Supergirl #13 Review

Supergirl - #13

Synopsis: Supergirl wakes up in Star Labs after having a nightmare about her dad doing some vague evil thing. Lois then comes in and yells at Supergirl for being Supergirl (i.e. immature, reckless and insane) and how much Superman cares about her and how she's hurting him by not talking to him. Supergirl brushes her off and then Powerboy shows up and the two of them go out on patrol and stop a hurricane in Mexico, but get yelled at by a police officer. o.O

In the mountains of Tibet, some mysterious person tells another mysterious person that they have to kill Supergirl so they send other mysterious people after her! Why? Who cares!

Hey, I didn't write this! XDDD

Back in her apartment, Supergirl is having a conversation with herself about how hot Powerboy is. Oh wait.. that's Wondergirl. So Wondergirl bugs Supergirl for details but Supergirl doesn't reveal ne. Then Powerboy shows up and he and Supergirl go out again. Conveniently, as Powerboy is about to explain his origins, Supergirl claims not to care, so we never get to hear how this impossible-by-current-continuity character came to be.

Supergirl flashes back to various points in the past year where she tried to kill Clark while he was sick. >.>;;

And then they get attacked by Earthquake from Samurai Spirits and some ninja girl with white hair! :O OMG IT'S AN SNK/DC CROSSOVER!!!! Earthquake guy apparently has the power to feed on ppl's hate and ninja girl can turn ppl into ghosts.. or something...

>.>;;;

Ninja girl turns Powerboy into a ghost and defeats him (!???). Earthquake beats Supergirl up by feeding on her hate. However, she does some sort of sonic scream and Earthquake says she has too much hate even for him! And she defeats both of them. o_O

Powerboy asks if he gets a second date, and Supergirl makes out with him.

Back at Starlab, Capt Boomerang shows up to see if Grace is okay. She's in several casts and tells him he has to take care of her now b/c it's his fault that they brought Supergirl into the outsiders in the first place. Boomer asks when Kara's getting out, and Grace says that she left 3 days ago and never told Boomer.

Review: You know, I gave this book a 2 b/c for some reason I thought it wasn't THAT bad. And then I read it again, and while writing this synopsis I realized it's pretty bad!

I'm amused b/c The Superman Homepage gave this book a 1 and I gave it a 2. And normally they're the ones who give Supergirl a free pass. Even after complaining about the book, they'll still give it a 3 while I hand out the 1s XD

I guess we've finally found the amount of bad issues and similarly drawn faces it takes for the crappiness of a book to outweight a hot blonde lead girl. XDDD

Like srsly, every issue is the same: Supergirl whines about how nobody understands her, she flashbacks to some crazy thing her dad said/did to her and then about how she has to kill Superman. And does she TELL Superman this? NOOOOOO.

And she has too much hate for even a hate absorbing villain to take? XD This is a HERO!?

Well, I guess, she isn't... >.>;;; It's a bit easier to take if you look at it like you're reading a story about a villain. And now she hurt Capt Boomerang! Awesome! I rly think this is Joe Kelly's adolescent issues coming out or something. Like "yah that cool guy in school that got the hot blonde girl, well I'll have him get two-timed and dumped! AWESOME!!! TAKE THAT TERRANCE!!!!"

*headdesk*

Also, we have mysterious Tibetan villains who just kinda.. showed up... and we dunno (and dun care) who they are, send out 2 new villains who we also dun rly care about, to get beaten up. And they have vague powers that can conveniently take Powerboy out of the equation.

And Supergirl kisses Powerboy for no reason! Well, she's a teenage girl, and we all know teenage girls just kiss ALL guys they're around right? :P

You know what I dun get? Ppl's defence of Supergirl is that she's a regular teenage girl. But.. she's from KRYPTON. You know that place where ppl worship science and whatever? XD She should act like a regular teenage KRYPTONIAN girl. Not an Earth girl! I think ppl just think all teenage girls act the same :P

And we never do find out who Powerboy is or where he came from. Is he related to Powergirl? If so, how is that possible (given that she's from Earth-2), if not, why does Powergirl allow him to use the name and the outfit?

This is srsly to give Kara a boy to bang.

>:O

Ian Churchill's back once more to give us more of the same-faced girls. >.>;; Lois looks like Supergirl who looks like Wondergirl. *sigh* Actually, in the scene where Supergirl and Wondergirl are talking in the apartment, there's a panel where we only see Wondergirl's face and not her clothes and I actually thought that was Supergirl! :O THEY LOOK THE SAME!

I HATE Churchill's art! The girls are STICK thin, incredibly bony, and the only differences between them are their hair and breast size. Is that honestly the only differences he sees in women? You know what, I bet it is!

I was telling my friend that actually, Churchill is perfect for DC's portrayal of teenage women. B/c it seems like they think they're all exactly the same except for hair and breast sizes! That's the only thing that differentiates one girl from another according to what I'm reading in Teen Titans and Supergirl! >:O

*flails*

Whatever. It ends the arc. Next we get to see Supergirl fight Batgirl, another teenage girl character that has been ruined as of late. :| I remember when Supergirl and Batgirl were actually strong, capable characters >:O

But at least the narrative isn't broken in this book. And it gives us some closure to the Supergirl/Boomerang thing. >.>;; It's not as bad as the last 2 issues, but it's still nowhere near enjoyable.

I'm hoping that this book is finally getting bad enuf that even the horny male fanboys who are like "OMGKARASOHOTWANNABANGHER" will tune out, and Didio will cancel it.

Mark Waid's Supergirl FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

XD

Angelwings Rating: 2/5
Recommendation: No. Just... No.

I question something. How anyone can complain about how a female character is drawn, but not do the same about the male. Yeah cause every guy, that isn't a villain, is tall, handsome, and muscular.
