'm not too excited about it anymore.
I do agree completely about Birds of Prey, though. This story arc felt very padded, and I'm glad it's finally over. Gail promised a rotating cast, but with stories this long and with the same players showing up next arc, it looks like it'll be a year before we actually see a changing of the guard. The characterization was spot-on, though, especially for Babs. I wish we would have learned something, ANYTHING about Judomaster, though...Why should we care about her?
Pretty good week overall. Enjoyed your reviews as always, Ami!
